  1. Mike, That's perfect - exactly what I was after, thank you! Jonathan
  2. Martin, Thanks - I was just about to edit my post to say I'm aware of that, but: a) it's not always exactly the case (for example, 60 thou is 1.524mm, but code 60 rail is 1.57mm - though why I'm fretting over 0.046mm is anyone's guess!) and; b) it's more the head and foot widths that I need. But thank you for your reply anyway. Jonathan
  3. I'm after a couple of different sizes of flat-bottomed rail for a project, and wondered if anyone had drawings or dimensions for the various different rail profiles Peco sell? I've emailed Peco asking, but had no response... The ones I'm after are: Part No. Code Height A Head Width B Foot Width C IL-1 60 1.57 0.76 1.24 IL-70 70 IL-3 75 IL-4 80 IL-83 83 As you can see, I managed to find IL-1 dimensions online, but failed to find any of the others! I can't even measure any, as the only track I have at the moment is bullhead. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance, Jonathan
  4. Another wonderful model - I was in York on Saturday, and as we walked past the station I paid far more attention to the hotel, station, and roof, than I ever have done on my (many) previous visits. Due wholeheartedly to this thread!!! Jonathan
  5. I walked over the Millennium Bridge on Saturday, and saw this - due (presumably) to the amount of foot traffic, there's actually a little less grass coverage now than in these pictures, rather than more. It took me completely by surprise, I had no idea it was there - it wasn't until I saw the plaque at the other side of the river that explains what it was that I thought 'I should have taken some pictures of that'! Being too lazy to walk back across to take pictures, I'm pleased to see someone's added it to this thread! Jonathan
  6. Mike, You can always enter the cakebox challenge on here, if you're quick! Jonathan
  7. As part of the 'birthday weekend' for JSModels, I'm running a small competition over on my Facebook page. (Apologies to those who don't do Facebook) Jonathan JSModels
  8. This Sunday is our 1st birthday - a whole year since www.jsmodels.co.uk went live. So to celebrate, how about a nice bit of discount? Use promo code 'BIRTHDAY10' at checkout to get 10% off ALL products!!! Or, spend over £50 to double it up to 20%, with promo code 'BIRTHDAY20'!!! Discount codes are valid until midnight Monday. 9. Mike, Thank you for that, it's really helpful. Interesting how they interpret the rule of 6. Jonathan
  10. Has anyone had confirmation from their local authority that their model railway club can effectively re-open as of step 3 of the government's 'roadmap out of lockdown'? At present this is slated to be not before Monday 17th May. I've heard that many clubs are aiming for this date to re-open to members, based on the fact that most businesses can reopen, including "indoor hospitality", "indoor entertainment" and "indoor adult group sports", but I've not seen anything in writing to say that this is indeed the case. I appreciate that some clubs are registered as businesses, and therefore (one would assume) they are ok to open under the above? What about clubs that are still just good-old-fashioned clubs? Just wanted to get others' thoughts on this before I contact my local authority on behalf of the club... Jonathan
  11. I've made some changes in the background of the website to the way shipping is calculated - UK orders now have a choice of 1st or 2nd class delivery, and now (finally!) orders can be placed for delivery worldwide, not just to the UK. It *should* all work automatically, but if anyone has any issues with it, please get in touch & I'll be happy to try to resolve them for you. Additionally, local pick-up has been added too - so if you are in the area you can collect from me rather than paying for postage (by pre-arrangement & with social distancing, etc). Regards, Jonathan JSModels
  12. Here's one of the old wagon turntables at Dean Clough Mills in Halifax: Jonathan
  13. Thanks to the article in BRM, and this thread, I now know that what I've been calling 'loading hoods/covers' are called 'lucams'! You learn something new every day *shuffles off to edit website descriptions* Edit: and I've no Idea how I've never found this thread before!
  14. Already owning a couple of closed-cab versions of the Ruston, I've just bought an open-cab version. Can anyone recommend a specific figure from Hardy's Hobbies, Modelu, or similar, that would stand in the doorway leaning out slightly, obscuring the view into the cab? The cab will be home to a supercap and associated PCB, which would otherwise be visible through the open door. Something along the lines of this or this (but not sure if either of these will fit right). JRB
  15. Brian from Braeside Models @brylonscamel has just sent these pictures through of one of my kits he's painted for me - absolutely stunning! Can't wait to get the finished model back here so I can appreciate it in person. Thanks Brian! Jonathan JSModels
  16. No apology necessary. That 'step' is the cill, which is the change in the level of the bottom of the canal. If you look at the pictures of the prototype I just linked to, you'll see a white line painted on either side of the lock in line with that, called the 'cill marker'. That's so people know where it is & can make sure the boat is clear of that point. Otherwise, this happens Jonathan JSModels
  17. David, Certainly. In fact, here's the album with them all. Enjoy! Regards, Jonathan JSModels
  18. I can't help on your other questions, but regarding this point, I've always felt that the ready to plant resin buildings from both Bachmann and Hornby always seem slightly underscale. Jonathan
  19. Following the very successful launch yesterday, this kit sold out very quickly. I've now produced some more and have added them to the website. The 20% discount code is still valid for this new stock, too. Regards, Jonathan JSModels
  20. This has been a long time coming, but my latest 4mm scale kit is finally here - JSM4LK01 - 'Canal Lock': Based on a prototype on the Rochdale Canal, but very similar to canal locks up and down the UK, this comprehensive new kit is the first kit from JSModels to feature 3D printed and photo-etched detailing parts. Measuring 570mm long when completed, the lock has a rise of 10’ (40mm) and includes fully detailed gates, winding gear, access ladders, bridge, and steps. Designed to be filled with resin ‘water’ to a depth of 3mm, to blend the lock in with the adjacent canal sections, this model will enhance any scenic layout, and will sit just as easily in urban and industrial areas as in the countryside. The kit includes laser-cut parts in 1mm, 2mm, 3mm, and 6mm MDF; etched brass ladders & other detailing parts; 3D printed winding gear; nickel-silver wire; and full colour, printed assembly instructions. The kit is in stock and available to order now via the website, www.jsmodels.co.uk at a price of £75.00. As an added bonus, to celebrate the third ‘World of Railways’ Virtual Exhibition, (13th – 14th March) the first ten orders for this kit placed via the website will get 20% off with the discount code 'WOR20LOCK'! Jonathan JSModels
  21. ...until the unveiling of my latest kit, at the World of Railways Virtual Exhibition! Jonathan JSModels
  22. I'm fairly certain you meant the Covid vaccine there, but thought I should point it out before someone gets the wrong idea....
  23. I've been working on a commission from a member here - a model of the island building from Llandudno Junction. To test that everything goes together as it should, I've assembled a test piece/prototype. There are a couple of very minor changes to make prior to cutting the actual full-length model, but this is pretty much it: The finished building (not including the canopy) will be over 800mm long - so this represents less than one quarter of the finished length (though the width & height of the model are correct). The depth of the canopy has been reduced from the prototype, to fit on the client's platform (which luckily he had the foresight to straighten out, rather than me having to make the whole building and canopy on a very gentle curve!) but I hope it's captured the 'feel' of the prototype: Here it is with the solid part of the canopy in place. There is a glazed section to go either side of the building, hence the gaps! Also missing the roof tiles, chimneys, and the valance around the edge...: I started working on this for Jack a couple of months ago, but it's been on the back burner for the last few weeks as I've been busy working on new products. It's been great to get back to this again, it's going to be a lovely building when it's finished! Don't forget to tune in on Saturday for the virtual show, and my new product launch... Regards, Jonathan JSModels
