  1. Sorry for gate crashing your topic but I thought you'd might like to see this recent purchase:
  2. Leaflets about the show have been made. They include the address of the venue, the sponsors of the show, info about our club and a list of the layouts and traders attending with a map of of the place showing where they are located inside. 5. Whitby Lifeboat today. The current Whitby Lifeboat is Trent class lifeboat 14-14 RNLB George and Mary Webb. However, it is due to be replaced by Shannon class 13-49 RNLB Lois-Ivan. The Shannon is currently at Whitby and the crew are being trained on it before they transfer over to it.
  6. Northern Rail is beginning the procurement process for up to 450 new trains for their network. The Tender states that the objective of the tender is to enter into a framework agreement for the manufacture and supply of the new trains, supporting them and the supply of spares. This will allow Northern to withdraw and replace a significant quantity of its aging fleet. This is very likely to include the withdrawal of their Class 150, Class 155, Class 156, and Class 158 fleets. 10. A while ago, I brought a fully wired up Dapol LMS semaphore home signal from Cropper's Models in Bridlington. It was originally intended for use on a new OO gauge micro layout I was working on. Unfortunately, that never happened and the signal remained in store for a while. That was until Oxendale was built. I was sorting out some boxes and I came across it again. I thought "that would go well on the layout" and then it hit me: Rather than keep it in store, I'll use it on the layout! I never got round to installing it on the layout until a couple of weeks ago. I haven't wired it up because I'd lost the instructions that came with the signal and had no idea how to wire it all up properly. That was, until decided to use the power of the internet to search for instructions. The installed signal. I initially wanted to go on the Dapol website and find the instructions there but then I came across this page on the Gaugemaster website. It even has a few diagrams of the wiring which is very helpful. I noted that the signal needed a switch and a transformer for it to work. Gaugemaster suggested using a GMC-WM4 12v Regulated DC power supply but after having looked on Ebay, Amazon and other model shop websites I found out that they had all sold out! The next closet thing to the WM4 was the WM5, a few if which I found on Ebay for around £20 so I've brought one of them. 14/08/23 Last Tuesday, I took the signal out of its location in order to test the motor and the light. I requested the help of another club member to help me test the signal to see if it would work. I plugged in the 12v supply (which arrived in the post that morning) and turned on the switch. It worked! With that out if the way, I turned attention to the motor that powers the signal. We used the plan mentioned earlier and temporarily put the 2 yellow wires on a switch. However, upon flicking the switch, the motor didn't work. In order to find out the source of the problem, we took apart the motor and tested it. Nothing. It just wouldn't work at all. Unable to locate the problem, I reassembled the signal and put it back in the box. I decided to contact Dapol the day after to see if they could help. The day after, I phoned Dapol up but they couldn't help me as I didn't have a receipt for the signal (I only brought it a year ago!)
  11. I can confirm that Oxendale will be attending the event regardless of its appearance by the time of the show.
  12. To start us off, I'll cover stuff I've not posted in the blog yet and I'll start with the scenic side of things: I've added Metcalfe tarmac sheets to the area where the goods shed is. Also looking better is the station platform. It's been covered in the blog already but I couldn't resist adding it in. I've started on the fencing and added station totems to 2 of the platform lamps. The backs of them have been coloured black as per the instructions and glued in place with PVA. I don't know if the totems are in the right place though. I think they should be lower down. On the electronic side of things now and I've started wiring up the PECO point motors. The diagram was kindly drawn up for me by one of the staff at Monk Bar Model Shop in York after I asked then how to wire up points. They also told me what sort of switches I needed. Also, On the to do list is to wire up this signal. The signal is a Dapol LMS semaphore signal and needs a 12v DC power supply and a switch for it to work. Gaugemaster suggests using GMC-WM4 12v Regulated DC power supply for it however, upon searching online for one, they've all sold out everywhere! But, the GMC-WM5, also made by Gaugemaster, is also a 12v Regulated DC power supply and there's a few available. Don't think it'll affect the signal though.
  13. As most of you might know, I've been working on my new OO gauge layout Oxendale for a while now. I've already made a blog for the layout which is here: The blog entries covers the layout's construction, the rolling stock and the ongoing work done to it and is constantly being updated. The blog entries go into lots of detail and have photos as well. I tend to do a lot of stuff on the layout and try to put all the work I've done in the correct blog entries. However, the problem is I also want to 'post on the go' - posting updates about the layout as I working on it. With the blog, I normally edit it the day after and I tend to do a fair amount of work to the layout so adding it all in to the blog entries is a bit of a time-consuming job. So I created this topic so I can 'post on the go' and then repost all the work I've done in the day/evening in detail on the blog later.
  14. Update on 63395: The North Eastern Locomotive Preservation Group (NELPG) have launched an appeal called 'Chip in for a Cylinder'. With the appeal, the society is looking to raise funds, of at least £20,000, to repair or replace the cylinder. NELPG hope to have 63395 working again within 18 months. https://www.nelpg.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2286:q6-appeal&catid=1:news&Itemid=53
  15. GBRf Class 66 66783 The Flying Dustman awaits its driver at Draxbridge.
  16. 18/07/23 I've started the painstaking process of ballasting the track. I have decided to start on the freight only line first then do the BR mainline second. I started it by dealing with a small section of the high level line first. I used my track ballaster I brought on eBay and a bottle of Ballast Bond. I should note that and it was an absolute fath to use (the ballast bond, not the track ballaster) and I probably won't be using it again. I then resorted to the more easy method: 50/50 PVA and Water with a drop of washing up liquid in a spray bottle. I got more ground coverage than with the Ballast Bond and will now be using for ballasting the layout from now on. This was the first bit of the mainline I tackled. I started on the line on which the platform is and worked my way from there. 19/07/23 Unfortunately, some of the ballast in the station area hasn't secured properly and is loose so I've redone the entire lot. Plus, the edges of the ballast weren't straight so I've used some lengths of wood to help it to keep the p-way straight. I also took the chance to ballast the headshunt while I was working in the area. I've also ballasted the rest of the mainline including the goods shed siding, the other siding and the running line.
  17. 66783 The Flying Dustman stabled at Draxbridge. Also the tail end of 6E64 to Doncaster EPT can be seen.
  18. Update: Draxbridge is currently undergoing a overhaul. As part of this, a lot of track requires pulling up. The work includes removing the 2 points, crossover, siding and headshunt on the scenic section and the headshunt, point and curve in the fiddleyard. Then I will be installing 3 new points, a new headshunt and siding. Photos of the progress I've made so far:
