  1. Moneysarefun posted this link in another thread: They’ve posted headstones, statuary etc they’ve made using it and seem to get great results (I’ve not used it myself, just find the concept intriguing). Might get you at least part way there also, don’t Oxford make Scanias in 1\76th? Probably showing my ignorance of different truck types
  2. That works well on paper and is a neat solution. I may need to modify the points to ensure decent running based on what i've read here and elsewhere, but that should be doable if needed Thanks
  3. Thanks. I thinks that’s another improvement if a use the PECO catch point (which as far as I can work out are trap points rather than catch points), or modify a PECO short radius point (or even a Hornby one from the Thomas layout languishing in storage) that cuts down the curve as well somewhere either inside that curve or between the turntable and running lines is where I plan to site the signal box. “Just” need to try to work out where the signals should be sited, how many levers are needed and thus the size of the box. Might take a while…
  4. The brakevan siding i think i've fixed - it does introduce a bit of a wiggle as i'm trying to keep to the points i actually have rather than buy more, if I can. I had a layout planned, but it all changed once Covid hit and the space became where I had to work from. Its not just cost, they just seem to be out of stock everywhere unless I pay silly $ for postage. I'm reasonably certain Mike (Stationmaster?) was referring to the branch loop rather than the branch itself when he was talking about spacing from the running lines I think this version is better for the BLT run round? I should be able to fit at least two coaches in the run round loop, or 5 or so wagons and the shunting will be well away from the main terminus. At least in this compressed version it will be
  5. I’ve sort of forgotten about the branch, but you’re right I’d end up shunting into the main terminus which is not my intent. I’ll try to fix it in the next version. Thanks
  6. OK - making the changes to the goods yard was relatively simple. However your suggestion to make the two main lines parallel was an absolute [expletive]. Still I think I've managed it and I really think it looks a lot better, so it was worth it. The new siding off the loop is intended to hold a brake van (also as you suggested). I've also suggested a trap point off the carriage siding - I think I'll replace this with the actual PECO catch point if I can find one Cheers Phil
  7. I think I get most of that (although I'm probably wrong; I am married so its my natural state). So: Make the station throat Minories, with the Minories loco spur being my carriage siding (but with added trap point) Shift everything a little to the left No run round loop on P3 The line next over from P3 (which currently is used as part of the branch run round loop) becomes the 1st goods siding This line is then extended parallel to the branch much as LNER originally drew it and connects with the branch line to form a loop (with trap point) Then additional goods sidings which are arranged in the area from P3 to the edge of the baseboard I'm not sure what you mean by a suitable slip at the yard entrance though Hopefully I've got it right - or at least close?
  8. I much prefer the idea of a carriage siding to another platform. As you say, the shunting add to the fun
  9. Knew i'd miss something Given that trap points have (hopefully) only an aesthetic value on the layout, albeit important, is there any reason why I can't use the dreaded small radius streamline points as trains would only ever travel over the points in straight ahead mode? At $35+ a pop (plus P&P) the 'decent' points are not cheap down here, plus everyone appears to be out of stock
  10. Good suggestion. As my real life railway experiences post-date steam and the closure of vast swathe's of goods facilities, I find it hard to envisage just how big goods facilities were. I grew up not far from where you are in Yatton, a fairly small Somerset village during the ere I'm modelling, and even there wikipedia describes the goods facilities as "significant"; no doubt aided by the flow of strawberries and milk along the cheddar line. The goods loops extended for about 1.5 miles (about 32m in oo gauge). Apparently the signal box at Yatton had 129 levers (I know its not related, i just find it a little staggering)
  11. So this is the latest iteration incorporating: - run round loop for the branch/goods, although I only think it will work for decent length goods trains if they arrive on the branch platform; good job the branch will only have an intermittent service - carriage siding added which should, if my measurements are right, comfortably hold 5 63'6" Mk1s - added a little more detail around the cassettes; they'll be modular but in set sizes; they'll be a removable support underneath - has to be removable as it blocks an outwards facing door and, more importantly, my fermenting fridge I think its a massive improvement on where I started, so much thanks from me
  12. I think I can squeeze a decent length carriage siding in next to the 1st platform to the left. Thanks for the suggestion
  13. Thanks for that - excellent idea. I will flip it though as per the Stationmaster's suggestion to avoid facing points on the branch
  14. That thread was one I followed and it’s clearly a great plan. I think I’d either have to severely shorten the platforms or lose much of the goods yard to squeeze it into the space I have though as it’s 800mm longer. I think that lack of space is a fairly common theme in this hobby, even though I do realise that I’m luckier than many in that regard
  15. I was also thinking that maybe the top left corner near the turntable is really busy, so was thinking of simplifying to the below. One of the 2 upper sidings would have an engine shed and they would share water and coaling facilities. probably need to add ash pits as well. Does this make sense?
