Dapol HAA to CDA: patch paint or full repaint?

I've got a few HAAs I want to convert to CDAs using Skytrex parts - the cradles will obviously need repainting and I'm wondering whether to patch paint them or strip the whole thing down and start over masking up the cradles. Not quite sure how to prep the cradles for patch painting, but I want a good finish. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks!
