  1. Just taken delivery of mine, and it's hissing away on the rolling road as I type. Wonderful model, mine's blemish free - even the coal rails look pretty straight compared to some I've seen. Bit hesitant in reverse, but that should shake out as it runs in. I've only paid £4 for postage (and it was a pre-order) so might be worth those who've paid twice checking. Don't suppose Sonic fancy doing a B16 next?
  2. I think we've been over this - and I can't remember if this is an occasion where Yeadons made an oversight, or if it was so 'unofficial' that it wouldn't/didn't count but... Gorton did double white on an A5 just because it could - it's basically a GC livery - as a bit of a, er, 'do one' to the LNER. It's a paint shop peculiarity, basically, but it is right (as in it happened, rather than that it was necessarily authorised...). From memory, the last time I dug right down into it it really was a two fingered salute as by the time they did it they'd painted a lot of other locomotives properly.... so they don't have the excuse of 'using up paint' or 'misreading the instructions' that they might have had right on the dot of the grouping.
  3. I know - I was in the process of deleting it (having thought better of it) but then the phone rang… just a bit frustrating seeing everyone’s pictures. Even the ones with complaints!
  4. All depends if you could have done it better yourself - scratchbuilt or from a kit? That’s always my own yardstick. Especially, as in this case, where it’s a sensible price.
  5. the only functional controller I've got at the moment is a Hornby HM2000 - is that going to fry an A5? My Precedent doesn't much like it (which is why I'm not using it)? I always get confused between feedback/non-feedback and coreless motors. My Duettes have also died.
  6. No, but I didn’t ask as they haven’t even taken my money yet. As I say I’ve got no idea how they’re prioritising orders.
  7. I actually rang them this morning to check the bank details (good job I did as the number has changed since the order in 2021) but slipped in a quick query while on the phone - I don't want to waste their time and wouldn't have rung them just to ask 'when am I getting my train?' I ordered on the day of release of the news during the video, so must have been one of the very first. However, although I know that my order is one of the ones that at least one person has received, nothing has yet happened for me - no money taken or anything. So I've got no idea what their order of priority is, but they are on the case and as long as you're sure the order did go through then I wouldn't worry.
  8. If it helps (it probably won't) my pre-order went in on the day of release (if we're being picky I actually ordered it while the release video was playing). It's for a DC one, and nothing has so far happened....
  9. while we're on niches, I do belong to a model railway club, but we exist pretty much entirely to operate a layout that in parts is now 50 years old rather than to build anything new. It's not portable, and is intrinsically part of the building it is in. But it does have a fully staffed and stocked bar...* so when asked if I was a member of a club, I obviously said yes - but not sure what inferences can be drawn from that (and I do insight for a living!) On the other hand, because I do insight for a living, I'm pretty happy that this is a good survey that we would charge a client money for, so a valid exercise and a worthwhile use of the time of those drawing it up and analysing it. *absolutely no prizes for guessing which club
  10. I’m 42, grew up within earshot of the SVR, and volunteered there from the age of 8. I should be GWR to my core. But now I live in the middle of nowhere and the GC mainline is in sight of my windows (well the remains are) so I model the GC in the 50s.
  11. I’ve just bought the ten axle one from DCC Concepts yesterday (as a Dc operator) - looks good but hasn’t my arrived yet
  12. I actually want one of those - what on earth are they called? Struggling to pull anything up online with ‘thing that holds things for modelling’…,
  13. Although of course it gets bucolic immediately south of Stourbridge - you go from Snow Hill to Stourbridge without leaving a built up area, but then fields between Stourbridge and Hagley.
  14. Point of order - no true bay platform at Stourbridge Junction - same face as the other three platforms: two islands fed by subways.
  15. I think the answer to this one has been the same since the very first 19th century models. A small minority of the total manufactured.
  16. Quite - I model one period 25 years before i was born, and the other 50 years.
  17. True, but they have the length/spacing to not look like they're going to trip over their own wheels!
  18. Don't disagree, and I've got a decent kit built one anyway, but it seems like such an open goal. Loads of variants, wide geographic usage, long lived etc.
  19. that just looks lethal - like it'll get to 50MPH and everything'll get tangled and it'll start throwing its connecting rods up into the underside of the boiler....
  20. The B16 is still dangling and ready for the first manufacturer brave* enough to do it... *no bravery needed IMO
  21. If anyone happens to have evidence of any of the new A4s having run on the GC mainline in the 1950s (some A4s did) then that would be a sale to me. If not...
