  1. The other Class 08s I’ll be working through, the Railfreight loco will be sorted out I.e. the sparrow removed then a Transrail T logo applied, with the Intercity loco just being weathered to a light work stained condition.
  2. I’ve taken delivery of a number of Dapol Class 08s, one of which is in EWS colours. unfortunately the scheme isn’t correct for the majority of the locos, black cab roof and yellow exhaust pot really stood out so I’ve decided to use my new found airbrush confidence by correcting it. Here is the process of masking in preparation, painting and the finished product - once the loco is dry I’ll be applying some weathering and numbers etc.
  3. Courtybella Road Model Railway Raw Update: More landform cut and secured into place to form the River Wye gorge, this will follow the same process as the tunnel area - once dry it’ll be covered in plaster, then painted ready for scenic material.
  4. Rail Express Systems Brake van practice project: First coat of varnish applied, handrails and final touching up still to complete.
  5. Yes still diecast to the original lionhesrt spec.
  6. Rail Express Systems Brake Van Practice Project. Under frame black applied, small bits touched up on the body. I’ll leave to dry then apply a coat of varnish, before I pick out the handrails in white. All in all I’m pretty pleased with the van, for a first go I’m happy.
  7. Rail Express Systems Brake Van Practice Project. Masked up ready for the under frame spray of black.
  8. Rail Express Systems Brake Van Practice Project. The little bits that needed touching up have been, touched up. Hand applied the RES red on the frame under the end concrete weights. I’ll leave to throughly dry overnight before spraying the running frame black, then I’ve got to pick out the white handrails which will be fun!
  9. Rail Express Systems Brake Van Practice Project. Basic core colours applied, a little bleed and some touching up required. But, for a first job it’s not bad I don’t think. I still need to paint the under frame and ends before transfers, which I need to buy.
  10. Rail Express Systems Brake Van Practice Project. Rail Express Systems grey applied to the top half of the vehicle, now to leave to dry overnight. In the picture it appears very very dark, but in real life it’s a good match to my eye. Then carefully remove the masking to reveal a perfect border between the red and grey....hmmmmi
  11. Rail Express Systems Brake Van Practice Project Update: The bottom half of the van in RES red has dried nicely, so I’ve masked off the border point between the red and grey elements.
  12. Rail Express Systems Brake Van Practice Project Update: Please note, the vehicle won’t be a 100% accurate model as I’m told there are many different aspects which the base Dapol model doesn’t have. So this is a representation of the real vehicle, it’s more a paint shop test / practice than a proper rebuild. Primer dried nice and hard, I’ve applied a single coat of RES red on the bottom half of the vehicle. Once it’s dried I’ll put another coat on as it’s still a little on the light side. Now to spend 20 minutes cleaning the airbrush after 5 minutes use...

Factory details striped in pure alcohol with a little water, left to bath for 48hrs and left go dry after a good wash in soapy water.
  15. Courtybella Road Model Railway Update: Icing on the cake covered with chocolate. Polystyrene blocks secured in place, plaster covered, painted brown to form a base colour. I’ll glue a layer of scatter next, then add static grass and trees etc
  16. The Class 56 is definitely a Heljan project unfortunately due to cost, Dapol have the 66 due perhaps in 2021 at a much more reasonable price.
  17. Courtybella Road Model Railway Update: Ive also started on the landscaping hills above Courtybella Tunnel using sculpture mould, great stuff once you work out the correct method of mixing it. Next job is to shape the polystyrene on the station side of the river, and river cutting.
  18. Courtybella Road Model Railway Update: The big news is the arrival of another building for Courtybella Road Station, in the form of ex Talywain Station building, which joins the waiting shelter and tunnel mouth.
