I don't know how these fit into a North Eastern layout ( slowly being built), but I found out I had enough points to make a pack half price. Which made them far too tempting! Ho hum.

Only available in the UK. Which is a pity when you are in Canada. Oxford did offer one of their Bargain Boxes for outside of the UK and very good they were too. Ordered twice and both times a great selection of models.

Thinking of the Hornby Catalogues of the 80s, I remember there was a coach and a brake for the Big Four, the LNER were based on Thompson but the other three were Mk1 based. There was also I believe MK1 and Mk2 for BR. These were available every year and I suppose allowed the right colour coach to be pulled by your locomotive. Lima at the time did MK1s of four types including Green, Chocolate/Cream and Maroon but with BR markings. Today we expect more authentic stock and I suppose these must be produced in fixed numbers so that when/if they sell out that is it until a further batch is ordered. If other designs are being produced, the factory may not have the capacity to make that batch. The fact that production is now based in China and that unsold stock in a warehouse doesn't fit in with today's business models. will mean that it may longer not be possible to always buy the new stock that might be required for whatever locomotive.

I can understand why my mate plays with Hornby Dublo and Triang! Then again he can turn the air blue when talking about Super 4 Track!

A 6 PUL or 6 Pan would be interesting, but like a Rolls Royce, if you have to ask the price, you can't afford it!

Basically a first time buyer is somebody who is not already on the system as a purchaser. Fairly easy to monitor. If Hornby sell direct they make more profit than if the sale is through a third party. This is good for Hornby and if it means more are aware of the brand and decide to buy more from other sources good for other retailers as well.

Wood decays unless you cover it with something to preserve it, be it paint or creosote. To determine which waggon it was, somebody would have to put some form of identification on it. But as there was not colour photography in the 1820s it would be difficult to determine what it looked like at the time. You could argue that if somebody had painted a picture and had used the correct colours, now some 200 years later those colours would have aged and might have changed in shade somewhat.
