  1. Thanks Nigel, I’ve checked the pick ups and wiring with the multimeter, it all seems to be working fine. I guess it was just dirty before. Thank you for all the help. I’ll crack on with attempting to DCC it. (Can’t believe I thought sanding pipes were the pick ups haha) thank you!
  2. Thank you for the help. I have tested the motor and it is working fine, and the mechanism is running smooth. However the locomotive pick ups do not seem to be working at all. If you possibly could give me advice on this? I have cleaned all the wheels. When I have a close up at the wheels, I assume the pick ups are the metal wires cris-crossing the first and third wheel set? If so, they do not seem to be touching the wheels at all. The brown wire to the motor is attached to point in the side of the chassis at the front, if this helps. Many thanks Jan
  3. Hi Nigel, Thanks for the detailed reply, I’ve never come across live chassis models before. I’ll order a multimeter, I never thought about that. I have a few questions, if you would be able to help? How can I tell which way the wheels should go? I can’t see any difference except one side is shinier than the other Regarding the stay, what’s the difference between the current set up with the metal wire and creating a ring around the motor? Also, I was planning on doing DCC sound. As the current body doesn’t have space, I was thinking of cutting a hole in the bottom of the tender and storing the chip and speaker in there, I have some foam pads to isolate the inside of the tender, but I’m not sure if this will reduce the sound drastically. Would you be able to provide any guidance on this?
  4. Hi all, I’m a young modeller who has recently just got into OO/HO gauge. As such I don’t really have any experience when it comes to the inner workings of a model loco (bar a couple of YouTube videos). Recently I purchased a DJH Austerity 2-8-0, and I am hoping to convert it to DCC. The ad mentioned that one of the tender pick up wires was loose. When I took apart the loco to just the chassis, I noticed the wire in question wasn’t attached to anything at either end. I can’t see where I should solder it to. Please see the attached photos and any advice on where it should go would be helpful. I am also a bit confused when it comes to the motor, are the brown wires the negative wires that I should connect my DCC chip to? The motor is a Portescap motor. Apologies if these are some basic questions, but I don’t really have any experience when it comes to model trains. Many thanks
