  3. During excavations for the new track we found some old benches. This is the second one ready for fettling. The guys who put these in were made of different stuff... https://www.flickr.com/photos/32297024@N08/44537094561/

Some rather expensive trains are going to run over it. For what it costs to install I’d rather it was there than not.

Nice neat looking job. And of course fpr Simon's info there are plenty of trap points about with FPLS although most of them are inside point machines but there have been mechanical ones on freight only lines in the past - nice to have them when you're running very heavy trains.

Is that the accomodation for the new mainline trains?

Yes indeed. This is only a small part of the overall scheme.

  6. A dream in a box.. https://www.flickr.com/photos/32297024@N08/29514746127/ I have spent a lot of time over the years working towards restoring key token working to my railway. Tomorrow is D day. Circuit change starts at 06:30 and Principles Tester booked on from 09:30. If all goes to plan it will be key token working for the first time since 1969.

Signed in at 15:30. Later than planned mainly due to chin wagging and tea drinking.

But now I have to dress a point ready for the tamper before I nip home etc.

  7. More key tokens delivered to be bright nickel plated.

  8. I'm rather chuffed with my latest toy. A key token circuit over three miles long with an intermediate instrument (soon to be two) with switchable remote operator capable of working at each location.

Have you considered putting a railway line next to it, as an accessory?

    3. LNERGE

      LNERGE

It is alongside one of our heritage railways. My own version on NSKT where you can plunge at any one of the four locations on the circuit and get your own key.

    4. LNERGE

      LNERGE

You can of corse still use it as a conventional circuit with a signalman at each end.

  9. A point so new the chairs haven't gone rusty. Heritage railway bliss. https://www.flickr.com/photos/32297024@N08/30325478108/

It kind of stops being 'preservation' at that point and becomes something else - not a bad thing, though!

As an S&T man i'm rather lucky to have driven as many locos as i have. By driven i mean sat in the seat and pulled the handle. I don't sign any form of traction i've just 'had a go'...

    3. LNERGE

      LNERGE

The highlight probably being a pair of 37's with around 1700 tons of container train behind.

Not in this case. Poor condition of a bridge or the track over it.

We had a brief rumble early yesterday evening but nothing since, unless what woke me up about 5am was one.

  22. Turns out my new loco i've waited ages for is going to be a right little barford. I think it has square wheels.
