  1. It all depends what your running. I had a Liverpool bogie car that could get around a 310mm curve with only the occasional derailment. If your running 4 wheel trams then you should get away with it easily, with 8 wheelers I would personally avoid but is possible to go around 300mm.
  2. The is a catch point on the exit from the goods yard but it’s to small to see on the image. perhaps a proper point may be better suited?
  3. 1950-60s, ex LMS region. Both platforms are through lines.
  4. Hi all, I'm unsure how best to signal the layout. I plan on using the station for both terminating and through traffic so trains may need to use platform 2 for both up and down. The line is currently single track but I may alter it to make it double whilst still easy enough to change, not sure how this would effect the track layout as it would mean the left hand points would be facing the direction of travel. Any help appreciated. exact points and radius' not accurate to actual layout.

  10. I’ve just shorted the loco whilst on dc a few times. Now I am confused, I’ve refitted the decoder again it will now run one direction completely fine but just as intermittently like before in the other direction.
  11. Loco runs perfectly with a blanking plate on dc. It has been given a service as I thought that was the initial problem although it did work on dc before servicing.
  12. Have reset the decoder to its factory settings but its the same outcome where it runs a few inches and then just cuts out.
  13. I have a Bachmann class 25 which is fitted with a gaugemaster 8 pin dcc decoder. It has worked like normal over the past few years although after not being used for about 2 years I believe the decoder has become defective. The problem with it is once the loco has been selected and the speed is increased it moves forward about 2 inches then stops and repeats this until its stopped on the controller. I don't think it is the loco as it runs perfectly fine without it but I don't have a spare decoder to test if this is the case. Any suggestions or fixes?

  19. I think I will use the last track plan but as a single track. regarding signalling how would signalling work for trains that may be using the station as a terminus and which platform would be used?
  20. At least we can get Wrenn wagons at a reasonable price… right? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274768067233?hash=item3ff973faa1:g:ImEAAOSwgHxggDIw https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274777233655?hash=item3ff9ffd8f7:g:ZtYAAOSwFzZggCK4

  22. With a slight change of space and an increase in time I am looking to finally start the layout. with rather limited knowledge on branch lines its rather difficult to come up with a plan I am happy with. one of the main problems with most plans being storage for rolling stock/locomotives and connecting one end of the layout to the other as it will require a rather long removable bridge spanning from 0ne side to the other side of the room. below is the two track plans that would give me the most storage whilst still keeping a good percentage for scenic. the far left would connect to a traverser which would give the most amount of storage as it removes all sets of points and the far right would go into a sharper curve to send the track in the right direction to get to the other side of the room and reconnect to the fiddle yard. this gives overall around 16ft x 2ft of scenic space and potentially another 12-13ft x 1ft of scenic on the removable board that would connect the two sides together. It could be either double or single track but the traverser will bring running to a halt if a train is to be changed on either circuit which would be the downside of a double track. Other questions I had in relation to the station itself are; Would platforms have ever ran under road bridges? for the layout it may be beneficial to do so to make the platforms look longer than they actually are. this would be so longer trains could then be used and not look to out of place with some of the coaches on non-visible areas whilst stationary in the station. Is there a general layout/design for goods yards when it comes to these sort of stations as the is that much variation its quite difficult to tell what looks right and more typical. Any minor or major changes to these initial plans would be much appreciated as I would like to make a start on the layout soon. thanks
  23. Just another idea which I'm not sure if possible yet, what do you think of this? The marron looking part would be a removable bridge. It would still be operated like the prior designs but with the ability to become a continuous loop.
  24. Even if the plan was to be changed to use a less conventional design it would probably still look very similar as most branch terminus do. The is only so many ways to rearrange a station and a goods yard especially if its on a curve. If you do have any suggestions if you think it looks too typical it can still be completely changed.
  25. I don't think much space would be gained or lost by having the sidings on the top left but it would tighten the curve of the station or make it more straight. also the headshunt wouldn't be eliminated by this process. If the goods sidings where to kick back it would probably have to be from the points leading into the platform and kick back onto the middle left section where it is only currently single track.
