  1. I can now clarify why I didn't act on some of the info given around the time when this thread was started. I initiated it hoping that someone could make custom-designed boards. When it got re-kindled, It was actually looking for exhibition layout boards. I apologise for this confusion. To further re-clarify, I was looking for boards from 1' 6"+ in width.
  2. Butterflies who are interested in many areas of modelling?
  3. I (mistakenly?) assumed that it would be cheaper as labour costs would not be necessary. Well, I will go to a factory in the orient and commission if the crates don't work.
  4. And the crates are cheap as chips to add into the bargain.
  5. This is the intrigue so far. PITA is considered 'vulgar slang' by the Oxford English Dictionary https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/pita I point out that I am not James Petts, a guy I've never heard of in my life. I live near (a couple of houses down the road from his place) Ed. I have asked for more info as a potential buyer. That's all. The same computer sounds really odd. It is very unlikely. I spend my free time enjoying the model railway hobby digitally and physically. I wish to apologise to anyone who actually thinks that I was a bit of an annoyance before Andrew York mentioned it. The same goes for people who feel so afterwards genuinely. I give you my sincere apologies. I will now talk a bit about the people who I am somewhat uncomfortable with. These are people who have formed opinions based on hearsay. I don't mind Mr York making these statements as long as people don't form misguided opinions. After all, he does have rights under the Human Rights Act- the freedom of speech and expression. I also wish to enquire what 'line of enquiry' Mr York used. I admit to messaging numerous members regarding their layouts. This is only to see if they're something I want to buy. Caveat Emptor. The DJM thread was locked. I don't understand why a member chose very deliberately single me out for some blame. No-one was to blame. The thread was getting a bit out of hand, but I cannot say that I created the problems. These are the kinds of comments that are incredibly unjust. I believe there's a word in the dictionary for it. I think it's called malice Only joking. Don't forget the 'show' element while reading this! I perhaps don't take things too seriously when asking questions (can't pay for some boards whilst re-flooring the modelling space etc.) but it didn't harm anyone...did it? My apologies to those who took offence at this. All in all, I'm an ordinary person who wants a big layout while needing to manage without a colossal budget. That's why O doesn't form my main layout. I've figured out that I'm very much a 'runner' in case that helps.
  6. I will look into pallets, thanks! Not for the modelling, surely. The thread regarding the intrigue is here: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/135410-the-mystery/ I would like to thank Redgate for offering what is one of few non-judgmental comments about modelling that have been given today.
  7. Because of my budget. A point costs £10, loco £100-ish and a coach will set you back £30 according to Hattons/Rails prices. Spending £400 on baseboards is simply out of the question. If I look at White Rose's 1050mm by 600mm boards, they are £68 each. I will use for these purposes a run of 5+3.5+2+2.5 m, which equals 13m or around 13 boards. That sets me back £884. I can't really afford that.
  8. I realise a couple of quid is lunacy, but I would like to write it as Cost per sensibly-sized baseboard<£45. If that's a bit difficult to get, just list the cheapest.
  9. This is the last post I will be making on this thread about confused identities and eager questioning etc. I originally thought that this discussion would involve a couple of messages, but this is now becoming a bit lengthy- RMWeb has a reputation of digressing, but not to this extent on such an irrelevant issue I am indeed intrigued to see what you are saying and at the very least it would be a bit of a show for the good folk of this forum. Also, I didn't attempt to introduce a new topic into this thread...
  10. May I suggest that Wheeltappers might be a better place to hold this conversation? I would rather not hijack a conversation about baseboards.
  11. I have not... We live near each other as neighbours. I don't get where the computer theory comes from...
  12. I don't. I would like to apologise to anyone who feels like this, but I am somewhat at a loss to understand why the word 'troll' is used. I perhaps do have a habit of asking lots of questions, but not with the intention of wasting people's time. As a relative newcomer (a couple of years now) who has limited skills, I admit that I will be quite eager to ask questions. Will look into it, thanks.
  13. FACT: I ask a lot of questions. FICTION: I'm the same person. I don't mind some 'mystery' like this but it is a myth.
