  1. I am in the process of planning and building a micro layout. I have picked a few items of SNCF stock and rather fancy building something to utilise the grain wagons I have bought. I have also picked up a Rees Locotracture. I could do with some help finding a few key words to help with image searches. I am thinking about maybe a brewery or flour mill. I have tried Google translate but I am not getting any relevant results from the searches I have tried. Any help of links would be most welcome.
  2. Does any know where the timber was loaded for the Aberystwyth to Chirk timber trial this year? I have tried to use Google maps to look at the station but the resolution is not great and can't make out the track plan, I can't make out any sidings. Also, is the place this timber was loaded the same as the 2005 trial using the Windhoff multiple units? Thanks James
  3. I am currently building some Cambrian OBA's, is there anyone who produces 3d printed mesh sides for these wagons? Cheers James
  4. I came across this video on YouTube It looks to me like some sort container wagon being used with a cradle of some sort, the video says it is a steel train. Does anyone have any information on these wagons?
  5. Thanks guys, I ordered some from Stenson Models.
  6. Hi, A few years back I had bought some axle boxes made from cast metal for project with some Cambrian OBA's. I can't for the life of me recall where I got them from. Does any know where and if they can still be obtained? James
  7. Hi, Does anyone have any experience of a Loksound 5 in an Athearn Genesis MP15 or similar? The sound works fine but the running is not smooth at certain speeds, around speed step 60 to 70. I did the autotune on CV 54 which seems to helped a bit, it also seems changing CV 53 can help, currently set to 100. Just wondering if anyone has had the same issue?
  8. Does anyone produce a kit of / 3d print of a steel coil trailer in 1/76? I am talking about either the low curtain sider type or a flat bed with well in it to house the coils.
  9. I think the latest version of the track plan is great, I have always liked the less is more approach to modelling. I also am a big fan of the line running off through the buildings.
  10. Hi John, The rust on the stanchions is done using the sponge technique. I use a Games Workshop paint called Rhinox Hide, I dip a small piece of torn sponge (from those very cheap sponge brushes you get the £1 shop), remove most of the paint on some kitchen towel, then sponge it on. It works very well on raised edges. If you want to go to town you can do it with a few shades of the rust for more depth to the effect.
  11. 95% done. Still need to paint the brake discs and Matt varnish it with many coats!
  12. The basic colours are done. Next varnish and decals, then the fun bit, weathering.
  13. The next OTA is in the paint shop. Looks a bit of mess at this stage but this is going to be another rust bucket. My layout is set sometime between 2003-2007 so these wagons where at the end of their working life.
  14. Another OTA on the workbench, these are 3d printed kits, not by me. It won't be going much further as my superglue has done a great job of gluing the lid on. So a quick order has been placed I have another one at the primer stage so I will entertain myself painting that one.
  15. Can anyone point me in the direction of anyone who makes a 7mm scale flood lights, working ones. I want to make a mobile lighting tower, I am happy to scratch the tower, but would like the lights and light surrounds if they are available.
  16. Next up, a Heljan cargowaggon flat with a timber load made.
  17. I am calling this wagon done. I painted the brake gear and discs, added some strapping.
  18. I thought I would start a thread to show some of my 7mm timber wagons I am working on for my small layout that is slowly taking shape. This is a 3d printed kit of an OTA: IMG_20210820_193346 by James Hockley, on Flickr IMG_20210820_193357 by James Hockley, on Flickr IMG_20210820_193346 by James Hockley, on Flickr IMG_20210820_193319 by James Hockley, on Flickr
  19. I stumbled across a copy in Smith's, I am very impressed. As I am modelling the EWS enterprise period it is perfect. Now I just need to find vol 1 somewhere.
  20. Much more subtle this time. Some grime around the frame and light fade on the paint. When the varnish is dry I will paint the roof rusty and a pin wash to bring out the details.
  21. I thought I would have a go at some weathering. Starting with a box car for a freelanced shortline I have in mind. First step is to patch out the old markings. I have then varnished the model, ready to add some rust and dirt.
  22. Hi, Does anyone have any information on MEA wagons in use for moving salt? I found a couple of pictures through a Google search from a company called NGS, but no info on where they go from and to. I am also curious as they open wagons, is the type salt being moved not affected by water? I have read up on the use of the PGA hoppers for moving salt but they where covered. These interest me as I model in 7mm and can obtain a kit for the MEA.
  23. Some work on something different tonight, a 1/43 timber truck I have been working on for a while: IMG_20201022_192355 by James Hockley, on Flickr IMG_20201022_192427 by James Hockley, on Flickr Which leads nicely to the PRMRP OTA I am going to build: IMG_20201022_192817 by James Hockley, on Flickr
