Hello,
Port Carlisle MK1 was on RMweb previously as a semi portable 10'x9' layout of a fictitious location on the WCML in the back bedroom.
When not in use 4 baseboards were portable and stored above and below the fiddle yard so the bedroom and bed could still be used as normal when not 'playing trains'.
Ok in theory but the bed down the middle of the room became a real obstacle when erecting and operating the layout.
So a re-think was in order and after removing the wardrobe from the room and eliminating the fiddle yard a better layout has been achieved but still keeping the original idea of a terminus station with continuous running.
The layout is now permanent along the scenic sections with a lifting section at the doorway and 1 removable baseboard above the bed, the station and 2 sidings now occupy where the fiddle yard was located and a 4 road stabling point occupies where the wardrobe was.
Layout control is the excellent NCE Powercab with USB interface, point control is achieved through JMRI via seep point motors powered by DCC Concepts solenoid point decoders making route switching a doddle!View of the station throat, platforms are a work in progress and require a final coat of textured paint, the 'wonky' lights are not secured yet.Port Carlisle's 4 platform terminus station, the 2 lines in the foreground are the continuous run round the room, the 2 lines in the background are a postal storage siding and a cement terminal siding.47535 departs Port Carlisle with a trans-pennine express and passes the stabling point. The 2 lines in the foreground are the storage run round loops that allow loco hauled trains to run round and return to Port Carlisle's terminus station.
Hope to get lots more done during the lockdown.
Cheers for now.
