  1. I'm sorry but I don't do PC - nor do people lecture me on my behaviour. It's a simple rule I live by. You'll just have to accept that. It is actually a term popularised by Afro-Americans and also indigenous Australians. If they're happy with it so am I.
  2. When some privileged American Trump supporter with a megaphone, who appears to have never had a real job in her life, decides to drag my state's problems handling the COVID outbreak into her efforts to be a shill for her white supremacist political idol then I thought coconut was reasonably retrained. If I had expressed my actual feelings I suspect I would have been banned.
  3. Yep there's Craig Kelly (the Ivermectin Kid) and Clive Palmer's coal mine representative in the Federal parliament. But you left out the "circle of love" girl ex-Premier Gladys Berejiklian who not only unleashed the Ruby Princess passengers but also helped her then boyfriend MP Daryl Maguire's aspiration to make a couple of millions dollars at the taxpayer's expense. But at the moment there's not much to choose between the NSW Libs and the Victoria Libs. Our lot just recently reinstated Matthew Guy as leader despite him having convincingly lost the last election and still having to shake off his lobster lunch with the Capo of the local Mafia, and his Shadow Atty General (no law degree) Tim Smith has just had to resign that post because he blew .113 in a breathalyser on Saturday after hitting another car then crashing into a fence and house. Word is that he may be set to resign from Parliament. If our respective Liberals were a comedy act they be a sell out every night.
  4. Candace Owens is what is generally referred to as what is rather rudely, but absolutely correct, a "coconut". Makes a big deal of how she's an unoppressed black woman and refuses to be a victim yet supports 100% the far right white supremacist policies of the Trump MAGA crowd. Used to be one of the leaders of the Turning Point USA organization - the student wing of the MAGA movement. That American attack on Australian COVID responses came about because we have a couple of very far right podcaster "journalists" in Australia, based in Melbourne. The first is a a self professed Nazi named Avi Yemeni (of all things Jewish) who is a stringer for the Canadian far right alternate news source Rebel News. The second is a wedding photographer and son of a Sri Lankan refugee family called Rukshan Fernando who set himself up as another far right conservative. both have been happily feeding footage of the anti-vax demonstrations to Fox News in the US, which has resulted in it being picked up by the MAGA far right supporters in the US media like Candace Owens as well as politicians like Ted Cruz. The end result has been to give these anti-vaxxers far more importance than they enjoy here and also to give the Murdoch controlled media a stick to beat up our Labor government in Victoria. The response here to the anti-vaxxers has been largely to treat them as a bloody nuisance, but the Murdoch media which is strongly conservative has given them far more prominence than they really have.
  5. Our silly PM Scott Morrison is the leader of the Liberal Party. However the Liberal party's big problem is that they are in a coalition with the much smaller National Party (used to be the country party). Without the Nats as partners the Liberal party would be in the minority and thus couldn't form government. The Nationals went from representing the rural sector, mainly farmers, to being the representatives of the, guess what? coal miners. This is because the coal mining in Australia is in Queensland and northern NSW both areas of National Party seats. So the reality is that Scomo can't lower our emissions because if he does the obvious and attacks the problem at the source the Nats will use their numbers to destroy the Coalition Government. So in reality Australia is led not by the Liberal National Party Coalition (LNP) but by the minority Nationals. The Nats are profoundly anti-everything that has a whiff of science in it especially doing anything about climate change. Scomo claimed to have a plan to meet the 2050 target he'd present at the Glasgow meeting - the truth is that the plan is nothing but a complete surrender to the interests of the Nationals which puts us back where we have always been - pretending climate change isn't happening.
  6. We've had the same over here for what seems like an eternity. Now we're out of lockdown and approaching 80% double vaxxed the Freedumbers are protesting about new state laws that might help us control a future pandemic rather than stumbling along making unnecessary mistakes. Needless to say all these protests are coming from far right agitators of which we in Australia have seen a frightening growth in the last couple of years. Victoria which has had a quite successful and hard working Labor government for the last 8 years has been hardest hit by these idiots. Tomorrow is Melbourne Cup Day which is a public holiday and these morons are trying to assemble a large protest at that. We've just come out of a lockdown that's lasted since August and people just want to be out having fun and these far right b$stards are trying to ruin that just to protest about getting vaccinated. There are times when I wish COVID was a virus that had evolved to target the far right and their Nazi fellow travellers. Perhaps we would have not been locked down for such extended periods. My personal wish is that those who refuse to be vaccinated (without proof of medical reasons why they can't) and thus cannot be employed find that their unemployment benefits are refused. The last big lockdown was due to these idiots demonstrating in super spreader crowds. I am really tired of these people are their perpetual self-indulgent claims about their democratic rights - they don't have any sort of democratic right to spread disease.
  7. She'd served her time here so we sent old dear back to steal more fish
  8. Her in grey hat: "Bert, what do you mean, do I loik your new wheels? they're the same wheels you've always had on your boik" Bert: "They're new Oi tell yer! bran nue!! Oi had them made to match the old 'uns" Her in blue hat: "Oye Mavis, now you've done it!!!! Next Bert will be carrying on about how it's important in these small villages where the old traditional ways are being swamped by the onrush of the railways that we preserve our ancient traditions" Bert: "Yeah, there's that as well loik" Her in Grey Hat: "Bleeding local preservationists, next 'e'll be complaining about the Sqoire 'aving the wheels on his bleeding injin repainted" Bert: " 'E has? Why Oi am always the last to know when things is 'appenin' loik, what's 'e got it in for me for?" Her in Blue Hat: "Bert it's because yer 'aven't turned around in the last two years" Bert: "And Oim not goin to oither, minute Oi do you'll be off with moi best cod, Oi know all about you village wimmin!!!"
  9. That's my reading of it. Most people are aware that, besides the undeniable fact that he's what we call call a first rate example of a bottom feeding sewer rat, he's just a front man for Clive Palmer's efforts to feed preference votes to the Liberals to protect his mining interests. The censorship program, built into this forum, is preventing me from really expressing how I feel about these parasites except to say that ivermectin was designed with them in mind.
  10. To be frank it comes from the stupid/gullible gene which is present in far too many people. It's also known as the Confidence of Ignorance gene. It manifests itself in behaviour like "I think I know what this complicated stuff I never studied is all about so I'll act on my understanding". In America it's called the hold my beer gene. Put simply these people, by their very existence, are the greatest argument for a serious eugenics movement I can think of. I know it sounds like Nazi theology but sometimes one thinks perhaps .......
  11. You have my sympathy. The Delta strain is a real bastard. We've been locked down now for well over a month. The daily infection levels are rising despite the lockdown because it relies on idiots, of whom we have a selfish self-centred abundance of, to spread it. I am so heartily sick of their whining about having to wear masks or their "read it on the web" ideas that the vaccination will destroy their precious bodily fluids etc. views, that I wish the government just had the special powers to shoot the selfish dumb . On Saturday we had a full scale riot by about 150 if these idiots who were claiming that lockdown was infringing their rights etc. etc. Now we'll be seeing more cases of the Delta variant because of these idiots. We're now averaging around 500 a day and it's rising. Won't wear a mask, won't get vaccinated, their freedom of choice endangered etc. etc. All being fuelled by a billionaire named Clive Palmer (well known serial corporate crook in the Trump mould) who by buying an ex Liberal Party politician named Craig Kelly has formed the United Australia Party especially, it seems, to fight vaccination by pushing the ivermectin cure. This has all been seized on by far right demonstrators taking their cue from the neo-Nazi right wing in Europe to generally disrupt efforts to fight COVID and advance their neo-Nazi views. It's a witches brew of idiots, crooks and political opportunists on the right. Now because these Nazis have infiltrated the building unions the government which had allowed construction to continue has decided to shut it down for 2 weeks because of a small riot these Nazis threw today. That's thousands of workers who'll lose pay. And in case anyone failed to notice I am thoroughly pissed off with the . I just want this lockdown to end and these fools are stuffing it up for the vast majority of us in Victoria. What the hell is so difficult about wearing a mask and getting vaccinated. I've done it, and nearly 80% and rising of Victorians have done it, and these "people" just stuff it up for all of us.
  12. In legal terms could that be a case of "badgering the witness". Regardless of the nature of badgers in the follicle department we do have our own Hairy Nosed Wombat. Which are kind of cute.
  13. This talk of Whigs and Tories reminds why I like the novels of Anthony Trollope - his land owning traditional Whigs are so sympathetically drawn. I suppose that means at heart I'm a Whig. Which when you think about it is odd for an Australian, but totally appropriate because (pardon the pun) I'm as bald as a badger*. *I do know the etymology of Whig, just in case someone wants to correct me.
  14. Down here in the large antipodean counterweight to the northern hemisphere our politics is rapidly evolving a new two party system. On one side we have people in the "Queuing up to get the COVID Jab Party", while on the other we have the "Strident anti-vaxxer it's all a NWO plot to take away our basic freedom to have our breathing fatally compromised Party". The amount of misinformation about miracle deworming paste cures being spouted by the latter is in direct proportion to the amount of personal research each spouter has published, i.e. "I googled this obscure doctor in Botswana who says "blah blah blah" so the injections are all a blatant attempt to "blah blah blah" by Big Government, Big Pharma and Satan to sabotage our precious bodily fluids etc. etc." So far we are still in lockdown because of a surge in Delta cases in our northern suburbs because the people in these suburbs are refusing to get vaccinated. The rest of us who don't actually buy the stuff about our essential bodily fluids being irreparably damaged seem not to be getting it. So what does this tell us. Well if you believe the antivaxxers it's because we're nothing but mindless sheep. It's enough to drive one to drink, but it's a little early. So instead I'll just say "BAA BAA"
  15. Yes but that was when "Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves ..... " And if you didn't like it they'd send a gumboot to sort you out. Now things have changed a little ......
  16. Mrs Farmer: "But Bert I've just vacuumed the shed and dusted the shelves" Mr Farmer: "But dear it's the tractor shed!!!" Mrs Farmer: "Yes dear but it was so dirty, and why did you have to get the tractor so muddy and dirty after you promised to take more care?" Mr Farmer: "Ummmm.....Dear that's what 'appens to tractors, they get dirty" Mrs Farmer: "If you say so Bert, but the WI was talking about it ..... and they're such gossips"
  17. Now that's an interesting wagon. Of the door less type I see. Were they for transporting the vacuums used in vacuum braking systems?
  18. First Sheep: "Baaaah!!!" Second Sheep: "Baaahh!!!" Third Sheep: "What are you two old miseries complaining about now?"
  19. BBC Farm Report Here is an item just in from our reporter in Little Muddle. "A local farmer has installed Klieg lights over his small piggery. When asked the farmer said that he is experimenting to find out if sleepless pigs eat more and grow fatter quicker. His wife said in a separate interview that if he doesn't stop his insane mad scientist lark she will feed him to the pigs. We will keep listeners apprised of further developments"
  20. I can't find the video, but there was one posted on YouTube of a chap who was at the range target shooting. A round misfired and instead of pointing the rifle in a safe direction for a minute and then opening the bolt and ejecting the round he did something else. He muttered a few brief expletives slammed the butt on the ground and looked down the barrel. There was a bang and the chap fell over backwards swearing, moaning, screaming and holding his face. Once his friends had pried loose his hands they discovered he'd been extremely lucky. The only damage was in the bill of his cap where the bullet and gone through which, in the process, just missed his nose. Physical damage was limited to some face blackening and light burns from powder residue and presumably an urgent need for an underwear change. Darwin developed the scientific understanding of why such people rarely go on to reproduce. The anti-vaxxers put me in mind of such people.
  21. On my Twitter feed I received a Tweet regarding an incident where the leader of the Proud Boys in Portland, Oregon apparently shot himself in the foot while walking somewhere. His name is (I kid you not) "Tiny" Toese. He is Samoan and is fairly large. Tiny apparently is his nickname, although it may well be a description by now as well. In the depths of lockdown we need all the humour we can get.
  22. Foreman: "Oi Alf, what yer readin'? Alf: "That bloke 'uxley's latest book" Foreman: "What's it called then?" Alf: "The Doors of Perception". Foreman: "That the one where he talks about smokin' strange things?" Alf: "Yeah, I've just found out why this bleedin' door is unhinged"
  23. And just to think in 60 years time one of those will fit in your hand ....... Geez building and running a model railway back then was a mammoth undertaking.
  24. Indeed, but long recognised. It's called cognitive dissonance. We are capable of holding two mutually exclusive views at the same time and we seem to do it with apparent ease. It's probably what stops us from succumbing to the age old phenomenon of "paralysis though analysis" i.e. overthinking outcomes at the real risk of preventing any possible necessary remedial action from being carried out. We like to pretend that we act for the best carefully weighing options - what we actually do is follow the natural imperative which is act to preserve ourselves first. The video of a future world with pre-programmed drones carrying out search and destroy missions is little different to the world we have now where for reasons either political or religious people kill without compunction. Essentially there is no difference between a Nazi concentration camp official sorting newly arrived inmates into those of work value and those for immediate death because of age or infirmity, and a modern jihadist suicide bomber walking into a crowd and detonating an explosive vest. The one small thing in the favour of the AI drone is that it can be more precisely targeted. But then all three, the concentration camp official, the jihadist and the drone are through either training, indoctrination or programming responding to outside decisions based on the ethical ideas of their employers. Their employers are us humans and that's where cognitive dissonance comes in. How we handle that is down to how much we are prepared to honestly assess what it is to be human, and I'm not terribly convinced that we can overcome the strength of our innate genetic imperative to achieve that wisdom.
