  1. I wish I could remember where "somewhere safe" actually is, I keep putting things there and forgetting....

I think this weekend I will need to do a thorough tidy of the railway room/study to try and find it.  The glazing fell out of a voyager I was fitting new lights to (over the past 6 months or so) and was put away somewhere safe until I was ready to reassemble...

  2. Finally get my PDK 47xx running sweetly without the cylinders fitted, only to find I appear to have lost them.  Very worried they might have fallen in the bin (which was under the shelf where the loco was stored...

I found it eventually, safe in the corner of the workbench.   Must get the crank pin washers soldered on before I loose it again

  3. Anyone know what colour the Hall Class / Star Class text on the splasher of unnamed locos should be.  White or yellow/gold?

      The Fatadder

Thanks for confirming my expectation, I have a b&w photo of the star Class branding which looked white but wanted to check....

  4. Somehow managed to loose the handrail, buffers and nameplates for my Bulldog.  I’ve put them somewhere safe pending the purchase of the final components for the build at Warley, but no idea where!

Found it, just a shame it wasted an hours modelling time looking...

on the plus side I found the missing window etch for my DRS 20/3 that I needed at Warley...

  5. Hurrah! It's 28°C in the layout building shed!

I'm going to brave the garage tomorrow afternoon to spray some coaches and the Manor, far too hot to work on the layout.

  6. Is there any point in listing old Hornby/Bachmann boxes on eBay? I see lots for sale but not sure how many people buy them, or if I should just throw it all in the recycling?

Im missing a trick, must go through my detailed limited editions and stick the box and certificate on ebay!

  7. Shocked how expensive it is getting to build a loco chassis, for a Manor with Markits wheels it’s looking like being over £120 for the parts!  Might have to switch back to Gibson’s...

I think a lot will depend on whether I have the motor and gearbox I am thinking of. Money saved there can definitely be invested in the wheels

  8. 1 hours work to make 1 pair of masokits screw links. I need at least 8 pairs by Feb 2nd

    1. The Fatadder

      The Fatadder

I like the smiths 3links / instanters but always found the screw links looked really wrong. Will have a play with these Masokits ones this evening and see how I get on. The only coupling needed witll be between the loco and lead / last wagon as the rest will stay perminantly coupled in the fiddleyard

    1. The Fatadder

      The Fatadder

Either way they will need building, as if nothing else there are plenty of locos for Brent that need them. Longer term I think I need something else as it’s not really practical in the constraints of the layout. There just isn’t really enough time to do anything about it by Saturday week

The second pair took less time at least, very fiddly but they do look rather good once done.

  11. Annoyed once again the postman hasn’t bothered leaving a card to say he had left 3 parcels in the kids playhouse. I could have been working on my TPO

      The Fatadder

True, got back home today to find an Amazon parcel left on my doorstep, at least RM took it round the back!

      Somewhere....

I have a feeling I must have at some stage bought a pack of US kaydees without box

I just can’t understand how I’ve ended up with a box containing 20 coupling heads and springs 6 lower boxes and no lids

  15. Does anyone have instructions for a Markits sprung tender chassis please?

    1. The Fatadder

      The Fatadder

It should say Masokits, although my autocorrect has other ideas

  18. is loving this heat, though it's a bit sticky tonight. Looking forward to a nice sail tomorrow.

    1. The Fatadder

      The Fatadder

Not such of a fan of the heat, though getting out on the water sounds an ideal solution!

  19. has left the shed after finishing a good bit of of the ballasting.. The 35°C heat sure helped the 'Klear' to set quickly

I like your thinking, it almost convinces me to go out to the garage this evening and make a start on ballasting Brent. Almost.....

  20. Just had two bids on items I’m selling on eBay removed with no reason given. Not happy!

    1. The Fatadder

      The Fatadder

true, but I have never seen this happen before, must be yet another shift of balance from seller to buyer. Typically everytime in the past I have bid and regretted it I have not been able to retract. in this case both items were as described, with an opening bid at £25. I don't see how someone can retract on that.....

I was looking through my blogs today, and realized I have hardly touched Brent this year. Hoping warmer weather will spur me back out into the garage...

  22. has had a brilliant sporting week. Cheltenham races, 6 nations weekend (well done Ireland!), Winter Paralympics, FA cup matches and F1 starts next weekend...and the ski boots have been found!

  23. is suffering TV withdrawal symptoms. #winter sports nut who is too old to ski anymore...well maybe one more time!

    1. The Fatadder

      The Fatadder

I’m sure there was a article on one of the ski pages I read about a French guy still skiing in his late 80s

Before I can go again I need to convince my wife that I am responsible enough to not injure myself, a slight issue when last time I broke 3 ribs trying to brake the 60moh barrier.

  25. Sit down to line my County tender only to realise HMRS transfers only include one Hawksworth tender (and I used it on a Hall)

    1. The Fatadder

      The Fatadder

I just wish there were era specific packs of the HMRS transfers, so frustrating to have a bunch of leftover pre war lining and nothing left post war. Still at least they can be chopped up as boiler lining so more useful than the loco branding transfers
