Firsthand experience that the NHS is this country's most valuable asset.Instead of getting Easter eggs I got multiple heart attacks, which came as a bit of a shock as up to now my health has been excellent. After a few additions to the plumbing of the ticker I'mnow firmly on the road to recovery. I cannot speak highly enough of the care I got in Southampton General Hospital given by people from all four corners of the globe, all diamonds in the crown that is the NHS

That sinking feeling you get when...
You know it's bin day, the leaflet says it's bin day, the website confirms it's bin day but the road is empty and you're the only person putting your bins out.
-
We have proper wheelie bins that are emptied on alternate weeks (recycle:household waste) but we're down to putting them out once every four weeks and that's only because the cats and dog tins (even flattened) and plastic bottles (crushed) take up a lot of space and I daren't leave the household waste for longer than that because of - um - smells and flies, especially in the summer :(. Green waste is recycled 'in-house' as it were, and there's a bottle bank not 100 yards away.

Is painting rails even more tedious than ballasting?
-
I've got no real problem with either painting the rails or ballasting as it's satisfying when it comes together. I can understand if there's yards and yards (or metres and metres) to do - but even then broken up into small chunks, it's doable.
However, I find rails more difficult as these new-fangled acrylic paints don't adhere too well onto the sides unlike enamels. Seems to be a factory finish coating on the track.
Cheers,
Philip

Mystery 3 rail OO tinplate track?
Friend and I were talking earlier, and after digging through some stuff they found some old track they’d got in a job lot for around £50, most of it is Triang standard track (grey plastic base) with one section of super 4, but what caught my eye was two lengths of tinplate 3 rail track, a black tin base, unsure of any branding and they can’t find any markings, can’t be Dublo based on colour alone. At first I thought it may have been Trix Twin, but it’s a tin base, TTR’s was bakelite, any assistance on finding out the origin of this track will be greatly appreciated.

Did everyone enjoy their extra hours sleep? 🤪

60 years ago this morning, a class 40 hauled mail train heading south along the WCML was the target of one of the most infamous crimes in modern British history.

Their brands were still on fire and their hooves were made of steel Their horns were black and shiny and their hot breath he could feel A bolt of fear went through him as they thundered through the sky He saw the riders comin' hard, Heard their mournful cry

Things you never thought you would hear: "We've got a holiday home in Rugeley."

And here's another thing. You remember all those idiots who panic-bought toilet rolls at the beginning of Covid? Latest thing is panic buying of wood chip cat litter! Unbelievable!
-
@woodenhead You might want to .... but just the once. You'll never, ever, do it again - it really is bad, the smell permeates everywhere!! Just. Don't.

My daughter and her husband have an Alexa. The other day he caught their three year-old teaching it how to fart - with some success, apparently.

My GT3 has just arrived from KR models- It's a thing of beauty, did anyone else get one?

Don't think I'll be volunteering to be a passenger on SN10 - not until that landing issue is resolved.

In my case using Firefox, if you hover the cursor over the date/time of the post (top left), on the bottom of my screen is a line that starts with 'https.... and ends .....= 3333333' (number used as an example). That, I assume, is the number to which you refer. This used to appear as a standard feature at the top of the post, but was removed when the site was upgraded. I don't know if there is a way of calling up the post simply by typing the number in the Search Box, as I've never tried.

After seeing last night's total insanity on the other side of the Atlantic, I have a modest proposal: for the sake of the salvation of Western democratic norms, Twitter needs to appoint Andy Y as their new global moderator.

I've just watched the Aberfan scene of a recent episode of The Crown. What a very moving, poignant and well-executed scene of a TV drama. The producers got the rain and slag heaps to a tee, and I was speechless for several minutes after the heap had roared into the village and very sadly destroyed the school. It certainly raises awareness internationally of what was perhaps Britain's worst ever civilian tragic accident.
-
I was still in school in Cardiff when it happened. Apart from the human tragedy of it all, what I took away from it was the terrible decision to use some of the monies collected for the Aberfan fund, to help pay to remove and secure the slag heap! It's not as if the profligate grubbymint of the day couldn't have paid for it anyway being as it was a nationalised industry. Sorry, rant over.
Cheers,
Philip
