  2. Welcome to my world. Gave up aged 15 in 1995, came back to it 3 years ago. Now aged 42 with a nearly 3 year old and a 7 month old. will reply properly tomorrow when not on my phone.
  3. Did you do the 3d printing of the running in board or are they available somewhere? I’m very much in the market for one after about 17 failed attempts to build one by eye….
  4. Agree, don’t faff about changing two numbers - you need to change all of them IME or it *will* look odd.
  5. I can see where you’re going with your thinking but the whole point of Swanage having the T3 is because it has been de-accessioned and *given* to the Swanage Railway, not loaned. It is *not* any longer part of the national collection so AIUI it would have to be a Swanage collaboration with Bachmann and Locomotion would be irrelevant
  6. coming back to this after a month with the (original livery) model from the latest batch. Probably one of my best purchases of recent years. Yes it's not flawless - the arguments about sand boxes, lights, reversing gear, etc have all been done to death. But... the standard of livery application is as good as anywhere else I've bought from (and better than the more recent Hornby attempts at e.g. BR green) the motor and pick-ups are fantastic. It strolls round the 50-year old extensive club layout with any load it's given quietly, and utterly responsive to the controller, moving up and down through speeds and *very* good at a crawl I mention pick-ups because some of the track, at over half a century old, is a bit 'dodgy' but the club is catering for everything from this, through kit-builds, to converted Dublo and first generation Tri-ang OO... It could have been better, in some ways it might be a bit of a missed opportunity in RTR as I can't see anyone coming along to improve a rival version in a hurry but, it's very, very good. If you're hesitant about buying one (but on the positive side of hesitant, I'm not trying to convince people who don't really want one) then I'd unreservedly buy it again. Lovely model.

  8. Took mine (after running in) to the club last night - in a location where GT3 was a regular visitor to the station and on-shed, and where many of the members remembered seeing it.* Absolute show-stopper.

  11. I'm not sure there have been too many complaints from people about the original GT3 though have there? Beyond this and that which could have been better anyway. I resisted it the first time round, but given that it's actually right for my layout, even if out by a couple of years, and almost certainly not only could I not do a better model myself but other manufacturers are likely to give it a wide berth because it has sold reasonably well and presumably soaked up much of the demand, so on that basis I'm in. I'd rather regret buying it than missing it, and I'll probably have some fun with it anyway. Other people's equations will be different.
  12. no, in the current batch there's a number of actual livery GT3s, which are/were being sold through Rails of Sheffield, whose website still shows as 'available to pre-order' - my point was quite literally that I think they ought to be on a boat by now.

  14. Agree with all of that, I’m very happy with my Steady Aim - the green’s a bit washed out but otherwise it’s a great model for us Thompson fans
  15. Well that's thoroughly decent of them - more of that please. Not a product I'm interested in but my A5 is excellent so I can only wish them success and hope for more in the future.

  17. GW rakes. To open, lower the window with leather strap, reach out, turn handle to vertical, push door. aside from the leather window strap that’s basically ok. However, to *close* - close door, reach out of window, turn handle from vertical to horizontal. If leaving the train close door and turn handle to horizontal. the main issue is that just closing the door doesn’t latch it shut.

  19. Ish. I think Gerry Fiennes would (did) argue that he was responsible for Waterloo-Exeter surviving *at all* rather than just being lifted. But given the maths it was always the one to be at least rationalised of the two London-SW routes.
  20. I think that cuts both ways though - I’ve always found it much easier to overlook the lack of crew in the 2-3 locomotives that are moving vs having a backdrop of 18-20 on shed, in rows, all with crews…. consequently, I don’t crew my locos.

Exactly, I’ve managed to put together a decent representation of pretty well any locomotive class you might have seen at Woodford Halse from Nationalisation to the handover to London Midland Region in the late 50s. I dread to think what it would come to, especially the sillier prices I’ve paid for the more niche stuff (L3 and C13 I’m looking at you), but the point is I’ve done it because it’s what interests me, not because I think ‘when I come to sell all this someone as daft as me is going to get their cheque book out.’
  22. Sort of a function of not running through large population centres between Rugby and Aylesbury and yet having many intermediate stations - so without stopping expresses at e.g. Culworth, they were forced into some pretty epic stopper turns.
  23. AIUI essentially yes, typically a Marylebone to Woodford via Aylesbury stopper- but will check with my surviving LNER footplate crew source (genuinely) from the Extension and see what they say.
  24. Certainly by the late 80s people were more forthcoming. Absolutely scandalous behaviour.
