  1. Gutted for everyone concerned. Probably bought more from there with the exception of Rails (which is my local). First ever purchase I remember vividly was the Bachmann Class 166 which I believe has never been re-released since. Got it for £70-what a bargain. Whenever that unit gets run from now on, it will have a bit more meaning. Also really liked the Product Database and was able to discover many interesting items that would otherwise have passed me by. One quick anecdote was a chat I had with staff member Ian when I went in to pick up an Oxford Beer Truck a few years back. I explained I owned a pub so had to purchase the model. Ian was well impressed until I explained that the pub I owned was the Skaledale Mason's Arms!! Probably one you had to be there for but his reaction was priceless. I wish them all the very best.....
  2. Does anybody offer a service of fitting head/tail lights to locomotives and other stock? Or do you know of anyone who does this to a high quality standard? I've got a couple of Lima & Hornby Locos' which I'd really like to have upgraded but don't have the necessary skills, patience or confidence to risk butchering the model myself. Would be ideal in the Yorkshire/East Midlands area but would consider further afield if required. PM me if preferred regarding services offered and costs. Thanks in advance. Mods please move this topic if there is one open (I couldn't find anything specific regarding this)
  3. Very much admire your honesty and professionalism on this difficult decision you have taken. However, provided the issue was not related to the running of the wagon I for one would definitely have been interested in buying some at a reduced price if the issue was clearly stated. Particularly if you have lost out financially by scrapping the models completely. A bit like what Hatton's did with the Class 66. Was this considered?
  4. Spoken to Hornby regarding the Class 803 destination panels and they have confirmed that they will be present on the final model. They are not illustrated in the mock up pic. Whether the destinations will be correct of course is an entirely different matter.........
  5. Agree with a few earlier comments that if the handbrake wheel end is at the front connected to the locomotive then there is no major problem if you don't want to do any adjustments. The last wagon has to be the other way due to the tail light (which is an ingenious bit of kit) and doesn't affect performance except for maybe a slight slowing down due to torque but that looks quite realistic in a way. I have a small train of 4 but some of the most horrific curve design in layout history so can't comment on longer rakes.
  6. Advice required please. Novice transfer person here...... I recently applied a railtec transfer to my Hornby Colas Class 60. Idiotically I used Humbrol Gloss Enamel instead of Clear Gloss which of course is a treacle colour. I wrongly assumed it would dry clear. The transfer has gone on lovely but has discoloured. Is there any way I can remove the transfer AND the gloss area underneath without damaging the paintwork of the loco underneath that. I haven't sprayed with matt varnish yet as to further avoid any cock ups! Obviously I'd have to then re-order the transfer and reapply. If this is too difficult, I can get away with imagining the sun has faded the livery as it doesn't look disastrous from a distance. Any help experts out there can impart would be greatly received. Thanks
  7. Hello everyone. Finally found my next son.......
  8. So sorry to hear of your loss Colin. I'm just over a year on now and it still cuts very deep. Hopefully be a little reassured that Monty will be deeply embedded in your hearts forever. Its the final thing they do for us. Just not fair that they don't live as long as we do......
  9. So it looks like Hatton's have missed out on The Champion's League then...
  10. OK, I'll bite. I wasn't going to comment on this post due to being too apoplectic. I lost my dog last year and he meant more to me than any human ever will. To see him described here as "an unnecessary luxury" boils my **** and unfortunately I will not be able to use the vocabulary I'd wish to out of respect for this forum. I hope to find his brother soon and will now have to prepare to defend him, not only against the sick dog thief scum, but also against this ridiculous narrative. Crazed woke behaviour and virtue signalling will destroy this planet far sooner than manmade pollution, global warming and climate change ever will.
  11. Maybe Dapol can get their Class 59s out to coincide with the resolution of this debacle. Remember reading that the 59 and these wagons were planned to arrive concurrently anyway...
  12. Ben, will these be available via retailers as the N gauge were or are they solely direct from Revolution?
  13. I think the crisis in the Suez has put an end to seeing these and many other items this year. Hope my pessimism is vastly misplaced and I'm totally proved wrong but unless the airfreight companies take advantage of the situation I can't see it..
  14. Simon, did they ever run in mixed rakes or were all the old livery hoppers replaced by the newer versions?
  15. Did the Yeoman 59 ever run with the newer "striped" livery O&K JHA Wagons or vice versa? I understand Dapol are doing both livery of wagons which suggests that they will also consider the newer livered Class 59 in a future run.
  16. I have a lot of sympathy with this topic. I generally lose interest around autumn time through to Christmas for some reason. Maybe its because I associated the model railway as a kid around the summer holidays and then wish listing for Christmas. I also suffered a couple of bereavements last year which obviously affected all things railway related. However, as the old adage goes keeping busy helps so I have recently done a few small things like clean track, made some telegraph poles and ordered one or two items. My advice is to not force anything. If you're not in the mood or have lost interest leave it for as long as you need. The layout & models will still be there in a few weeks or months time.
  17. Thanks for all your responses. Very heartened to hear your viewpoints. The experiences and advice you have described have reaffirmed the way I'm thinking so that's a real positive. I've been working on the fact that getting another actually honours the previous dog's memory rather than being seen as a replacement and to allow for something good to develop. I take the point about rescues and very much admire those that go down this route, but for me personally, I would want to go for the puppy even though I am well aware of the challenges!! Dad's doing OK at the moment and I agree I think it would benefit him too. I feel I have enough support from friends and family in the event that things change in that regard. I have made an enquiry and a litter may be available for January. Alternatively there is the possibility of a further litter in March for availability in May (different mother). Ideally May would work better giving more breathing space, kinder weather and hopefully we will be further through the pandemic situation but maybe visiting the first litter will make that decision clearer. I mainly factor costs in as my boy had so many health issues towards the end of his life however I was fortunate to have had an excellent insurance policy. The only other immediate threat to the savings will be from Accurascale!! Finally on a personal note White Rabbit as a fellow Yorkshireman, I understand your anguish and sincerely hope both your parents make a speedy & successful recovery. Sending best wishes for more positive news soon.
  18. Looking for some advice from all you dog lovers out there. As I had previously posted, I lost my Beagle in June which was probably the worst experience I have ever faced. He was my first dog and obviously most people on here have been through this painful experience. I initially wanted to get this catastrophic year out the way as I also lost my Mum 4 weeks after my dog and had to give up my job to care for her, so throw in the Covid nightmare and things couldn't have been any worse. My thought process was to start tentatively looking into the possibility of a new addition in springtime next year. Hopefully the weather will be better for training, socialisation etc then and I may also be further down the road to recovery. My friend has informed me that her contact has just had a litter and merely wanted to let me know. Personally, I still feel its too soon but is there ever a 'right' time to move on or come to terms with everything? I also care for my Dad at the moment, who is doing OK but needs my support. So just weighing everything up emotionally and financially. If anyone out there can advise, share their similar experiences or reassure that you can move forward with another dog I would be humbled to draw on those opinions. Many thanks
  19. The BBA's are absolutely superb. Just for clarification, Rails have actually received the BBA versions which were sold out on pre-order. The BLA's have not arrived yet but are expected shortly (info as of yesterday). The website is showing them as in stock.
  20. Received my 4 today. Biffa/Cemex/One/Freightliner. All run perfectly in both directions (20+mins), no derailments, bits falling off etc. Very slight wobble but we know why that is and its not bothering me. The Freightliner orange is clearly too light but much deeper than the photos on the website show. I can live with it. It appears that Hatton's and Bachmann have both got their shade of orange the wrong way round for the respective loco numbers. Stand to be corrected. Clearly there is still a QC issue as others have pointed out but just wanted to add balance. Maybe I got lucky.....
  21. Heartbreaking for you Gordon S and I feel your loss. I had to say goodbye to my gorgeous beagle boy three weeks ago after being referred as an emergency to the animal hospital which is about an hour away from where I live. He suddenly became unwell and there was nothing they could do for him. I got to be with him for a few minutes but due to damn Covid **** I wasn't allowed to be with him at the end and had to watch from a window. I wanted to get him back to my regular vet who would have been able to facilitate me to hold him but he was just too unwell and would have suffered on the journey home. The pain is unbearable at times and I will miss him forever.....
  22. Yes, unfortunately the DRS Blue is way off. It's identical to the BR Blue Hymek colour to my eyes. I've decided to keep my pair as I lean slightly towards rule 1 and can live with it but totally understand people not accepting it. This kind of thing has crept in a lot recently and is not restricted to a particular manufacturer, whereby they have made a previous model (in this case 33207) and got the livery correct and then completely changed it on the most recent releases. Absolutely baffling errors....... Brace yourselves for the Freightliner Orange scenario................
