  1. Greatly enjoyed my first visit to the Silk Mill so hope it is back in action soon. Thought the restaurant was actually rather good too. A mundane question - large Midland Railway Signs for goods stations/depots. Were they painted using white lettering on a black background or was the background colour different ? Any advice much appreciated. Jonathan
  2. Graham - did you do the Diag.1408 with the three-part door in the 7mm version or did I miss it ? JM
  3. Many thanks all - lots of useful advice there.
  4. I mainly model in O Gauge but want to buy a Hornby A4 model. I assume that there have been multiple versions of these over the years with lots available on e-Bay. Can anyone tell me what Hornby experts regard as the best-detailed versions ? Ideally I would like one in wartime black but my preference is to buy the best detailed version. Many thanks all. Jon
  5. Many thanks for that comprehensive answer re the Midland drays.

  6. Might I change the subject and ask a question about the painting of Midland horse drays ? I have seen suggestions of ultramarine blue for the body and pillar box red for the wheels and under-frame. Would the springs be blue or red ? I have three of the Slaters 7mm kits to build and the instructions are a bit limited. Might anyone be able to advise appropriate paint colours from the currently available ranges ? Many thanks. Jon M
  7. Really interesting thread. I see you mention fitting three-link couplings. As a novice can you recommend any easy way of fitting the to RTR stock ? I am really concerned about getting a neat slot for the shaft of the coupling hook ? many thanks ]on
  8. No doubt it was correct Graham - not least since you were involved and you seem to work tirelessly to get models right. Just looks really odd. May end up getting it because I am not sure they will necessarily do a further run. JM
  9. Happy New Year. Inspirational blog. I know videos might be a bit time consuming, but instead might you consider doing some very basic photo posts on how to do things like fit scale couplings or the wire bar couplings that you seem to add to your locomotives ? All best Jon M
  10. Have just receive two models - one LSWR and one S&DJR. Would have got both of the LSWR versions but I was put off my the slightly odd looking number 11111. Could get that and try to re-number but not sure if the numerals from transfers would match. Hopefully additional numbers will be run in the future ? These are really super models at a great price. Let's hope they sell well and that Kernow continues with its 'southern/south western" themed offerings in the senior scale. JM
  11. This is always pretty advanced stuff - made to look effortless by a master craftsman - but this latest build is really PhD level ! Blooming amazing. All best Jonathan
  12. Was researching LNWR north light sheds and found your lovely 4mm models.

I am a little uncertain about the office end - mine will be a 2-road shed in 7mm.

Do you know of any available plans or did you just put it together from photos.

    Many thanks for any help

    Jon

  13. Thanks guys - useful suggestions. its really just the office end and the ancillary bits and bobs I am looking for since the bulk of the shed can be done from the jack nelson book. I have tried Peco but they do not seem to be at work - will try again. I have the LNWR Society Journals - hugely useful - but no plans. Peco may be the best bet. thanks all again and keep safe and well. Jon
