  1. Sorry i should have explained, im new to this and have no experiance of kit built items. I really want to build a kit but figure if i cant repair this i cant build a loco. I dont know what wheels they are.
  2. Hello everyone, I was not sure where to post this as asking for advice really. I bought a kit built J11 a while ago and it has a couple of problems. It has a short somewhere that i need to find, hope its not the motor but the main question is the wheel bolt holding the coupling/ driving gear rods has broken off. Are these a standard part that i can buy or is it a bit more complicated than that? I dont know who made the model or the manufacturer. I really want to repair this model as its a lovely thing and i need to do it justice. Thanks Paul.
  3. A really awesome layout that, very nice.
  4. I tried to model the embankment as if it was built on existing sloping farmland as the real location. It takes up a lot of space.
  5. I have ordered a set of the Lifecolor paints and will give it a go. If it looks half as good as yours i will post up a picture. Really like the E1 Class kit build, looking forward to seeing that painted. Thanks again for the tips. Paul.
  6. Hi Barry, kind words thank you. My Farther built me a GWR oval layout when i was growing up in Salisbury, we moved to Blandford when i was ten and i became fascinated with the closed railway. My first job was at Intasco at Shillingstone station in 1986, i used to eat my sandwiches on the platform. When i started the loft layout i tried to cram to much stuff in and as the layout extended, came to realise that old saying "less is more" is always true. Paul.
  7. Thank you for sharing this. i will have a go at weathering the 4mt but may ask for some advice if thats ok? i like paint brushes as well, look forward to a photo. Thank you Paul.
  8. Lovely looking models, I also am impressed with Bachmanns details, great locos as a starting point. I have a almost 20 year old Bachmann 4MT tank that ive started running again recently. Its really nice and deserves some attention, maybe weathered etc, but i dont know where to start.
  9. I dont know what the markings mean either im afraid, i had assumed an "x" would mean empty. I hope someone on here knows the answer.
  10. I love the blog section of RM, so many tips to pick up. I have liked the chalk markings on detailed wagons but was unsure how to achieve it. After reading this i went up in the loft armed with a ordinary white pencil and had a go, perfect result. Thanks for the tip. Paul.
  11. Stourpaine and Durweston halt opened in 1928 and closed in 1956. It was on a single main line. A passing loop was situated about half a mile North of the platform, I have used modellers license and put the passing loop at the platform (ducks for cover). Most of the halt still remains being on private land. The model is made from Plasikard and the platform supports and running in board from Dart Castings. I had to drill 96 x 0.4mm holes for the 0.33mm fence wire, still lots to do and i learnt one thing from my first sort of scratch build, i think i may need glasses.
  12. I see the new Bachmann Wickham trollys were released yesterday in plain green or BR maroon, whats the best one for the SDJR? circa 50s/ 60s?
  13. Been reading up on a fogmans job, sounds a very unpleasant one to me. I had a look at the order of the photos on my camera and it must have been pretty close to the signal base southwards.
  14. Cheers Jack, I ordered some of those Scale Link SDJR signs today, they look great, I would never have found those. Paul.
  15. Well in that case you knew the signal box i was talking about. Its a good model.
  16. My apologies, i meant the platform signal box on the SR main line to London, still it would make a good model and have SDJR trains next to it, 2 in fact one at each end, even better.
  17. Nice. A few more that i have noticed are, 1. Bachmann or Wills kits provander store similer to the ones that used to be at Shillingstone. 2. Metcalfe foot bridge, a bit like the one at Broadstone. 3. Bachmann art deco signal box like Templecombe. 4. Dapol lattice SR signals. 5, Dart Castings range of SR concrete lineside. 6, Peco concrete platform edges like Charlton Marshall halt and others. Great Idea for a blog page Jack. Paul.
  18. Some nice pictures of early Spetisbury here. https://spetisburystationproject.wordpress.com/archive-photos/ Im not saying thats the location and sorry if the link has been posted elsewhere, i just thought it might be of interest.
  19. Got a new phone the other day, crikey it takes good photos. It has a depth of field mode, not bad at all for a £100.
  20. Thank you Railwest and becasse, your knowledge has been of great help. Im now going to model these items, now i know what they are. EDIT, Its wonderful to get answers to 60 year old plus questions, this is a wonderful forum full of great people.
  21. Thanks so much, one last one then. This was South of the signal base at Shillingstone.
  22. The section of the line around Fiddleford i found interesting, about a mile ish South of Sturminster Newton. Evidence of a stone wall next to the track and drainage. I didnt think there was anything around that part, maybe added later.
  23. The steps just lead to a field that is sometimes used as a tent camp site.
  24. That was interesting, very knowledgeable posters on here thank you RailWest. If i may continue, can anyone tell me what this is? It is located about a mile North of Shillingstone seemingly in the middle of nowhere.
