  1. I had a thought that local authority Planning websites are often a good source of information, use them a lot at work. There has been an application to alter the museum, only limited to part of the building being altered but hopefully useful. https://wam.highland.gov.uk/wam/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=QGE1CRIHGFN00 Full list of applications here. https://wam.highland.gov.uk/wam/propertyDetails.do?activeTab=relatedCases&keyVal=J1OME4IHLI191 One day I may get round to starting a 70s/80s based layout but have so far only been collecting information.
  2. I realise your post was quite a while ago but I don't look at this forum too often. You could try Skye & Lochalsh Archive Centre, they posted drawings of Portree hospital and harbour house recently on Facebook. They could have other buildings available. https://www.facebook.com/skyearchives
  3. Lots of interesting photos of Edinburgh including Leith Central on this site. http://www.edinphoto.org.uk/0_edin_t/0_edinburgh_transport_-_railways_leith.htm

    Class 26

That's exactly the point I made back in October- why doesn't the loco come with even the most basic instructions on how to fit the accessories- I gave up and left them in the box which is a shame.

    Class 26

I got my model a couple of weeks ago and agree it looks great. My only comment is that the blue version didn't come with snowploughs as originally stated when the model was first proposed. Can someone please tell me if the Dapol pack NDetail1 will fit? If not is there anything else suitable on the market? http://www.Dapol.co....emart&Itemid=59 I see that according to CJM not all class 26s were fitted with ploughs but it would be good to fit one for a Kyle based layout. What did they do in winter if no ploughs were fitted? When I was about 6 we had to abandon our car at Kyle and take the train to Inverness due to the snow and I'm told by my parents that the loco was having to take a run at some of the drifts, I don't reacll that journey until stepping in an icy puddle many hours later in Glasgow! But I digress, it would also have been really helpfull if instructions had been provided for fitting the accessory pack. Howver, these two minor matters don't detract from a great model and I can't wait to get it running on a layout. Thanks
  6. Having lived at Bunchrew (not Buncrewe) I don't recall oil tanks but it may have been before my time, late 70s and early 80s. We looked out onto the line about a mile North of the disused Bunchrew station. It's also not mentioned on RailBrit which is usually pretty good source of information. Be interested to see any pictures or maps if they are available? http://www.railbrit.co.uk/Inverness_and_Ross-shire_Railway/frame.htm I'm sure that Lairg though still has oil trains, search on Railbrit and there are some recent images. The Highland Bitumens plant was at Culloden and I can recall passing the tankers there when on the main line trains, there would be a small flame visble sometimes which I guess would be keeping the bitumen liquid. Peco do these wagons in N gauge. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2308310 Someone else also mentioned Shrewsbury Abbey Foregate, we used to visit my Gran and frequently walk the dogs on the old Potts line which joined onto the occassionally in use branch to the Oil depot in the Abbey Foregate. Highlight of my holidays would be seeing the train, always an 08, from memory they would stop and change the points at a ground frame and then have to unlock gates into the storage compound. There are pictures somewhere at my parents house of us next to the line with the train in the background. I think there was only one train a week which was why it was considered safe to walk along the line! http://shrewsburyrht.org.uk/history/shropshire-and-montgomeryshire-railway/
