  1. Brass screws I tried yes I also found difficult. Then moved over to copper clad board much easier. This isn’t the best but as it’s on a viaduct end it will be disguised under timbers. yet to slit the join with a fine disk.
  2. Said I’d be still be knocking around waiting, well 6 years later I am! Good to see it out and yes shame about losing all those photos. I held off for a long time as I double post over on Western Thunder so it was all there then Jeff Grainger convinced me to sort it out it’s the currency of the forum. Still my build in the same 6 years has bearly moved! So I’m reassured I’m in good company 😆
  3. Hi Guy happened to be driving by yesterday but my hoped for camera position on the lower slopes of the wood was unreachable in the wet conditions. So much as other photos here I was limited to the road bridge to look at the Calvert. That’s the best I could obtain sorry.
  4. Welcome back! Be good to see some post notifications arriving again in my inbox. looking good can see the work that has gone into that.
  5. Morning Giles, all looking handsome. I don’t want to detract from the magnificent work of Paul’s but is the 3 storey low relief building on the lean? the verticals don’t seem to align with its surrounding buildings? Could be in temporary as you described the others.
  6. So Jeff any truth in putting a radio telescope on the dark side of the moon? Probably not worth while cost over benefits?
  7. Morning Jeff! Yes as ever up all hours! Had my 4 hours so just dozing now. Never really thought about that reference the dark side of the moon. Thanks for the enlightenment.
  8. Really interesting, learning a lot from the above. Thanks for taking the time to explain it Jeff. I didn’t realise we were always looking at the same side of the moon! So presumably if you want to photograph the hidden sides you can only do that from space? or have I miss read?
  9. Outstanding pics Jeff, love em! Makes a welcome detour from 4’8” an a alf stuff! 🤣😉.
  10. Ah that will explain it. Makes perfect sense now! Looking good.
  11. Nicely done Alex, Wasn’t what I was expecting.. I had presumed from your description at Edington it was at 90 deg to how it is I.e. running in line with the other buildings and as wide as the space you left! Now I’m really interested to see how this building blends in.
  12. Good to hear from you Jeff! Seems my poignant post top of the page was a close guess followed by Jay echoing that. Then bless him and may he rest in peace, your good friend Jonathan pops in to update us. Just to prove life is so short, grab everything you love and cherish with both hands while you can. So in doing what makes you happy you are following the path! Keep us updated Jeff and chuck a few of those dark sky photos on here for us to marvel at! Cheers Ade
  13. Cheers Guy I’ll see what I can do. Not overly familiar with the culvert! Is it here as in screenshot below?
  14. Didn’t see it at first! But B less is more usually.
  15. Enjoyed reading the 5 pages Guy, shame a lot of the photos are missing from the earlier pages due to the forum crash! Great looking layout and captures it well. Trackwork looks very good. Then it all does! I live pretty close by and worked as an electrician at Foster Yeoman 1999 to 2003 never took on single photo! Never crossed my mind! As all my focus was on kettles pre 1968! Look back now I worked everywhere over the railway could of captured some decent stuff. I did go over to the wagon repairs shed at Whatley once to look at some lighting, so saw what you have modelled there from inside the fence as it were, your doing/done a great job on it. The culvert photo your short of I’m sure I could get for you but wouldn’t be until I’m that way. So might be next week might be in a months time no good really I know! Following with much interest. Ade
  16. In case anyone is interested this is the true artist at work Boomer. The Matte Medium appears at 16.42 mins. Now I see he uses real limestone to better effect than I managed! I’ll have to study the video again!
  17. Hi Ian it’s woodland scenics fine more n gauge than 00 I have done away with the real stuff causing problems by staining the sleepers with dust which is why I repainted them! the stuff I reused was just up against the rock outcrop not on the track that will be new. Essentially what you said not a good idea to reuse on the track. Though with a small hammer in a jar it did go down quite fine again probably as it had real stone in it! Cheers for the advice. Ade
  18. Was an easy process to remove the ballast as I demonstrate here. Matte Medium the adhesive doesn’t go rock hard at 25 to 75 diluted to water. Then sucked off with a vacuum with a cloth over to recover it. Crushed back to loose again slightly and reused beside the track as below. Sleepers repainted below. More soon. Cheers for the likes and looking in.
  19. Looks Bob on the backscene treatment! Better by far than without coming together rather well.
  20. Ah there you go I did think it that as GER but thought dunno , no harm in asking!
  21. Ah Great a new layout arriving soon. Just caught up with this excellent news, time to change my notification setting to every post and clog up my inbox but small price to pay not to miss anything from Abroad. (Cardiff is abroad)!) Looking good Rob will enjoy seeing this come together. on another note S22 0-6-0 T Accurascale ? Nowt there? From a post a page or 2 back? Cheers….
  22. Thanks for the update Jeff, such sad news. My thoughts with Jonathan’s family. Always enjoyed following his thread. Sorely missed there is no doubt. RIP as you say.
  23. Hi Ian, No Tried that to be honest as they are painted with acrylic I’ve not tried anything other than water and a cotton bud. I suspect the dust has gone into the acrylic as I doubt it was bone dry when I did the ballast! Not thinking there was I. I guess I could try it though nothing to loose. It was a mix of fine woodland scenics and my own crushed lightweight building block. So I guess I’ll drop the real stuff in the mix next time. Always learning and learning by mistakes! Cheers.
  24. Getting there on the tunnel mouth. Foam and Light filler used to shape it. Acrylic paint thrown on and a bit of basket liner and some commercial tufts added with Matt medium as the adhesive. Below the section I’m working on. Above a few straight cracks need more disguise! Should of ripped it all out when I decided to go higher rather than adding too. Below the ballast is troubling me I’ve gone level with the sleepers in a place or 5 and it looks wrong. So started diggin out the ballast. As those sleepers on the left below. Also the actual stone in the ballast has dusted the sleepers and will not come off. So I’m in for repainting all those too Little update coming together a bit now. Cheers for looking in and the likes. Have a healthy and prosperous 2024 all.
