  1. Hello. At Warley at the weekend I spied my ideal gap filler building. It was on a Belgium layout so probably continental. The grey one fixed to the background and with lit windows. Does anyone know its pedigree please? Dave.
  2. Is the wire for 'say' the left hand rail on one board wired to the right hand rail on the other? i.e. reversed on the opposing boards. Dave.
  3. Liquid flux is great if you can was it off. I always use multi core but also have a tin of Rosin flux as a back up. If you are doing a lot of soldering, like track, a blob of solder can build up on the iron's tip that all of its flux has burnt away. This is where the tin comes in. Use a cocktail stick to place rosin flux on the joint and use the blob on the end of the tip. Dave.
  4. A new board needs a new cable to connect it to the controls and power etc. A new cable has been made up using my usual DIN-Sub plugs and sockets and wired myself. Different from previous cabling, I have chosen ready made breakout boards for the board ends on the cable. Saves all the fuss of cutting out a mount for the DIN-Sub sockets and mounting them to the boards. Wiring feeding the cable at each end can be be screwed down instead of soldered.
  5. On eBay the seller Switch Electrics sells all the combination of pins. They are Molex plugs/sockets. Dave.
  6. So it's back to preparing for the extension. Lots of bits have been ordered as well as some pick ups at Warley. Of course. an extension means a bit more stuff to fit on the control panel. Earlier I had decided to move thing to the left on the panel, drilling new holes etc. The facia would be very difficult to remove and fit a replacement because of the way I built it. Then yesterday a brain wave happened. I would cut out the area that the switches occupy and fit a new facia over the top. So today was spend removing the switched etc. en mass, Printing and laminating the new plan and fitting the switches to it. Lastly some adjustment to the routing of the wiring. Hey presto! And it all works. Dave.
  7. Here's my partly finished APR Signal box kit found on eBay in unpainted form. Full storey on the Elbow Lane thread under 'Layouts'. Showing the application of the mortar effect. Great kit. Dave.
  8. Graham. Thanks for answering for me. Saves me interacting with people. Dave.
  9. They are differing sides. Note the door handrails are reversed. Dave.
  10. Sorry EFE! Been there, done it and got the T Shirt!! Dave.
  11. Thank you to the organisers for a great show. We had a great weekend showing K Street Yard. A well managed show all round Dave Carshalton & Sutton MRC
  12. 'K' Street Yard is out again this weekend allowing you Midlanders a chance to see it. It'll be at The Great British Model Railway Show in Gaydon. Dave.
  13. What it should look like once completed. (no guarantee though) Dave.
  14. One I have had a clear up of my workspace, I'll be starting on the short Extension. Just another 2' 6" (750mm) board to squeeze in between the bridge ans the Fiddleyard board. Here's the plan so far. The other half of the bridge is on the left and the fiddleyard entrance on the right hidden by the signal box. The odd track work shape is required because the Fiddleyard will still need to match the original board at the left end and the new board at the right hand end.and the
  15. Spotted you at the show. Seen your first two videos so I'm looking forward to this one. Dave
  16. I am resurrecting this thread due to the passing of Colin Withey. In earlier posts there is talk of Colin's models moving onto others members/layouts. I have some to dispose of and would be interested in who might like to acquire them Dave Smith
  17. Some of mine & Colin's work at the Carshalton & Sutton Club. His models were top notch. Dave.
  18. Please see the posts re the above in the Obituaries section. Dave Smith
