  1. Thanks very much for the photo and maps. Even though I am a biologist I never fail to be surprised at how quickly trees can grow. David
  2. My only regular commute was around 1957/8 when I travelled on the Great Central into Nottingham Victoria from East Leake on the way to and from school. Usually the loco was a B1, the stock was a mix of Gresley and Mark 1s, all corridor. The Gresleys were more comfortable. Once or twice the loco was a V2, I think I was once hauled by an ex LMS Class 5. From time to time in the morning the train would approach the platform very quickly and stop beyond the station, followed by a quick reverse into the platform. We were usually back on time by Nottingham. David

  5. I've just had a look at Google Earth, I see what you mean. It is still remarkably similar. It's a very long time since I stopped the car there to have a look. David
  6. Yes, it was 1967, 16th July to be exact. 60019 was working an RCTS special from Leeds to Glasgow. Edit After a number of attempts the link now works. It is on the Six Bells Junction site at: which gives more details. https://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/60s/670716ag.html But if you look at the railtour files and select 1967 you will find it. Why is the internet never simple? David

  16. I think these are the only two photos I have of the type, both in the later dark blue. I didn't start taking photos in the north east until 1980. I think they have both in this thread, but a long time ago so am copying them here. 17. I've no idea why I had it down as a K1 and not as the K4 3442 The Great Marquess, I really should have known better, especially as at one time Dad had known Viscount Garnock who then owned the loco. David
  18. As far as I know, yes. There is a signal on the upside, not visible in the photo, K544 if that helps with the exact location. David

  20. Some Swiss photos today but we are now going to look at the railways in the Summer of 1992. In 1992 I decided to drive to Switzerland rather than fly. We start with some photos taken in the north east, along the line from Appenzell to St Gallen, now part of the Appenzeller Bahnen, which is metre gauge. 22. Many thanks for your comments. I don't think I have any photos around Mantle Lane, it was in the wrong direction from home! David
  23. It actually went to Bressingham. I believe it is now stored in Switzerland as a source of spare parts after a restoration company failed. Does anyone know anything more? David
