  1. Has this mornings problems resulted in inter-member messages being re-routed to "Status Updates" again?

Nope, just the usual. It would be great if Andy Y could somehow make the public message UI less prominent and the private "Message" button more prominent in user profiles. I think that's the main cause.

  5. It would appear DCC Concepts might have a problem they have yet a acknowledge. Can I assume if you had any contact with them they advised they decoders were out of warranty, which is what happened when I contacted them.

      Hi, Welcome to RMWeb.

It's a huge reservoir of knowledge, ideas, inspiration and friendship. :smile_mini2:

(One thing to get used to is the difference between public and private messages. But don't worry - lots of people don't get it right! It's an ongoing thing... :wink_mini: )

  7. Why is Windows 10 file explorer so utterly abysmal?

    1. Harlequin

      Harlequin

Erm... You know that Windows famously alternates between good and bad versions, don't you? ;-)

XP Good, Vista Bad, 7 Good, 8 Bad, 10 Good...

I wouldn't call it utterly abysmal. What is the problem that made you say so?

  9. Feeling right royally down this evening - I have a call tomorrow to look at some software development, I have a ready made solution to the problem I will be faced with but there is another way to do the same thing and I am attempting to get my head around it.

But can I get it to return even the most simple dataset as it should do - no I cannot, spent two days, seen some progress but not enough.

Sometimes I feel like I am a total failure and my imposter syndrome is banging all the drums it can muster at present to make me feel much worse.

Hopefully, now I've said this out loud I will knuckle down and sort it.

I should be more careful when plucking phrases from the back of my brain!

I now understand the original was a metaphor using fruits to warn about false prophets...

It all sounds very Life of Brian - 'Blessed are the cheesemakers.'

Well, yes, it is that bad! Everything in the world is awful! (You might have noticed...)

I had had a couple of glasses of red wine when I wrote the status update so it was possibly a bit over-dramatic.

What I meant was, it's interesting that you can get insights into someone's character from they way they talk about model railways and tangential topics.

I "disappeared" my status post of yesterday because it was time dependant - and not very interesting.

  18. Is it 0 Gauge or O Gauge?

    1. Harlequin

      Harlequin

Clearly (:wink_mini:) it's O gauge, pronounced "Oh gauge", not "Zero gauge" or "nought gauge" and OO is two O characters pronounced "Double Oh".

The Gauge O guild spell their name with an "Oh" and Peco sell "O gauge" with an "Oh" products...

  20. At 05.45 local time, on Monday 16 July, 75 years ago, "the gadget" was tested near Alamogordo, New Mexico and the world was never the same again. Niels Bohr said "Now there can be no more war", if only his words came true.

Oppenheimer could immediately see the threat posed by his new technology and famously used the quote, "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds".

We had the sense to pull back from Nuclear Armageddon but we don't seem to be able to act on the equally serious, insidious and creeping threat of ecological destruction.

  21. Have you noticed that the targeted advertising from Amazon, eBay , etc. is deeply flawed?

They don't understand the difference between being interested in the GWR (like me for instance) and general interest in railways. So I keep getting offers for books about the Southern or the LMS, or heaven forbid, BR! (Urgh! :wink_mini:

It's like sending an Arsenal supporter offers for Man City merchandise!

I think this is a major failing for modern deep-profiled marketing and it should be sorted out!

You mention “ticking a response“. Do you see tick boxes or little icons like a thumbs-up, a heart, a smiley-face, etc.?

Could you try a different browser? I suggest Google Chrome.
