  1. If you want sound and accessories then you will be better off with a more expensive controller, it depends if you want touch screen or physical buttons and knobs. I use a nce powercab and oldie but good for what I want others talk about is the z21 you will get lots of different options if you can go to a shop that has a selection you can try to see what fits you best.
  2. According to the bachman paperwork F15 function cycles through 5 different volume levels. Give this a try you can access this easy with a powercab.
  3. Ok thanks, guess I'll have to put up with what I got as computer help is out of the question. Pity they didn't make this standard for some of the main functions.
  4. Hi Can anyone point me in the right direction for a idiots guide to function mapping. I have some sound decoders but I want to try to standardise some of the sounds so the all use the same button eg. Guards whistle is on F9,F10,and F18 on different decoders. I did change the different horns some time ago but not button assignment and for the life of me can't remember how I did it or where I looked to find out. Any help will be appreciated Thanks Roger
  5. If as you say you are using kits that you are going to have to wire your self then I don't think there would be any problems, all you are doing is wiring opposite to the instructions to get it to work your way.
  6. I'd like to know how you get on with the upgrade and how easy it is.
  7. Thanks Google kept coming up blank and l m Must have missed them on the spare website.
  8. Hi guy's Can someone point me in the right direction to get hand rail and hand rail knobs for my steam locos in N gauge. Thanks Roger
  9. I asked last year if he had a conversion for this as mine has a dodgy motor that over heats and cuts out, it has never been very good. I'll have to order one soon.
  10. Zimo also do a kit with all wires attached and a stay alive with it. I think it is a staco 2 .
  11. Hi can anyone tell me if the class 31 with a 6pin decoder is the same chassis as the version with the next18 decoder Thx Roger
  12. Hi guy's Does anyone know if it is possible to swap the motherboard pcb over from 6pin to next18 ,are the chassis the same?. All help appreciated.
  13. Ok so I do N gauge and most views are from above. Some locos have chimneys with holes while some are blocked which is plainly visible. Would you drill them out to look better or leave them and would it affect resale value?. I am in too minds what to do. Thx Roger
  14. There should be a wiring diagram on the installation sheet, the negative is where the stripe is on the gold capIf you search for instructions on line the zimo web site should help.
  15. To read CV you need to have the powercab in the program track mode, you can switch to this quite easy but if you do not have a dedicated program track no other locos can be on your layout. Make sure the track is clean , sometimes depending on the loco you can just add some down ward pressure to make sure of good contact.
  16. Ok thanks I'll take a look I have a wrecked b 17 I might look at that too
  17. Ok thanks but something I should have clarified is that I don't have a pc or laptop to configure a router so is it still possible with just a smartphone?.
  18. Ok guys Can I set up a WiFi network with out it being connected to the internet,so I could connect a camara or door bell to my phone when at home or in the shed or other WiFi enabled items and off so how?. Pretty simple terms as not really Tec savvy. Thanks Roger
  19. What ever you had your locomotive number it stays with the decoder so you should be able to use any DCC controller. The only thing you can't do with the powercab is mix short and long number locomotive. The powercab is a very good system.
  20. After reading this post I went to Aldi and bought one , I have used it to grind down some cast details and being small and compact and best of all cordless it works just fine for me. No more attacking other parts of my model with a cord just to drill a couple of small holes
  21. I tried cutting them not a great success, they do work sometimes but not reliable. I found it takes a lot of time and patience to get them to work correctly every time and the weight of the wagons or coaches is a factor too. You need enough weight to keep the wagon still while the locomotive uncoupled.
  22. Hi all I just received what I think was a good deal on a well known auction site. In N gauge I got 2x tea 100t tankers 1x lner teak brake coach 1x post office full brake coach 1x lms brake van 1x lms refrigerator van 1x tank wagon All for the princely sum of £42 including the post. Ok so they are not brand spanking new but with a little weathering and from the distance they will be viewed at they will make a good addition and it's recycling. So what bargains have you got.
  23. Thanks for the idea,it wasn't something I thought of but worth looking into.
