  9. I have been continuing to get my collection of pre-Grouping road vehicles ready for the show in Crewe in June where I have been invited to demonstrate. In the meantime, I was invited to take some to Taunton recently for the SWAG RMWeb day. The photo shows less than half the collection. My thanks to John Farmer (Re6/6) for the photo. I hope to see some of you at Crewe.
  10. Link direct to the page on the S4 website: https://www.scalefour.org/scalefournorth/ Yes, I know it says Scalefour North but it still gives the right details.
  11. The popular Scalefour North has migrated to Scalefour Crewe on 3rd/4th June 2023 at Crewe Alexandra FC, Mornflake Stadium, Gresty Road, CW2 6EB Details of what is on offer can be found here on the Scalefour Society website.
  12. I found this site in the US: Tin Soldier The models are 1:72 and there is, of course, international postage but they are relatively cheap. The kits are white metal but rough when compared with what we in this country have become used to. I have recently completed these Rolls Royces which took quite a lot of work, filing to clean up and thin down (eg rooves) and replacing things like windscreens with some I made from scratch. You might also look at KW Trams who are in South London. They have Anbrico and ABS kits, some of which go back to the days of EAMES. Don't let Ebay tell you these are 'rare'!! ANother point to be aware of - I recently ordered from Scalelink and a note in my packet said he is retiring in August 2023, so if you want any vehicles, don't delay. Most of the road vehicles are in these two sub-menus. Don't forget to click on 'View all' at the top of each lot or you may miss extra pages. Could be an expensive read!!
  13. I wrote to Dundas Models. They do not know anything about the road vehicles but said they would forward my enquiry to W^D Models. If I get a reply, I will let people know.
  14. I am coming to this topic very late - I have been without an internet connection for several months. There are many more vehicles than one might think and attached is a list of suppliers of pre-Grouping road vehicles. Unfortunately, I see W^D Models' website has disappeared and don't know if they are still in business. If they have gone, then it leaves quite a hole, especially in the lorry department. 15. Does anyone know what has happened to W^D Models - the producer of WW1 kits, not the model shop? Their website has disappeared.
  16. Do you think this could be adapted and made in to more of a stage coach? It's an ABS kit, ex-Varney. http://www.kwtrams.co.uk/productdisplay/r152-mail-coach
  17. Mikkel. Your work has often been described as 'inspirational' and for once, I have been inspired actually to do something. I have had this omnibus part-made for some time but your post here has got me going. The kit is very similar to yours but I am not sure of it's origin as there are differences. The roof is cast in the checked pattern which I filed down and filled the holes with some paint to reduce the chunky look. The two mouldings around the waist are cast on my kit. I can't remember the corner joints as I had already made and painted the model. However, I have aded the railings around the top and added a couple of small rollers of brass micro-tube at the top of the luggage hoist; there is a rail around the driver's seat; I have painted a faint gold lining on the mouldings and added 'Great Western Railway'. The latter I culled from a photo of a cast sign, bumped the resolution up to 300dpi then reduced it to 1mm tall and printed it on ivory coloured paper. I have coloured the tyres with an HB pencil, a tip I was given recently and to get the silver in to the lamps I used a very small burr. The horse is temporary, just for the photos. I apologise for the photos. I just cannot take a decent one at the moment, whatever I do. Perhaps it is the poor winter light but I am more inclined to my ineptitude. Thank you, Mikkel.
  18. The driver's seat is often raised and wedge-shaped, tilting forwards. One adopts a position which is more upright, more like perching on a bar stool. It enables you to put more pressure on your feet which helps controlling the horse(s). I did a bit of driving some years ago. If I had the space I would do it again.
  19. We have a new bauble on our Christmas tree. Have a safe Christmas, everyone.
  20. Yes!! Annoying is putting it mildly. They are irrelevant and intrusive. Sent an email to the administrators but not had a reply.
  21. You mentioned nuts. I did a test build of a DD3 tank wagon in 4mm for Taff Vale Models and made one or two additions including nuts on the end of the diagonal braces. I used 16BA nuts. I have attached a picture and leave you to judge their suitability. The diagonal brace is 0.5mm nickel silver rod so the nut slips easily over th end, held with a minute dab of glue. There should be two but my supply of nuts is low so I economised. The second, lock nut, would have been thinner, so just file it down. Unfortunately, 16BA nuts are like hens' teeth at the moment but when they become available again, would someone please let me know??
  22. The last exhibition I went to was at Houten on the outskirts of Utrecht, 22/23 February 2020. I was helping on the Modelu stand there but the exhibition was interesting. There was, naturally, a lot of HO but plenty of other thing one does not see very much at UK exhibitions - dioramas, a couple of stands with big ranges of Lifecolour and other acrylic paints and landscaping materials, some interesting tools and automated road vehicles. It is an exhibition I shall go back to, not every year but every so often.
  23. Thanks, Dave. I quite understand fitting bits on to the etch economically. Some kits come with the body on one etch and chassis on another, which is why I asked.
  24. I made one of these way back in the late 1970s. It was an Albion Models white metal kit with an etched brass chassis. I think the kit is now available from Roxey Mouldings. My model was made to OO. I forsook modelling for some 25 years and when I returned to the hobby, I did so working in P4. However, I have a soft spot for my 4-4-4 and want to make a new P4 chassis for it. Dave, will your chassis have spacers and be suitable for P4 and if so, would you make the chassis available separately?
