Highland T Gauge Micro
scottishlocos replied to Marly51's topic in Boxfiles, Micro layouts & Dioramas
Marlyn This looks good if you can get any of these or possibly 3D print them then the following trains could be seen with a class 67 on Highland mainline TTA fuel tanks for Larig Safeway Containers possibly standard containers and wagons the modern megafret twin type VGA vans PCA cement tanks Any engineering wagons but they have to be the airbraked wagons as 67s are AB only MK 1 or 2 Coaches for a railtour Also if it helps i am sure i seen 158s on the Forth Bridge T gauge layout which would be suitable too -
Pumpherston Oil Company Tank Wagons - where & when?
scottishlocos replied to Alex TM's topic in UK Prototype Questions
Alex Pumpherston and the whole area of West Lothian was famous for shale oil I am sure oil was extracted from the shale there is a BBC documentary about this subject I am not sure what kind of oils would be in the tanks but at a guess I would say it would lighter oils rather than the heavy duty heating type oils Dave -
Shunting the Scottish sleepers
scottishlocos replied to nightstar.train's topic in UK Prototype Questions
Hi At Warverley the train is split in 3 Aberdeen and Inverness portions leave first leaving the portion for Fort William which has a Day Coach/coaches added this is done by the loco which will haul the train north Sorry not sure how it works at Carstairs or at the London end -

scottishlocos replied to Nearholmer's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)

Large Locos on Short Trains
scottishlocos replied to PatB's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
All I don't have any pics but Thornton Yard to Mossend Cerestar traffic used sometimes have a class 56 on a few bogie wagons a couple of times it was just one wagon. -
All I have lurked here for a while but I have now began my own micro layout based on operations at an MOD depot I am using the Crombie branch as the inspiration As this is a micro it will be a small corner of a larger depot

Guys Many Thanks some great posts and pictures I already have some tank wagons and wanted to know if I could use them looks like it was only aviation fuel delivered to the MOD depots by rail after the steam/early diesel era Dave
-
All I know fuel oil trains were the mainstay of quite a few MOD depots during both wars but when did these trains stop running not talking about the aviation fuel traffic but fuel oil traffic which was for either storage or use by the depot for heating /powering equipment Was there any of these oil trains during Falklands or Gulf War 1 Trying to find out if I can justify oil tanks for my late 80s early 90s MOD micro layout Dave

60009 Union of South Africa & 61994 The Great Marquess
scottishlocos replied to Dava's topic in Preservation
All Some of Fife Councils planning has been crazy and short sighted they built a new school that was full before it even opened then had to built a costly extension a year or two later. They have approved thousands of new houses without putting in any real facilities. Where they do put said facilities for said housing a new link road plan is cutting through a significant section of a well used country park breaking almost every planning guidelines in the book -
Modern freight loco's in the south west
scottishlocos replied to jonnyuk's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
Jonny Colas ass 37 work Network Rail Infrastructure test trains all over the UK I think they run in each region every 3 or 4 weeks usually top n tail 37s -
Ralf I would model a small corner of a larger NCB perhaps where there is or was a shed for repairing wagons Many of larger sites had large internal railway system with their own wagons so these could be shunted about along with some mainline coal wagons or hoppers Try Ashington in the North East or any of the Welsh Valley pits and also the Weymes Private Railway for inspiration Dave

Class 800 fails near Exeter
scottishlocos replied to Captain Kernow's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
All Did lack of air mean a rescue loco was no use in this situation or was it lack of rescue loco Shouldn't need Thunderbird locos with new trains but would be sensible to have one stabled half way -
Jim’s “out and about with GBRf” thread
scottishlocos replied to big jim's topic in UK Prototype Discussions (not questions!)
That would appear to be the case as I think 37s and 08 lasted longer in EWS service than any other locos from that era -
Diesels come to Pendon! Form an orderly queue!
scottishlocos replied to Andy Y's topic in Modelling musings & miscellany
All My points were as follows Why are Pendon alienating regulars and steam modellers by having a D&E event Not all D&E modellers will be interested in this event Pendon has been done to death in the modelling mags is this just a way to get even more pages dedicated I didn't say it was crap because it is not my era or or region the modelling is some of the best but perhaps not the absolute best as it is trumpeted in certain quarters/magazines Grantham and The Shap Northern hills layouts of this parish are not my era or region but I would say they are better than anything at Pendon Dave
