  1. Ah! but do you know what the two small doors in the end compartment are for?
  2. And how many clock faces in one image? I like it, as you say very clear with so much detail to look at. Philip
  3. Well, having worked my way through over 400 of the 800+ images listed as Carlisle Station I was certain that there was no clock on the South end. Lots of internal clocks but could not find a definitive image to confirm. Then up popped one showing the clock on the North end. And another. Followed by details of the clock. Eventually a very early image of the South end that to me confirms there never was one there. Hope these help.
  4. Only met Dave the once but it was in the Price of Wales, Foxfield, where we enjoyed some excellent Real Ale together. He was more than happy to have a craic with anybody that felt like a chat. He could have had a full glass all night and not have to pay for any refills but he paid his own way. A true local who loved the people and place he was from. I still enjoy watching the repeats of the early programmes he made. Rest Easy Dave.
  5. Stick with analoge control (DC). You can always upgade to DCC when you win the lottery, unless some people still do the pools, if they exist?
  6. I use French polish to hold my ballest in place. Does dry with a sheen though, but weathering can fix that. A drop of methylated spirit soon frees it up (good ventilation required and no smoking). I lifted all the track on the first Aspatria and only damaged a couple of pieces. I always found PVA difficult to lift but then at the time I was using quality rather than the very cheap and thin stuff that is avaiable nowadays. At Workington MRE I actually had to move a couple of bits of track because the floor at the venue was so level compared to where I'd built the layout and it really showed.
  7. Paul My apologies. I'd looked at the main admin page and it seemed okay. Further down the page it said 'out of stock' hence you getting the message to call. Amended and should all be okay now. Only thing is I'll have to try and get the proverbial and ensure all the parts are in stock, should be but the way things have been going lately you never know!
  8. What is it? It is the last remaining Carlisle Tram body. Part of a double decker. It was in the process of being moved out of the undercroft after the British Legion tried to burn the station down! Avanti panicked and those groups they could force out had to leave in a hurry. The tram body is at present in Dentonholme, but has to find another new home in the very near future. Not certain if that will be possible this time round. Covid, family issues and lack of time has stalled its restoration! Mike - regarding the glass tiles in the ceiling. Yes they used to allow light down. When you walk along platfrom three you will see new concrete blocks, with metal rods going up to the roof. These were installed when the glass roof was replaced with a plastic German one. They are to stop the roof blowing off! The glass tiles were coverd over during the work. Did you get to see the cattle troughs under platform one? Did they tell you aout the two other tunnels beneath the station?
  9. Paul The kit is available. Back then we couldn't get any chassis sides milled but have since sourced a manufacturer. All kits on the site are available unless marked otherwise. Philip
  10. Mike should wake up to an inbox with a few interesting files. I'll leave it to him to decide which he wants to post after he has had a chance to digest everything! Philip
  11. What sort of wagon bodies were you thinking of making? What material were you looking at for finished product? Philip
  12. Must be a nice feeling to be making progress after so long away from the right thing!
  13. Ooooo that looks promising. Thinking of all the people who turned up at Workington MRE this year it was actually a brilliant weekend. Wore out three sets of gears in different locos, so was very thin on the ground come Sunday afternoon. Turns out the problem was steel worms on brass cogs, which were out of alignement. Not my doing! Anybody need some brass shavings? I've got lots of repair work to do before I even think of moving forwards, especially to get some more coaches, that might come from a very nice person who I met at the show for the first time!
  14. Pity you didn't make it to Workington, as it was their model railway exhibiton weekend and a great time was had by all. Unfortunately no S7 as I'm not aware of any layouts within a reasnable distance that could be invite, apart from MarcD who had a finescale 7mm layout present, unless of course you do. Philip
  15. A very good turnout from the publc today so here's hoping for an increase tomorrow as well. Lots of networking with fellow M&CR modellers, too many to mention by name, and some excellent models were to be seen, even some very nice Furness ones as well! Aspatria was on its first outing since a rebuild was started many years ago, which was paused due to health and family issues, but in the last few months great strides have been made. The incentive now is to get some etched coaches in O gauge, so that the stock levels can increase. A couple more locomotives, that will run, is a must as well. Thanks to CKPR and Citadel for their kind words and lots of encouragement. Philip
  16. CKPR will have the answer on the tip of his tounge. I'll have to dig into the records first.
  17. CK&PR is hoping to come to the show so he will be very interesyed in your progress. I'll be the one with a bright yellow shirt and shorts! Makes it easy for people to find me.
  18. Must be time to go back to the Maryport & Carlisle stock! If you are coming to Workington MRE on 18 & 19 Nov then please bring them along for us to look at! 7mm stock can have a run throigh Aspatria, if I get things working !

  20. A Loaded Carriage Truck in 7mm Bob Essery, Mike Peascod, Nelson Twells Issue 7 (1986) p.87 7mm Having already expounded on the attraction of Edwardian railways - not to mention the problems of portraying them accurately - Bob Essey joins fellow LMS Society members Nelson Twells and Mike Peascod and gets down to work. Bob built the truck, Nelson the pantechnicon and Mike did the drawing. Construction of a MR 20 ton Open Carriage Truck (Lot 551) conveying a furniture removal pantechnicon (horse-drawn furniture removal van).
  21. Chauldron Wagons were to be found on several lines in West Cumberland. There are several photographs where they appear, usually in the backgound, but there is one with a large train at Workington docks. The Maryport & Carlisle Railway had their own and photographs show them at High Blaithwaite, on the Bolton Loop, which would see them run to Aspatria, thence to Maryport Docks. They used them until the grouping on their mainline. Certain locomotives could haul up to 100 loaded 3 ton ones from Aspatria to Maryport, all downhill, but not much breaking!!! They lasted so long in the area as the colliery owners were not prepared to spend money on new loading facilities, that would have allowed larger wagons to be used.
