  1. Thank you all for your educational responses. I have just finished my second read through on all of them and I'm sure a 3 and 4th will follow. I will look into locking down a smaller regional area to model. I have looked at Pendon's website and grabbed pics but now I'm going to image search them and see if I can find fellow hobbyists pics that may offer a more nuanced viewpoint.
  2. These maybe some very basic questions but after 4 nights of "googleing" i'm throwing up the white flag. My main issue is I'm not from the UK. I am very willing to answer any question for rail modeling in the USA. I'm attempting to model GWR region pre 1920's and in process of now flocking my 2.5908 by 1.6764 meter table. (yes I had to googled the conversion.) I would be thankful if you would kindly aid me with the following questions. Brick or Ashlar? would one find these materials mixed? (google keeps showing the ten most picturesque villages in Britain and it looks like no one has ever put in a ugly addition I have to think that's not normal) would one dominate an era and what would they be? Privy? I think on card kits for terraced houses. But the cottages I'm looking at over at Scalescenes should I plan on scratch building privies? Mixing of Animals? for pasture lands was it common to have mixed herds out in pastures, i.e. sheep and dairy confined together? Crops in this area and era? ( I remember many seeing fields of flax (i think), but you would not have founds huge fields of soy beans over here 100 years ago like you would now) I would think roads would be dirt in rural areas? In village or small towns? dirt, gravel, brick, cobblestone? Would it be likely to see sidewalks? Last one... I remember reading that GWR used mainly crushed granite for ballast (please say i'm not off the mark) would farm walls most likely in this area be made of the same? crap that is two sorry!
  3. Thank you for the great welcome. Last night I watched (thanks to you tube) Ivor and Thomas which I found the need to add a 0-4-0 to my list and to someday see Wales. I visited the BRMNA website and will seek membership for 2019.
  4. Thanks Mike that was alright. Soldor? some needs to make a Moldor mash up with Thomas.
  5. So my cat or the wind, or I knocked over a brand new Full bottle of CA glue on my Hornby Knight of St. Patrick Tender. I was able to remove the 99% of the glue from the metal but it having to use acetone it left the tender side pitted and discolored. Well I thought no problem I'll email Hornby they will help... Nope. Ok, no problem, I've been air brushing 1/35 scale tanks since I was 14. So I order some 405 GWR/BR Green from Hornby. It arrived last night and I mixed it up and did a color test on some white plastic. It was not a great match. So I ask, am I using the right color? Is there a finer match from another paint company? Should I giveup and run it count clockwise and ignore the her on the back end of the run...
  6. Hi, from Illinois, we just celebrated 200 years of Statehood and corruption, yesterday (They cooked the books to hit the number the feds needed for statehood). I'm 40 been out of the hobby for 22 years and I missed the sound of a model train going around the tracks. My father introduced me to UK trains with a kid book "Steam Train Journey" by Huck Scarry and I've wanted a 0-6-0 GWR ever since. This past year I have been building a GWR WWI era layout on the cheap. I was inspired to start down the road when I saw the Bachmann hospital train. This led me to wonder why I could never find UK trains over here. Thank you ebay... Lastly, I have never seen "Thomas the Train Engine" full episode but I think I would have loved it if it was out when I was a kid (I received an odd comment over at another forum which will remain nameless).
