  1. Thankyou nick for the pm, With regards to space and sizing of the layout, I can only work with the space that I have available but may be able to go up to another foot in width. I am sure that many others have created an interesting layout in a similar area as not everyone has acres of room. I am sure that I will get there in the end, your help in any form would be very much apreciated. John.
  2. Sound advice and thankyou guys, please keep it comming. I have allowed room to be able to work from both sides but I totally agree space is limited in this scale. Unfortunately my hands are quite poorly from an illness so the size of things in o gauge are important for me to work with. I have given some thought to the o guage guild and will most likely join. Genuinely look forward to hearing more from you. Thankyou. John.
  3. I am a total novice and newbie to railway modelling after a lot of research and searching l have spent the last few weeks modelling a number of buildings in preparation for my attempt at a layout. I have reached a point where I need to decide on the track work but am struggling to come up with any sort of layout plan. I am hoping that you experienced guys will point me at least some way in the right direction. I have an indoor area which will allow me to build a layout 22 feet by 4 or 5 feet wide. I would like to build something which when completed will keep me intrigued and occupied. My main interest lies in steam from around 1920 and gwr. I want to incorporate a country station, goods depot, engine shed, signal box etc and eventually extend to include a small village. Your help and advice on the layout of trackwork to create something fictitious but interesting would be invaluable. Hoping you can help. John.
  4. Thankyou for the advise, still looking if any one has anything. Working to a budget but good price paid. John.
  5. Hi Phillip. Good to hear from you. It is O guage that I am looking for sorry I should have made that clearer. John.
  6. You have been a great help guys thankyou so much for the advise, I will keep you posted on my progress. Thanks a million. John.
  7. I am new to O guage model rail and am looking for a good usable 3 rail 12v dc locomotive and tender to run on my old Hornby track. I would also be interested in carriages and figures. I am working on a budget so not hugely expensive items. Any help would be very much apreciated. John.
  8. More advice please. What make and model controller would you recommend, I am running 3 rail on the old Hornby track my locomotives are 12 and 20 volt. Thanks yet again. John.
  9. Thankyou guys for the advise, I am busy reading up on how to wire it all up thanks to your input. I am sure that I will need lots more help further down the line. Very much appreciated thankyou. Steamshed.
  10. Thanks guys much apreciated, can you point me in the direction of suppliers single yellow led s. Ref the resistors are these per room/building and do they vary in size. Told you I am stumped when it comes to wiring however I definately need understand it including separate switches per building etc, haven't got a clue.
  11. I am completely new to railway modelling and electrics completely baffle me so rather than just dive in and make mistakes I would like to ask for your help and advice. I have gone for o guage mainly due to its lovely scale and detailing. I have been busy constructing some of the buildings that I plan to use on my layout and want to incorporate interior lighting and eventually exterior lighting. Advise please. What is the best form of lighting to use to give a normal interior light effect? How do I wire it all together as I extend the number of buildings? (a sketch or drawing in basic terminology would be so helpful) Would the exterior lighting on the layout be connected with interior lighting wiring? I should add that this is an indoor layout using 3 rail stock and tack. Your help will be very much apreciated. John.
