  1. I have just read Jenson Buttons book “How To Be An F1 Driver” and he does make a few comments throughout about how much was taken out of his hands in case of arrangements for travel etc. In particular he mentions about retiring from F1 and having to learn how to pay household bills himself as his management had always taken care of it. I did vaguely wonder earlier today how much of his visa application Novax had actually seen…
  2. I dunno there were some perverse situations in the old rules when you look at who realistically ends up using trailers day to day. E.g when you look at farming the reality was that a farmhand with a basic license could drive a tractor and trailer full of bales from harvest, but not a pickup and trailer with 6 of the same bales on it to feed livestock on the same license.
  3. The BE license rules changed last month so larger trailers are available to anyone with training recommended rather than compulsory - https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-rules-for-towing-a-trailer-or-caravan-with-a-car-from-autumn-2021 . Whether this will usher in a new type of transit van and trailer combo for delivery companies needs to be seen I guess.
  4. Driving through a local town this morning I noted the underpass under the road, that has a far shorter ramp as the clearance is much less, and it made me wonder what the comparative costs are for a new tunnelled underpass vs a new bridge?
  5. A colleague of my wife’s got fired after clocking in and going home again on the day of their first unannounced fire drill in many years.
  6. Wonder what happens if you could adjust the capacity/energy usage/demand for the tat under production (I’m looking at you Christmas crackers!!!) in China to its ultimate destination..
  7. Funny isn’t it, when the father in law was on crutches the last thing he wanted was the extra distance from those ramps (now in a wheelchair it’s more useful) even the obvious methods of disabled access can inconvenience some…
  8. Sitting here in an all electric, storage heated, block of flats can I put my fingers in my ears and shout lalala at this point????
  9. Everyone I know that has tested positive had issues with over contact from track and trace, e.g when my brother and his Wife caught it, they had around 24 phone calls between them over three days, as other contacts tested positive and her employers had passed the relevant records over. This when they were feeling unwell and trying to rest…this type of experience was also reported by colleagues a few weeks ago. Regarding LFT’s I tried on around 20 occasions over the last week and finally managed to get an order in last night. On some occasions it told me straight away there were none available, on the others it allowed me to enter all my details, and then told on the final screen no delivery slots available. Does the distribution contract with Royal Mail allow for x number per region per day I wonder?
  10. Not to mention the other Didcot to Abingdon route via Culham (again avoiding A34) has traffic lights on the Nags Head bridge, restricting to one direction at a time and with delays of up to 30 minutes in a bad day, due to structural damage awaiting repair…and is a listed structure that needs English heritage approval on repair methods and then appropriate contractors booked once process agreed…
  11. This one felt like it was fighting me when trying to stick close to the apex of bends, not for speed but simply because the road in question is relatively narrow and bendy and has a lot of HGV/agricultural traffic often close to/over the middle coming in the other direction. (I was making a one way trip or would have dug deeper Into how to switch it off).
  12. I don’t mind the cruise control in my current vehicle, but the lane assist in a company car I was driving a couple of weeks ago was a pain the backside and not a feature I would want in a car of my own.
  13. And our favourite bridge is back in the news… https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-59825606 https://www.heraldseries.co.uk/news/19814345.traffic-restrictions-place-steventon-railway-bridge-brickwork-weakens/
  14. The problem with Hermes is that on a big company level the losses are no worse than any other carrier, send out 10,000 parcels in a month* and the percentage of losses are no better or worse than any other carrier. The eBay sellers are just the tip of the iceberg for them. *we ship a lot of 3PL shipments with Hermes on behalf of a customer at work.
  15. This is an interesting hypothesis https://www.msn.com/en-gb/health/medical/decisive-use-of-astrazeneca-vaccine-may-have-spared-uk-from-omicron-crisis-hitting-europe
  16. Quite a few of them are based at airports in Hk or China. They have Royal Mail contracts and pack multiple orders into a consolidated pallet, and airfreight it to the given uk address (often a freight forwarder) once or twice a week. The uk addressee customs clears the whole consignment is bulk and hands the parcels straight over to the Royal Mail.
  17. The one I struggled with was preferences on where to buy, I go online due to the lack of any local retailers, rather than because it’s the lowest cost.
  18. I hate to say it, but surely the regulation regarding First, second and third placed drivers etc having to attend is precisely to protect the sport from dummies being thrown out of prams, “it’s the taking part that counts” positive mentality that sport in general is supposed to promote?
  19. Obviously him winning wasn’t in the Netflix script
  20. Beware in Hobbycraft, they have them in both the art and sewing departments. The arts department ones are fine, but significantly less expensive…
  21. Does his appointment this week for a knighthood give him a get out jail free card for it?
  22. It’s a shame, the last lap debacle is taking away from some of the highlights such as the Perez, Hamilton scrap.
  23. As a Merc/Lewis fan I think they have made a number of odd safety car/vsc pit stop decisions over the last couple of seasons, and it is truly coming home to roost. They just seem to be incapable of making a decision and leave their drivers out regardless, whereas Red Bull always feel in control of those particularly decisions. (Does however feel if the last lap shootout was a bit contrived)
  24. The last couple of policies I read for a similar style of operation as hattons limited claims to within 28 or 56 days of the act being carried out.
  25. Press the iPad power button and either of the volume buttons simultaneously and briefly. It will take a screenshot and add it to your photo library. You then start your new post and click the “choose files…” > photo library and click on the screenshot to insert in a post.
