  1. Regarding C20116, I believe I was on that trip and SNG was taken off at Berwick where it was found the tender hand brake had been left on. Train was stuck in siding North of Berwick station while a locomotive came to take the train forward to Edinburgh and over the Forth and back. I remember someone waiting for the return at Newcastle to photograph it and asking what happened to SNG, had it happened now news would have got round in about 2 minutes!
  2. Taken at Heaton sheds in Newcastle whilst the APT set was being propelled on the ECML around Darlington for test purposes, usually the pics appear of the set leaving Newcastle Central heading North.
  3. Having scrolled through the topic I’ve not seen the image shown of the train split at Heaton Car sheds in Newcastle on Colin Alexander’s Flickr page, trying to link the image but proving problematic.
  4. I just about remember Class 37s and the gates and signal box at Bluebell Crossing.
  5. Happy memories of the smell of warm diesel from the locomotives idling at The Central, I applaud you on the many photographs here as they bring back many memories of living close to the site of Forest Hall station and the variety of locomotives and workings which I took for granted but now are a distant memory along with the sound of a 56 slogging up Benton Bank in the middle of the night on a MGR train which seemed to take forever! As an aside I used to play football on a Saturday morning as a school event right beside the ECML between FH and Killingworth and the kids I played with were amazed I could tell the difference between a loco out of view coming past us whether it was a 56,37,47 or the odd rarity.
  6. Oh my goodness it’s a rather young me in the cab of Progress with my father in image C14481
