  1. Hi All Me Again! (Brief backstory here, full detail in forum post below here https://www.rmweb.co.uk/topic/161822-magazines-and-books-free-to-good-homes/#comment-4345006) - Father passed away - left a small mountain's worth of magazines, books and models behind. Many of which have now been dealt with in various ways. Finally starting the last of it, the books! (Oh, and some DVD's and even VHS?!!) I've begun archiving/indexing but last time it was a lot of effort for not much interest. As such, I've attached the spreadsheet here along with a few photos of some of the books (they may not correlate) Please let me know; - If they're of interest -If they're worth something (Absolutely no idea) and if so, what you would like and feel is a reasonable price for it -If they're worth little to nothing -Places I can potentially give/donate this collection instead of just sending it to landfill or recycling Thank-you in advance for any assistance and I'll try and answer any questions sent here or via direct messages as soon as I can. I honestly do not have any real clue with regard to literature of the Train and Model Railway world so it is all a bit over my head! Thanks Sam Train Books & DVD's (1).xlsx
  2. Hi Puck Up to date list now attached (if it says Allocated - Yes in the field to the far right then that magazine is not longer available) Railway Magazines.xlsx
  3. Hi Everyone. I'm starting to send out magazines this week for people. This is a last real push to ask if people want magazines to let me know. Please spread the word in the forum, too. I'm going to give a hard deadline of 15th of May. If magazines haven't been requested by anyone, they'll be going to the local recycling centre, I'm afraid. It is a shame, but I simply cannot continue having an entire room in my house taken up with these magazines, especially as we're due to welcome a child later this year and need all the space we can get! As for the books, I'll come to them next. As they're actively sought after I think there will be a small fee for them for those interested. Please feel free to message me with any questions. Kind regards Sam
  4. SORRY! I have been so busy and this has totally slipped on my priority list, all (Child on the way and a house move have taken the priority unfortunately!) I'll be responding to your messages and comments over the coming week to arrange delivery/collection or however else of magazines. Thanks/sorry again. Sam
  5. Hi All I've finished the magazines! There were SO many it was genuinely unbelievable. I did not know there were this many different publishings of Railway magazines!! Apologies for the huge delay! Things to note: There are 'normal' train magazines as well as model railway magazines in here. If a magazine is not very common/there aren't many copies, I've put it on the Miscellaneous tab Yes, there are multiple copies of random magazines. No, I have no idea why. Ignore the index number in the first column, that is literally so I can have a chance of finding them in the mountains of boxes If you're really interested in some magazines, please message me with which magazines, with the months/years you would like. Postage: I'll use a postage calculator to figure out the amount for postage and once received the amount in PayPal or bank transfer (whatever is easiest) I will send the magazines out Books I am now going to start organising books which seems like the more important/wanted items. 6. Hi All Just a quick update. I'm still working my way through the collection so will share the spreadsheet once completed (not halfway through yet! There are SO many). Magazine collections I have found so far; British Railway Modelling Magazine Railway Modeller Railway World The Railway Magazine Model Rail Modern Railways Continental Modeller Trains Illustrated BackTrack Steam World Today's Railways I haven't got as far as the books yet, but I will. Thank-you all for your updates and advice so far. I am still on it but i just want to let you know it isn't a quick task in-between daily life! Sam
  7. Okay so I've clearly unleashed Pandora's Express (train pun? Is this funny? I don't really understand trains or even know if there is such a thing as train humour...) Thank you for all your interest. I'll start going through the collection and put together a spreadsheet of what I've got. I'll also try and line this up with specific requests from yourselves and see if I can find things that match. I'm going to need a lot of fuel to get through all of this (fuel as in steam trains need coal so this is sort of a train joke too? no? I'll stop. Sorry). Thanks Sam
  8. Hi All. Thank you for your interest so far. I'll go through your messages shortly to try and figure out what I've got! There has been no interest in all the magazines (Railway Modeller and similar) - is it fair to say these are worth just getting rid off, sadly?
  9. Hi All I've got a load of books and magazines I inherited from my Father (https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/profile/742-edcayton/) They're not really worth anything I don't think but if you or someone you know feel you might get something out of it, please let me know. If you're local we can arrange collection or happy to post (at recipients expense, obviously). I've got lots of them so this is just a snippet, if you think there's a particular year of magazine or a specific book I might have, happy to have a look, just message me.
  10. SamC

    Hello!

Hi All! My name is Sam, from Hertfordshire, UK. Some of you may or may not remember my Father, @edcayton. Sadly, he passed away in 2017. We're now working through his mountain of model trains and magazines. Trains are fairly easy to price and a few model railway shops are working through them. I have a (almost literal) mountain of magazines and books to do with model railways, including Railway Modeller magazines going back to the 1970's! I just wondered if; A: Are these worth anything? Worth selling? B: If not, would anyone would be interested in any of these items? Either collecting or me sending to you for the price of posting? C: Where is the best/most appropriate part of the site to do this? I would stress I'm not too bothered about money, but these trains, magazines and books are taking up so much space in garages, my attic and study and I just want them gone! If they can go to someone who actually would benefit and get something out of them that is a massive bonus! Thanks in advance Sam
