  1. This picture is proof that we need to be aware of our surroundings. Most of the time, freight trains do not stop at stop signs here in the United States. This is a picture of a Union Pacific Railroad train in Gretna, Louisiana. The train is running down 5th Street. Gretna is a suburb of New Orleans. https://www.railpictures.net/photo/92508/ Wendell Idaho, USA
  2. The former Southern Pacific mainline in Oakland runs through Jack London Square along The Embarcadero. The street running trackage along 3rd Street in the above picture is no longer in use today(former Western Pacific Railroad trackage). Wendell Idaho, USA
  3. Here's a picture of the Albany & Eastern Railroad in Lebanon, Oregon. The railroad is making a light engine move down West Olive Street. 7. This lift bridge is easily visible along Metra's Union Pacific North Line. The Metra trains along the UP North Line run from Downtown Chicago to Kenosha, Wisconsin. At least two decades ago, I had ridden trains along this route when I was in the United States Navy. Wendell Idaho, USA
  8. You are off to a good start. Keep up the good work. How To Build A Switching Layout is a great book with a lot of great information about building a small switching layout. There is nothing wrong with building a small switching layout in N scale. I have both N and HO scale locomotives in my apartment. Wendell Idaho, USA
  9. Here's a pair of pictures of a RTD A Line commuter train in Denver. In both pictures, the train had departed from Denver International Airport and heading to Union Station in Downtown Denver. https://www.railpictures.net/photo/708727/ https://www.railpictures.net/photo/764206/ Wendell Idaho, USA
  10. Here's a picture of a Seattle Center Monorail train in Downtown Seattle. This picture was taken from the top of the iconic Space Needle. https://www.railpictures.net/photo/772853/ Wendell Idaho, USA
  11. Here's a picture of a Minneapolis, St. Paul, and Sault Ste. Marie(Soo Line) Railroad and a Union Pacific Railroad train in Kansas City, Kansas. 14. The WES uses diesel multiple units(DMU) from the former Colorado Railcar. I don't think they use the old RDC's anymore if I am not mistaken. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/WES_Commuter_Rail Wendell Idaho, USA
  15. Here's a new picture of the Florida Northern Railroad in Ocala, Florida. The train is running down Osceola Avenue. 18. I am going to always love the Southern Pacific Railroad because I had grew up around that railroad in the Los Angeles area. Now, I am not one of those people who loves the Espee but hates the Union Pacific Railroad. Life goes on. The Southern Pacific was in a financial mess and close to bankruptcy before the Union Pacific bought them out. Wendell Idaho, USA
  19. L.A. Metro's A Line(formerly Blue Line) runs mostly down Long Beach Boulevard(formerly American Avenue) in the City of Long Beach. Long Beach Boulevard is a former Pacific Electric Railway corridor. Wendell Idaho, USA

  22. Here's a sidenote about the Eastern Idaho Railroad: Most of the EIRR's locomotives are in the corporate image of Watco(black and yellow). The Union Pacific Railroad has trackage rights on the line between Minidoka and Buhl(via Burley and Twin Falls). https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Idaho_Railroad https://web.archive.org/web/20140201200735/http://www.watcocompanies.com/Railroads/eirr/eirr.htm Wendell Idaho, USA
  23. About two days ago, I had spent much of the day having fun in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area. Here's two pictures of a TriMet Westside Express Service(WES) commuter rail train in suburban Beaverton, Oregon taken from my smartphone. The train does street running for about two blocks along Southwest(SW) Lombard Avenue. In these pictures, I am standing at the intersection of Southwest Lombard Avenue and Southwest Broadway Street. I had ridden down this commuter route to Wilsonville, Oregon and back to Beaverton. Tammie's Hobbies model train store is about 200 feet from where I am standing. I had bought some N scale cars at Tammie's Hobbies and at The Hobby Smith model train store in Portland. Wendell Idaho, USA
