Here's mine! Hopefully it shows an elderly coach that has been sold off to a light railway where it is kept outside and isn't cared for. It has had the ends painted, weathering, passengers, new decals and even new buffers!

Boxfile on a Budget - Phase 2
OliverRowley replied to Andrew D's topic in Boxfiles, Micro layouts & Dioramas
Great stuff man! Love the phase 1 (and the videos too), very much looking forward to phase 2! Very inspirational and has spurred me on to finish mine! A mistake I made with mine I believe was trying to make too much from it. It has 2 fiddle yards and in theory 2 sides to view from, but I have found the 'complexity' (well or me anyways) and life has killed my urge to model- until now! Thanks again Ol -

Looks class! How did you make the dumb buffers? -
Don't sweat it dude! I agree and if I'm honest I was tempted by its cheap price and the fact it had been stretched to fit a chassis too big for it- thus giving me a loco with a more generic appearance. At least that was the first thinking! Noted! Thanks on reflection the B12 tender has better proportions! I think I'll press on, but alter the backstory to have it as a later built loco just to suit what I have! My ear is still to the ground for cheap for small tender locos that would better suit the initial brief! Thanks Olly

Out to the shed I went, to trim the cabsides down to allow me to change the profile and give it a different appearance. I also cut the roof in half too. Leaving me very roughly with this: Whilst in there I also found a Mainline BR Standard tender, which I love the shape of and the rivet detailing. However, the taller part wouldn't suit my needs so I trimmed it giving me this: Together they create this: A very rough and scruffy start! If you have any ideas for this project let me know! Ol

Hello all, Currently I am working on a tender loco for my colliery light railway. Some of my big inspirations are: https://www.rmweb.co.uk/profile/898-corbs/- Corbs built a Lambton style 0-6-0 https://www.lner.info/locos/J/j11.ph- A small tender loco built around the turn of the century http://www.mining-memorabilia.co.uk/The_Harton_Coal_Company_And_Marsden_Railway.htm- Harton Colliery had multiple 0-6-0 tender locos that ran both coal and passenger working on the colliery railway. I have based some of my own collieries workings based on this! In short, I want to build a tender loco for my own colliery. A loco that was built by a contracted builder for a pre-grouping company before being passed to an auctioneers who then sold it to my colliery. My first job was to source a body- this entailed searching ebay and shops until I found a whitemetal body for (ironically) a J11 altered to suit a generic 0-6-0 chassis. I then had a nosey around my spares to find a possible tender, until I had this.

Looks brilliant! Amazing what a new pair of buffer beams and a few extra details could do to change the look of a model! -

Wow sounds great! Loving the rebuilds, they look wonderful! Any chance of seeing any other members of the fleet? Ol -
Hero, Thank you very much- please done apologise I want this kind of response! I shall update you when I have gone back to it; which I think is one of the joys of this hobby, you can always alter and correct! Also a copy of Industrial Steam in Colour has been purchased- West Midlands too so its where the colliery would have been! Thanks Oliver

The Kelsby Light Railway; or, Red's Hopeful Layout
OliverRowley replied to RedGemAlchemist's topic in Layout topics
Looks great! Love the charm of the layout you are building! -
Here's mine! Hopefully representing a scruffy loco eeking out an existence on a ever reducing network surrounded by a growing fleet of diesels in the mid 1970s. I do regret not buying one of the works green examples as it'd be better for my own colliery, as even with the removal of the Ryhope Colliery text removed it will be forever associated with that colliery despite not modelling it. Suppose it makes for a better fictional history! Work plates are at home (not with me annoyingly) as well as a crew are obvious omissions from the model. While I'm here is there anything I can do to improve it? Olly

Train Crash 2ft Challenge
OliverRowley replied to OliverRowley's topic in Boxfiles, Micro layouts & Dioramas
So here's my progress! The scenery is in, well the start of it, with the hillside and the brick abutment in. I am still working on the coal chute to be fitted, but my maths is a little bit off so when I trial fitted it didn't work. More work needed. Here are some shots 'from the line' which I am really rather pleased with! -
Train Crash 2ft Challenge
OliverRowley replied to OliverRowley's topic in Boxfiles, Micro layouts & Dioramas
Here's mine! So if you follow me on instagram (@heaptoncolliery if you want to) you'll have seen I've altered what I am entering. I'll do a full write up when its finished, but the short end is the layout is part of the Heapton Colliery network where waste coal is transferred between standard gauge onto the narrow gauge for disposal. It will work! I hope. Using a Triang grain wagon and a shute built underneath the standard gauge track aiming coal into the wagons below. The layout (which I suppose it is) represents the end of the town of Heapton as the railway moves out towards the colliery itself. Furthermore the layout should also be bi-viewable- being viewable from both sides. A little more scenery is being worked on hinting at a rural scene to the right where the track will counter curve away from eachother, but that's not done yet. Any thoughts- let me know! Olly PS bar the Ruston all stock is being worked on or in the queue to be (hence the patch Kerr Stuart and print line ridden wagons) -
Train Crash 2ft Challenge

So, with the regulations in place- what ideas have we got? Currently I'm toying up a a 009 roundy, Colliery incline or a colliery shed. Pictures to follow! -

Hello! Apologies about the late comment as I've been away. Anyway, following some deliberation with Mr Luke Noble, the parameters are 2x2 feet. Or anything smaller. Hope this clears it up for people and apologies again Olly -
