  1. If you are modelling wagons that aren't vacuum braked, they don't have the tiebars between the axles.

    EBay madness

There's a character limit to eBay titles, so I suppose they couldn't fit in "fitted with wheels that aren't quite as bloody awful as the original plastic ones"
  3. Probably someone else can confirm, but weren't they designed by the GWR and adopted by BR as a standard design? Nowhere near my books at the moment.
  4. Any landing that you can walk away from....
  5. Thanks @Northroader, that would be an interesting model to reproduce in plastic using the card kit as a blueprint, as I once did with a Prototype Models Watlington goods shed. I think that someone could reintroduce those in a 21st century upgrade. We have, as usual, gone down an avoiding line, this time into railway archaeology. I rather enjoy modifying plastic kits or simply using the parts for semi scratch builds. Much hacking about. Created the signal box that watches over Aston.
  6. It will be interesting to see this lorry come together, they were one of the first all steel cab over engine designs and quite advanced in 1950. Add to that my memories of pulling out the hedge people love to hate with one. 😀
  7. A bit of digging re The Railway Signal Company, turned up Appleby, Lincs, built for the MS&LR, (Later Great Central) I think that we have a winner. http://www.appleby-lincs.co.uk/features/appleby-signal-box/ Photo: English Heritage from the above article

    EBay madness

Possibly the reason it was never finished.
  9. That's most unfortunate, hopefully you will be able to make good fairly soon and not have to resort to a modern image Buxton train shed. At first glance I thought you had suffered from sun warpage.

    EBay madness

It would have been interesting on curves! Or how about going 009 and fitting a modified 4-6-6-4 artic chassis under it? 😉
  11. In a related matter, and I never thought I would be saying it - I have glued the leg back onto a sheep....
  12. Ex army Bedford 4wd is the best answer to leylandii...
  13. That's a very nice looking signal box, I presume it's resin cast? At £75 though I'll be sticking with my own creations. I did a little more digging around and found the lower of the two newspaper pictures on Flickr, credited to a Steve King. Amongst the comments was a reply suggesting that the box was made by The Railway Signal Company, London and Liverpool. Anyone know for sure?
  14. I bought a set of those after you posted about detailing the old Hornby 2721. The cab front is a bit unusual on the Beyer Peacock, we fitted grilles to the rear windows.
  15. It seems quite common that one or more is missing from secondhand locos, that said, they were some of the first generation of superdetailed models so a little fragility is expected.
  16. Sorry about the thread hog Graham, but here's a link to the unveiling of the model.
  17. Some more up to date pictures from the Wiltshire Gazette and Herald, 2020. It looks like there's still a fair amount of GWR stone paint still adhering to the woodwork.Of course, it's not a Great Western pattern of signal box. Does anyone know which company supplied it?
  18. I can't take all the credit, the body was drawn up and printed by Chris @chuffinghellto fit a machined down later model Hornby Jinty chassis rather than the completely remade Bachmann chassis he had built. It was an engineering and design project that came out of conversation around an old RM article on converting a Triang loco and the lack of any RTR locos that represent absorbed engines. Plus an 0-4-4T is not a common thing in the GWR! The rear wheels were swapped to the centre axle to get rid of the traction tyres and eight wheel pickups were fitted for reliable running. There's a full narrative and pictures on both the Warren Branch and Aston on Clun threads covering both variants. We've both ended up with an unusual model that rule #1 states was pensioned off to a back of beyond branch line and survived another fifteen years or so rather than ending up in Swindon dump in 1930.
  19. Transfers needed too. When I can find them!
  20. Thanks, I found it was easiest to behd the main curve first and work outwards. Number 23 is up and running but still needs finishing below the footplate.
  21. That's a very nice looking kit, I've had the privilege (?) of driving the militarised RL version, those tiny cab doors are an experience even for an average sized person. It would (literally) pull up trees though.
  22. Loco is looking much more realistic and the old model holds up well with a little effort don't you think? As for smokebox darts, you have my sympathies! Ping tray anyone?

    Little Muddle

Because you know it should be. Because it's there. Because you can.
  24. That would appear to be a 175cc two stroke BSA model D7 Bantam Super from about 1960 onwards in that style. I think that 1966 was the last year, when it was replaced by the D10. Well spotted!
