Does anyone know the significance of the section of track and the wagon on it to the 'main' line?

Hey Hawin, just stumbled across your layout when researching a forthcoming walk. What an inspired choice. My late father in law was based in Bala as a train driver during the 50's and 60's so probably drove that section himself, a nice family connection.
