Hi All. Third rail arc is all well and good, but, in real life the arc can light up the sky, and the arc is often accompanied by sound, that of which I cannot describe, now if a sound file was available that would be life like. Happy modelling Kev

Westerham, + Weald. Tarmac surface for the platform
retiredoperator replied to westerhamstation's topic in Layout topics
Hi Westerhamstation. I agree with everyone, but now, after several years, the line has gone and indeed partly built over by the construction of the M25. I don’t know if there are any followers that bother with youtube, but there is an interesting video on the line, with a commentary. Happy Modelling Kev -
Hi Siberian Snooper. Thank you for the info, I will look into that. Happy Modelling Kev

Hi Modellers. I have been building Shunting Puzzles up until now? But just now I have been looking at BLT’s , and there are a range of ideas up and down the regions, mostly using 0-6-0 tank engines. With a small turntable used as part of the runaround, but before I can put this idea into an actual layout I would need a small turntable, just big enough to handle an 0-6-0 otherwise it would defeat the object of space saving. Any bright ideas please? Happy Modelling Kev

Hi The johnster. Thank you. From one c*ck handed Modeller to another, I am suffering with arthritis and need oversized handles on everything to get a grip. Happy Modelling Kev -
Beginner, Terminus plan
retiredoperator replied to Titanius Anglesmith's topic in Layout & Track Design
Hi Titanius Anglesmith I am interested in working signals , as much as I am a newbie to model Railways, I am familiar with “ Prototype Signals “, and have been criticised for my expectations of some manufacturers interpretations of how Model signals operate in relation to semaphore signals , which can be seen on many YouTube Layouts . Have you got any plans for your system? Happy Modelling Kev PS I didn’t mention “ Pinch of Salt “ . See if you can work out what “ Retired Operator “ means? I will give you a clue, DOO. -
BR Locomotive Green
retiredoperator replied to PenrithBeacon's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
Hi Modellers. I have a Hornby Blue 06 class Shunter , which I thought I might add a Decoder to maybe lamps as well, after reading an article in Model Rail, and then if I get it wrong and burn out the motor or something silly it won’t matter too much and it would be practice for a decent Loco DCC conversion But then I thought I don’t want a blue Loco running around on my layout, maybe I can paint it, black or green? As I don’t own or want an air brush , could I do it by hand, or would that really “ buffer it up?” But then there is the question of transfers. Any opinions. Happy Modelling Kev -

Straightening warped plastic kit parts
retiredoperator replied to ejstubbs's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
Hi Modellers. I have got a similar problem but, with the Dapol Presflo Wagon Kits but so far it is the end of the first Wagon doesn’t match the sides as it appears to on the straight side. If I was to glue/ cement/ or use solvent on the part that fits, once it has set could I bend with the hot water treatment the offending part into shape without affecting the already glued part? (Okay it is a silly question) Happy Modelling Kev -
Hi Darren I have two such Pug that I bought off eBay a couple of years back, and have been considering doing the same for my Pugs, but they run well in DC and I am wondering if it is worth me doing the work and the chances of me stopping them working all together. I have heard comments about using the best Decoder available, meaning not the Hornby type . Happy Modelling Kev

Depot Diorama - 4mm shed
retiredoperator replied to mudmagnet's topic in Boxfiles, Micro layouts & Dioramas
Hi Richard. Very good indeed. I do like the painting of the figures . And if I could fit the likes of them in Loco Cabs? then I would. Please excuse my ignorance, but, did you paint them yourself ? or buy them painted? Happy Modelling Kev -
brewery sidings (now sold)
retiredoperator replied to long island jack's topic in Boxfiles, Micro layouts & Dioramas
Hi Long Island Jack. Excellent job. I keep building Inglenook Sidings, but I can never seem to be able to get so much into such a small space. How do you do it? Keep up the good work. Happy Modelling Kev -
Dapol Kitmaster Wagon Kits - coupling
retiredoperator replied to Crumplezone's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
Hi Crumplezone and interested parties. I have recently bought some Dapol “kitmaster” Presflo Wagon Kits. The wheels are not plastic, and don’t look bad to me, but the Couplings are made of plastic. Which gives me two choices, either Kadee my first choice or NEM pockets . But as I prefer Kadee there is no other option. And then of course additional weight for stability, means liquid lead and glue to keep it in place. Unless any Modeller can advise of a better way to do it. Happy Modelling Kev -
Hi Clarkeeboy56 What a super Railway you are building there. If I only had the patience, I am stuck on building an imaginary layout, and getting nowhere fast. As for the love and effort you are putting into that station, need I say more? I have no chance of doing such intricate work. Happy Modelling Kev

Hi Modellers one and all. Thank you for the answers, the last one reminds me of coming home from an early shift and popping into my local for a swift pint. Where I often had a chat with a Gateman from the “Bricklayers Arms Goods Depot “ there was “ probably “ plenty of his colleagues in other local pubs at dinner time. Happy Modelling Kev

Hi Modellers. Please excuse my ignorance. But I always thought that the guards van was the last vehicle on a train, ie at the rear, my question is how did they drop off wagons without leaving the guards-van behind. Happy Modelling Kev

Hi Matador. I am sorry that I cannot assist you, but, it does seem a worthwhile project. And with the replies from other members I wish you good luck, just being nosy, I was thinking about the size of baseboard you had planned using? that would enhance your plans. Happy Modelling Kev

retiredoperator replied to Titanius Anglesmith's topic in Layout & Track Design
Hi Modellers. As a new boy it looks good to me? But, a wise man once told me that “ Less is Best “ whether everyone agrees with that I don’t know, but it is a good excuse and onlookers can see the details better. Happy Modelling Kev -
Southern Railway carriage sidings
retiredoperator replied to Southernfrance's topic in UK Prototype Questions
Hi Modellers. If only I had enough space, a gymnasium? or the likes of? I too would like to build a similar “ extravaganza “, nothing wrong with that. But limited as I am to a modest space , I have come up with a possible solution, a back scene of either an MPD full of Locos, or a carriage sidings likewise full of empty stock. But if this is available in OO Gauge I haven’t seen one. Have any of you knowledgeable Modellers got any ideas? Happy Modelling Kev -
Hi Modellers. I have a load of cheap Pugs, okay so they are all cheap, but, I The model that I am referring to “ cab side 11232 “ would like to add DCC is the ex L & Y type. I have seen the video of a similar one with sound as I suspect a lot of Modellers have. It is not a simple question of unclipping the cab , it involves screws and whatever else with pickups and what wires go where? has anyone got suitable suggestions? Happy Modelling Kev
