  1. A bit of a childhood hero for many of us here I suspect.
  2. There must be some posts missing as no layout has been named just inference to a "Large P4 Layout". Horfield is very good if what you want to watch is a succession of trains passing by, but for me it held my interest for no more than 3-5 minutes and I did not return. If the "large P4 Layout" is the one I suspect there is reference to, then comparing them isn't really fair. A quick question to the owner of the P4 would have revealed that the layout came from cool storage and was then erected in a near 30 degree humid metal box. Plain line could well cope with these conditions, but a layout with multiple section breaks and turnouts is going to suffer. Of course the answer to that problem is DCC but we don't want to start that old argument again, much like the OO runs beautifully /P4 doesn't, one.............Oh, but we're here again. I attended Railex on Sunday and had a thoroughly good time, what I saw was modelling to a very high standard and in numerous scales and many gauges.
  3. Is there a club nearby or do you know anyone else with straight DC, you have to make sure the motor runs well first, then you'll know if it is the decoder settings.
  4. Is it a full moon or something in the water. I don't think I've ever equated the rolling up of good and toxic debt, into one package that caused the meltdown of the banking system, to an offer from a magazine to take out a subscription and see how you liked it over a period of time. I sub to BRM for the content and piccies (and railway Mag and MRJ) Judge it by that standard, and not what you think you're getting for free.
  5. That means that when you bump into Andy Y you'll have to kneel saying "We're not worthy"
  6. The issue is possibly that if there is large amounts of social housing mixed among the market houses, then it reduces the value of the market ones. This isn't snobbery but the reality that some people when given a house don't behave in the same way as someone who purchses. This isn't meant to offend but is something I've seen a few developers fall foul of. The social housing has to be built first and in one case, before the site was 75% complete a housing association had moved all their "bad cases" into one area which had the effect that it suppressed sales of the market housing. In the end the properties were built then rented out until the Housing association got their act together. When the tenants were moved out (no idea where to) the housing association had a large bill for remedial works and repairs for housing barely 10 months old.
  7. They don't want your setails, they just want your money.
  8. On the first point, it is the Planning inspectorate that reviews appeals and their decision is final. They look at the application as presented and make a decision base. On the second point, it is very rare to have social housing removed from an application, for some of the bigger sites it wouldn't make sense as there is a guaranteed purchaser for the properties.
  9. Gents, I know I can be the worst offender for going OT but can we remember this is Brians thread for his company anouncements.
  10. If people want to use it and find it useful that's fine, I get a bit peeved that just because I don't want to use it, I'm looked at as some kind of old fart or paranoia freak or out of touch.
  11. These details can easily be obtained by legitimate means. Slightly OT here but individual "Sellers" aren't bound by the data protection act.
  12. I guess what narks me the most about planning and development is when a decision gets made that some people don't agree with, the assumption is that there is corruption in one form or other. I've said it quite a few times, that if it was possible to bribe my way through planning it would be far cheaper than what it is now. But the reality, is that although I know the local planning officers well through the many projects I've done, there isn't the merest hint of favouritism shown or expected. They are after all professional people trying to do a thankless task.
  13. The chances are when you subscribed there was an offer that was to entice you but wasn't available to existing subscribers. What goes around comes around. I must admit that I subscribe to 3 mags, but I do so for the content not the offers.
  14. When you say "Nothing works" what do you mean ? In your first post you say it's "slow and jerky" so it did work (of a sorts) What was it like when powered on straight DC (no chip)
  15. And the first thing that came into my mind was
  16. The saving grace of visiting the S&DMRC is that they don't actually meet in Chavenage, to visit both towns in one day would have scarred you for life.
  17. Morfa Bank sidings would be a good one, but can you do the pictures in sign language for me. An excellent issue.
  18. Whoops.....yes you're correct . I have to say my spelling has become pretty atrocious in the last couple of years and I've no idea why. Occasionally I hit the wrong key (or one finger overtakes the other) but I certainly got that wrong. That'll teach me.
  19. I always understood Dan prefered a letter rather than telephone call.
  20. I'm not surprised, gravel is a bit awkward to post
  21. No, that will suck him in to the vortex when he least expects it......or dreckly
  22. I get them on the landline which is in the directory, it's also in the public domain as with madam being a Councillor you have to have your details published. I reckon though that as I annoy them so much they keep selling my number on, if I'm in the office I can average about 4-5 a day, mainly MS/BT internet virus scam but occasionally I get PPI or accident claim ones. .....(I must remember your answer). You can get calls trying to sell you stuff all day long sometimes. A typical one was from Duotool in Aberdeen. Mobile phone rings and very heavy Scots accent is heard Me "Hello" DT "Hello Dave, this is Duotool, I wondered if you're interested in any fixings" Me "No, not today" DT "But we've got some really good offers" Me "I'm sure you have, but I don't buy things over the phone" Usually this works but this chap isn't being put off. DT "Dave, you say you don't buy over the phone, but have you never ordered a Chinese meal" Me "No not from Aberdeen I haven't as it'd be cold and mouldy when I got it" DT "You're a funny f***er aren't ye" Funnily enough I never purchased from them.
  23. The pipe surface is as rough as a badgers ar.......you get the drift. Very thick walls too. The manrose pipe isn't bad, but only using it as ducting I couldn't say whether it'll take paint, but if some oil based undercoat is used first It should be fine.
