  1. I understand that now, although at the time I placed the pre-order it wasn’t clear that the full amount would be taken. It’s not a problem, just surprised me at the time! I certainly wasn’t casting aspersions on Realtrack, in case anyone read my comment that way. It was just the “not taking orders” bit that worried me, not initially realising that referred to a specific livery. Looking through this topic, it’s wonderful to see how far the project has progressed - quite looking forward to delivery in due course!
  2. I’m sure everything’s fine, it might just be the Merseyrail one for which orders aren’t being taken. I’d still like to be reassured though!
  3. Hi Charlie You say you're not taking orders yet, but before finding this topic I placed a pre-order through your website on 20th October (order 1818) for RT142-312 and the full amount was taken from my card, which surprised me. I have an email acknowledgment from you. I'd just like to make sure that the order really is in your system for delivery when available. I do note that the price has changed in the meantime though. Cheers, Paul Boyd
  4. John, I don't know if you're a member of EMGS and have seen their announcement in the magazine, but the way it's presented makes it very clear that Andrew Jukes is intending to create his own ordering facility. We now know that isn't the case, but the statement Rob quoted is entirely within a blue border presented as a letter signed off by Andrew Jukes, underneath a heading stating "An Announcement from Andrew Jukes". I would post a copy here but the magazine is copyright. Given Andrew's denial that he ever said this, it can only be assumed that the EMGS have inserted this into his letter before publishing it. As published in the magazine, it's really very clear with no ambiguity whatsoever, however incorrect the statement may be. Cheers, Paul

    Dapol 'Western'

Suddenly, Trains4U's listing now shows three sold, three still available - maybe we should ask for a commission!

    Dapol 'Western'

Hi Justin I did say I hadn't worked it out yet! Thanks for the info though - I had assumed that Dapol got the ride height correct, without having actually checked for myself! The difference in wheel diameter alone won't make up the buffer height discrepancy so I'll need to look at that carefully. The conversion pack wheels do measure out at 14.4mm, at the wheel root. Cheers Paul

Thanks for that - that's reassuring. Mulling over this again last night, I may go for moving the centre pivot and allowing the bogie to rest on the bearing pads, but leave it rigid. Not sure how well that will work, but it'll be a first step! The Ultrascale wheels are the correct scale diameter so hopefully the ride height will be unaffected by effectively moving the bogie up a smidgen. Not that I've worked it out yet! Cheers Paul

    Dapol 'Western'

Now that I can't answer. I did get caught once (by a different seller) who just wanted to "borrow" my money for a while, but as Trains4U are a bricks and mortar shop I would hope they would be above that sort of thing. I guess the way to find out would be for some of the people here who didn't get one against their pre-order to try and buy one! I would, if I needed another...

    Dapol 'Western'

By the way, considering the grief that people seem to be having trying to find stock, I'm a little surprised that Trains4U's eBay shop is still showing six Legionaires available at less than Dapol's shop price. (No connection, although I have bought from them in the past.)

    Dapol 'Western'

Hi Dave I'll be very interested to know how well the Western runs with a straight wheel swap to P4. The leading axle on each bogie seems very light and I'm worried about how well it will hold the track with the very rigid bogie, rear-biased loading and small flanges! I'm trying to work out the best way to spring it and centre the pivot. The latter is easy, the former less so! Cheers Paul

Well, I don't often come here, but reading this thread makes me glad I pre-ordered my "Legionaire" in plenty of time! It arrived yesterday and it's running in now - hopefully it'll quieten down soon! Like "Torr Giffard" Dave, mine has several wobbly wheels giving it a distinct waddle on the track. Not a problem for me as I have a set of Ultrascale wheels ready and waiting, but this is something Dapol ought to look into, I think. It is a beautiful model though, otherwise. Holding it up against photos, it just looks right. I could comment on the spelling of "Legionaire" not being correct in conjunction with silvered door kick-plates, or that D1029 didn't have headboard clips, but that would seem picky and give us P4 modellers a bad name
