  1. After a winter break I have started on Blandford again. Been soldering drop wires and laying more track to the South of the station. Going to start powering up tomorrow to begin test running, going to be lots of problems to sort out I'm sure. Better to rebuild anything now rather than later. This is looking south with the horse box siding to the left, entry to the goods shed, up and down platform tracks and the coal siding to the right near the station building. Coal siding with catch point. Also started on Salisbury road bridge. Modelled the buffer stop on the one currently preserved by the iron bridge / beginning of the trailway today. Thanks for looking.
  2. Hi Hayfield. I must admit, I gave up on the stainless steel rail, you are all correct, I won't buy any more. Starting a small EM gauge soldered construction track plan at the moment, the loft is a bit cold, so this is being built in the living room. Ready to start laying the sleepers but unsure where to start laying the track. I guess the common crossing is the best place. I plan to glue the sleepers down and then cut the breaks with a Dremmel Any advice from anyone would be welcome. Thanks
  3. Have just found this thread after seeing the BRM video on YouTube. Thought your interview was very good, down to earth and honest. @checkrail I am building a similar loft layout at the moment, hope it turns out as nice as yours. Now I am going to read the whole thread. Paul.
  4. You can join the EMGS for £25 a year, and you get access to the online shop, not just the jigs that are a bargain.
  5. Hi Railwest, I have no proof, but I thought the sidings might have something to do with the line being single Northbound from Blandford. Maybe for goods trains to allow passenger stock priority. It must have got quite busy at times with Blandford being a bottleneck. Just a guess.
  6. Got anew spell checker thing. So everything I say should make sense from now on.

      Yeah, it’s a pity there isn’t a context checker as well as a spell checker. That might help pick up using a correctly-spelled word that isn’t actually the one you want, like my “singed” instead of “signed” above.
      I blame the English language for having a spelling system that doesn’t correspond very well to the sounds of the language.

      Yes. My particular bête noir is 'form' instead of 'from'.

      The English Language will get around to it eventually, consider Chaucers "Canterbury Tales" and anything from Shakespeare.

      Mind you, I think the prologue from the "tales" is pretty understandable, even now...  ;)

      Whan that Aprill, with his shoures soote
      The droghte of March hath perced to the roote
      And bathed every veyne in swich licour,
      Of which vertu engendred is the flour;
      Whan Zephirus eek with his sweete breeth
      Inspired hath in every holt and heeth
      The tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne
      Hath in the Ram his halfe cours yronne,
      And smale foweles maken melodye,
      That slepen al the nyght with open eye
      (So priketh hem Nature in hir corages);
      Thanne longen folk to goon on pilgrimages
      And palmeres for to seken straunge strondes
      To ferne halwes, kowthe in sondry londes;
      And specially from every shires ende
      Of Engelond, to Caunterbury they wende,
      The hooly blisful martir for to seke
      That hem hath holpen, whan that they were seeke.

  7. I have this problem with a bag I bought of an auction site, extremely brittle. Have been using them for half chairs, I will give the hot water tip a try. Thank you.
  8. After spending the last 9 months annoying everybody over on the hand built track and Templot forum, the newest part of my loft layout is coming together at last. Most of the track is held down by screws for testing while some turnouts are already glued into place. I have used Peco bull head flexi with turnouts made from EMGS track parts and jigs. A lot of fine adjustments will need to be made I am sure of that. I will update my thread "Goods train at Blandford" down in the basement that is the Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway Group from time to time as it seems the best place for it. Finally, after many years of wanting to build Blandford Forum I have started. A bit of a rubbish picture but cant do multilayer shots so out of focus. Thank you for looking. Paul.
  9. I took this picture at Shillingstone in Dorset, July of this year. I know nothing about the history of this Ruston shunter. Great looking little loco.
  10. I really do despair at articles like this. Plenty of other great cycleways to use in Dorset. He could go to Blandford and cycle the Trailway . If he wants, he can stop and wonder at what old steam trains used to run through here.
  11. They are so good the bloke in the last picture has fainted. Stunning stuff, really nice.
  12. Great looking locos. I have not taken much notice of these before, but you can see they were built to last with I presume standard parts, simple running gear and a huge tender. A real workhorse. Great photos thanks for posting them. Paul.
  13. I would like to see a Q1 on the layout as "noted" at Dorchester.
  14. Going to glue in the first track for Blandford tomorrow, it's the small coal siding off the up line near the iron bridge. Its taken me a while to build this track with a trap point. I made a few mistakes with the A5 curviform turnout and had to take it apart to rectify the issues. I had not filed the switch blades enough causing the trains to jump around a bit.
  15. Don't you hate it when the facts get in the way of a good model railway? Amazing research @RFS. I struggle to find locos that run south from Templecombe in the 60s.
  16. Really nice. Reminds me of my late fathers garage workshop, even the kettle and dodgey flue work.
  17. Email from Rails, 1P has been posted.
  18. I notice Rails have taken payment for my pre-order this morning.
  19. The steel rail is not very nice to file and bends very easy when working on it but, managed to solder one together on some brass strip. Did not aim for any accuracy here, just to see if I could do it. Soldered the frog feed on, might give this a go on plastic chairs and sleepers.
