  1. Great job on the villa, it looks very precise and accurate.

As others have said, woodwork is more likely to be green, brown or blue.

I remember years back some random discussion with my father about his parent's house which was built 1896. Back in the forties it had mid green doors, window frames and barge boards, with cream door panels and window sashes.

Next door where my grandfather's brother lived was brown with gold/tan trim. Neither had been painted since before the war and remained in sombre colours until the early sixties when they were modernised with indoor bathrooms.

White paint began replacing dark wood in the interior of upper middle class houses around 1900, but it was pretty uncommon as the main exterior colour on ordinary houses until the sixties.

  2. Perhaps the most disturbing part of that listing is that the seller states that it's "Number one in an ongoing project".

Number one? I'm of the same impression as @PMW, it looks more like a Number Two...

Bit of an odd one, why* include some photos with other (not for sale) units in the picture? Especially when they are more prominent than the actual item being sold!

    * Apart from possibly "look what I have"!

Perhaps fishing for offers on the other items on view?

Or promoting his other items for sale?

The pictures for all of which are dismal and inspire zero bidder confidence, such as this lot - pro weathered?

  4. In the "More like this" section below that listing, there's a fair selection of other dust catchers for around the £30 mark, with several listed as "last one!"

Soon it will be car boot sale season again and they'll be able to restock at £2-£5 apiece ready for the Christmas rush...

  5. Twelve watchers apparently as of 14:27 today, one of those being me, just for the hell of it.

Are we giving false hope of a ridiculous profit for the poor seller?

    Good.

Picked up one for £10 at the last toyfair I attended, body repainted  dipped in black gloss paint. Only needed for chassis.

Seller usually has a box of 0-4-0 /0-6-0's all under £20.

I paid something like £12 for the SDJR liveried version, the very last of the line with "improved" chassis, which was the bit I wanted.

It was missing a coupling and the chimney, but the body was snapped up on eBay for a couple of quid, so nothing much wasted.

No I think @Hal Nail was referencing Magnahesion with tongue firmly planted in cheek.

I've still got a Lord of the Isles fitted with Magnadhesion.

It's a bit useless on nickel silver track...

Repainting something (badly) doesn't make it 'rare' or add value....

There's thousands of people out there who don't seem to realise that!

Although it has eventually provided me with some very cheap motorcycle restoration projects when the owners finally realise that they've significantly devalued them.

    There she is.

An old (1998 I think) Dapol autocoach with Dart Castings detailing kit and Shawplan flush glazing added.

I don't think I will be replacing this considering the time and effort I spent on it...

Damn, I really ought to get mine finished!

How did you get on with the glazing?

I have the Shawplan kit too, it looks to make a huge difference.

  10. A shed is never big enough, you always need extensions and lean tos (or lean aways in the case of the Bishop's Castle)

Perhaps they could be classed as a "sub shed"?

It certainly makes the building more interesting and typical of such facilities.

As for the BCRly, I'm surprised that Tacitus didn't mention it in The Germania. 😆

  11. I read about the Torrey Canyon, it's still a nickname for incontinent motorcycles...

It was another tanker (The Wastdale?) that took down the Severn bridge IIRC.

The maritime disaster that sticks in the mind from my youth is the sinking of the Herald of Free Enterprise, there seemed to be a spate of ferry accidents at the time.
