  1. Yup, on my groups that are either private or with less than 8K members they seem not to be of interest, but above 10K members it seems to be different. The worst being one with over 41K members. Admin assist on that one now has over 120 words, or sets to words to try to control the wibble.
  2. I will look forward to how you do the cylinders. Michael Edge is all being well doing me cab, valence and splasher etchings to do 727 near the end of its life.
  3. Admin Assist where used can stop comments using key words and hopefully reduce the chances of rows breaking out in the first place. Being an admin is a fairly thankless task. One group gets about 100 odd spammers try to join every day, the list of words / phrases that will not get published is now over 100 including those old favourites, ALDI, T Shirt, Brexit, HS2, Khan and various others. All you end up doing is just going back through comments keeping an eye out for silliness going on and then just not enjoying the group. Life is too short, You could always just enjoy Beechingposting or the Bash Mash just for some fun and wibble going on around FB
  4. Think I got a couple of good ones. Firstly a DJH E1 for £33 - I only wanted the tender and the cab to make a pattern for a brass version so all good and a D&S NER 6 wheel brake for £52 which considering what they go for I was happy with.
  5. Fingers crossed he continues to improve and its possible to purchase some more kits.
  6. Can't wait to take the matchbox out for a spin on Saturday. Lets hope the good numbers we had over the weekend continue
  7. Is there any news on how Arthur is doing, I remember it being said he was sadly not very well?
  8. Yes the railway be that the big one or preserved are like families and are a great support to each other. There is even a FB group for railway workers which is simply 'Railway Family' with all the changes it can feel like that is breaking down and its dob on your mates at times rather than all working together.
  9. Certainly in the long distant past before mobile phones, cameras, gps speedos and video more happened. The ORR view now is simple most engines do not have a speedo so there is a little bit of leeway given. Speeds were more 30 years ago, but certainly not now. Line speed in BR days was 45mph from Bewdley to Bridgnorth and 55 north of there. As for the Inspector, yes I know who you mean.
  10. I can believe it from lots of Inspectors and old Drivers. Things were so different. Lets face it in the past if you just went past one there was a good chance if it was only just of squaring it up with the bobby. Now by comparison it would be a completely different story of course even on a preserved line.
  11. Some stories were probably embellished, but there would have been a degree of truth in them. One Traction Inspector told of his first trip to Bristol on a Castle as a young fireman, the trip down was uneventful they arrived, parked the engine on shed and went out to the pub. He said the driver ordered 14 pints, young Ray say are we having a party to which he was told ' this one is for you then go back and look after the engine' which he did. He said the driver came back, they baked onto the train at Bristol and set off. According to him the Driver fell asleep and he had to drive and fire the train back to Snow Hill which was non stop. He said the Driver woke up at just the right time and did a perfect stop. Another Inspector during an enquiry where my Driver was accused of coming into a station too quickly when dropping a token off (the Bobby caught it with his hand rather than putting his arm through as we were taught) said that, again as a young fireman he had changed tokens at 40pmh at Broom junction. Based on the curves not sure that it would have been safe, but it was I felt more about saying the Bobby was probably doing it wrong but he had to be seen to be saying something. Sadly most of the old hands with the interesting stories have now passed on, but their stories are certainly not forgotten.
  12. Either something short term or related to you as its working for me with no problems
  13. The livery was for the Jubilee which has now passed. Phil, the owner has paid for the repaint and as it is due to be withdrawn for an intermediate overhaul at the end of the year it would have been wasteful to put it back into full lined BR livery. It will get people talking whatever.
  14. Its a single steam turn apart from gala at the moment. No mention of 40s weekend. To run the 2019 timetable would cost an additional 600K due to rises in coal and diesel.
  15. If this is the one with Brush Junction in it really is an amazing piece of work. Steve freely admits he suffers with his modelling mojo and has put together an amazing and convincing model. That it is in MRJ is a testament to how good it is and one in the eye for some other mags which apparently turned it down. It shows just how good OO can look and is based on Broom Junction on the former line from Aschurch to Barnt Green. He is a really nice bloke too.
  16. Brian Macdermott in The Somerset and Dorset line records sets 421 and 348 being examples used in the 1950s
  17. Here we have 2-6-2 5 Villabaso Next 2-6-2 15C11, again no idea where or when. Finally a tank but cant see the number, nor wheel arrangement. Could it be French? Thanks for any suggestions in advance, or it not just hope you enjoy them.
  18. Thanks to you and PH it is really appreciated. Peterm - I will certainly post them on the Industrial Railway Society - thanks for the suggestion.
  19. Hello, would anyone be able to help narrow down the details on some locos from some of my negatives. First is a Belgian State Railways Type 51 built by Couillet of which 4 were built for the Mines of Crespin. Can anyone help with which number it might be and when it was taken Next is 1705 built by Cail & Cie - somewhere in Spain, can anyone help to tie down where and when it was taken and anything more on the loco? Finally is 0-4-4-0 tank E159 - thought to be in Portugal, but there is no concreate evidence yet. Any help on getting more information on these negatives in my collection would be really appreciated.
  20. Very interesting. Do any of your members know of a photo showing the whole of the rear of the box at West Moors. The only views are part views and Peter Russell who as you may know is an expert on the lines in the area does not know of a view.
  21. A good one yesterday a Finecast etched LSWR B4 chassis, un started and complete for £18 to go under a scratchbuilt body of 30096, nice and really happy with that.
