Hi BoD The window overlays and the gable ends are cut using the silhouette cutter , it makes it very easy to duplicate parts. -
Through Limestone Hills - Monsal and Millers Dale
apbolton replied to LNER4479's topic in Layout topics
Update, thanks to animotion of this parish, who sent me some wonderful photos, I have made a start on the last station building, platforms 2 and 3. Firstly platform 3 side was cut out and the stone work added. Then the remaining walls were added and the window overlays were built up. And now the upstairs is being added. And finally a test fit on the layout before I get any further.- 173 replies

Yes indeed, the 11 fiddle yard tracks now have isolating sections and I only burnt my fingers once! Next all the points need connecting to the control panel and then I will be able to run trains properly. -

apbolton replied to LNER4479's topic in Layout topics
You're not wrong there Graham, First stage completed, 3 layers of plaster bandage applied. As soon as I have the time it will be skimmed with polyfiller coloured with brown paint, before the flock is applied. -
Through Limestone Hills - Monsal and Millers Dale
apbolton replied to LNER4479's topic in Layout topics
Progress has been a bit slow this last couple of weeks, but I've managed to add the entrance to the quarry besides Chee Tor tunnel, although not prototypical and somewhat lower than planned the hillside has been extended. It was my intention to make it slope more on the righthand side but there wasn't enough clearance for the up and over door.- 173 replies

Through Limestone Hills - Monsal and Millers Dale
apbolton replied to LNER4479's topic in Layout topics
Here is the original drawing Graham produced for me, the additional quarry is in the bottom right above the track shown making the layout on 3 different levels. And you know how much I like shunting but it was really an excuse to have some of the ICI bogie hoppers or at least a reason to run them through Millers Dale and Monsal Head. -
Through Limestone Hills - Monsal and Millers Dale
apbolton replied to LNER4479's topic in Layout topics
Yes it is, independently operated from the main layout but also an excuse to have some ICI bogie hoppers which in reality would not be seen at Millers Dale, bit of modellers licence, after all the Peak District is noted for its quarries, isn't it. -
Through Limestone Hills - Monsal and Millers Dale
apbolton replied to LNER4479's topic in Layout topics
Although not part of the original plan, we decided that there was room for a small quarry behind Chee Tor, that baseboard was added last year and the track set out, but then left. I decided it was time to get on with it, so over the last week for an hour or so each night I have pinned down the track and wired it up. Now all I need to do is build a small control panel and it will be fully operational and ready for some scenic work.- 173 replies

Through Limestone Hills - Monsal and Millers Dale
apbolton replied to LNER4479's topic in Layout topics
It's been some time since I last posted any progress and to be honest I have done very little on the layout, I have however been working on the platforms in the warmth, now its a bit warmer I have started to complete them insitu. Before I get too far along I want to complete the backscene, so I have put a first coat of plaster on the rock face and a bit of blue for the sky. Lots to do yet duties its a start, hoping for a building day in May, so watch this space!- 173 replies

Help to repair H & M Walkabout controllers.
apbolton replied to sncfbill's topic in Electrics (non-DCC)
I have had several repaired free Gaugemasterover the years, although not recently, it would be worth trying them before attempting any repair, I suspect Gaugemaster would say tampering nullifys the warranty. -
I believe its for the Hornby TT club.

A substitute for ‘modroc’ required
apbolton replied to AyJay's topic in Modelling Questions, Help and Tips
You can order on line from Hobbycraft, their plaster bandage is only £1.50 a roll, it's smaller than modroc but cheap as chips and is just as good.
