  1. Terrible days. You had to build stuff if Triang didn’t make it.
  2. I found this article that I had saved from a 1967 Constructor (that dates me….) which includes the following Hope this helps and apologies if I’ve infringed any copyright.
  3. I use a Tamiya Painting Stand Ref 74522. Widely available for around £20 with turntables
  4. I dithered about getting an airbrush until my daughter bought me a cheap Timbertech kit as a birthday present (usual disclaimer). It is said an ounce of practice is worth a ton of theory and that certainly proved to be the case here. My normal instinct would have been to avoid this type of cheapo solution but using this has de-mystified airbrushes and airbrushing far more than endless reading. Yes it probably won’t last a lifetime and spares might be unobtainable if it breaks. I might upgrade anyway as my experience grows. Whatever I feel much more confident now about spending three figures on quality kit.
  5. ISTR in a recent BRM article Phil Parker used Agrax Earthshade and Nuln Oil to weather a narrow gauge loco very effectively. Aquired some Nuln Oil on the strength of it but not yet had an opportunity to try it. There are many tutorials on the Citadel web site but this one using Typhus Corrosion and Ryza Rust looks particularly interesting. https://citadelcolour.com/videos/rust/
  6. Some useful stuff on this topic here…..
  7. I use one of those bathroom extractor fans. This stopped working as a bathroom fan because the run-on timer electronics failed. Removing the timer circuitry and wiring the motor directly has allowed it to be repurposed. A related question - any thoughts about suitable filter material (I use cooker hood stuff)?
  8. Finally got round to trying Copydex and it works a treat. If/when the tube goes off I will give the Mr Hobby product a try as I’ve always been pleased with their other stuff. Thanks all for the advice.
  9. Have you tried the Model Rail index on UK Model Shop https://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/modelrail.html
  10. I’ve been using Maskol for a while now with mixed results. It masks well enough when in place but I find applying it very hit and miss. The main problem I have is that it solidifies before I can get it on the workpiece (I usually use a cocktail stick - I only tried a brush once 😕). Can it be thinned to slow solidification? Is there a better product out there?
  11. Might be worth a look https://historicengland.org.uk Search for ‘Laing’
  12. l’ve tried Vallejo primer too. I got a really good finish with the airbrush but i found that it was easily scratched off with fingernail (this was on a Dapol kit that had been washed to remove any release oil residue). I’ve yet to find a primer that sticks as well as the Halfords rattle can stuff.
  13. According to modelshade.com Humbrol 15 is a 3.5 star match to RAL 5022 while Revell 154 fares better at 5 stars.
  14. Thanks for that. Away from home at the moment but will try the adhesive tape trick when I get back. The other tool looks good too so I might invest. The 'sticky blob' implement is particularly good for small flat bits such as etched plates which i find more difficult with tweezers or similar. It is just a more convenient solution than a cocktail stick and blu-tac!
  15. About 6 months ago I bought a tool which has a small blob of sticky silicone for picking up small components. A similar tool can be found here https://www.scalemodelshop.co.uk/pick-and-place-tool-large-point-modelcraft-s-ptw1133-p16203/ This was really useful at first but despite only occasional use the blob has lost its stickiness so the tool is no longer effective. I have always kept the cover on when not in use so it shouldn’t have gathered dust or dirt. Any ideas for reviving the stickiness would be much appreciated please!
  16. There was an article by Tim Shackleton in the September 2022 Hornby mag where he upgraded a Lima GUV but with Replica bogies.
  17. It depends….. When I took out a one year Hornby Mag digital sub in July there was an offer which included KeyModelWorld for the duration of the subscription. My access disappeared a few weeks ago so I contacted Key. They said this was a mistake on their part and they restored access. Might be worth checking if you took out your sub under the same offer?
  18. I flagged this up to Key Publications and they have restored my access to Key Model World until the end of my current subscription. It seems the issue arises where a subscription has been renewed. In this case the free access is not carried across from the old to the new subscription automatically as they are separate systems. Full marks to Key for sorting it promptly - worth contacting them if you have the same problem.
  19. Particularly disappointing as it is being applied to existing subscribers like me who took out subscription to the magazine as it included the Key Model World access….
  20. The Inspection Coach for me…..
  21. Can be ordered on-line post-free from publishers https://shop.keypublishing.com/product/View/productCode/SPECBRENG/Modelling BR Engineers Wagon
  22. Probably an accidental carryover from Vol 1. Has been changed to ‘Wagonload’ now anyway.
  23. Found it! https://shop.keypublishing.com/product/View/productCode/SPECBRENG2/Modelling BR Engineers Wagonload Formations
  24. Having the same experience. Used a variety of search terms as well as trawling through the lists and can’t find any trace.
