  1. Firsthand experience that the NHS is this country's most valuable asset.Instead of getting Easter eggs I got multiple heart attacks, which came as a bit of a shock as up to now my health has been excellent. After a few additions to the plumbing of the ticker I'mnow firmly on the road to recovery. I cannot speak highly enough of the care I got in Southampton General Hospital given by people from all four corners of the globe, all diamonds in the crown that is the NHS

Get well soon, Phil. Glad it turned out well for you. I had a bit of relatively minor plumbing done a year ago and the NHS is truly excellent.

  4. is currently in 1L73 being pilotman worked over the UF in the down direction between Woking & Farnborough - a proper piece of old-fashion railway practice on the modern railway - Lovely !!! All the years I looked after the Emergency X-over at Farnborough and never travelled through it until right now - new track !!!!

So are you stationed at one end of the Up Fast, effectively sending each train over the Single Line or is the UF being used in a two-way mode?

I don't know the layout round there, but if there is an Up Fast, presumably there is also an Up Slow?

  5. That sinking feeling you get when...

You know it's bin day, the leaflet says it's bin day, the website confirms it's bin day but the road is empty and you're the only person putting your bins out.

We used to have bags and frankly, I preferred them, as they took paper and card in the same bag and once sealed, the paper or card stayed where it was put! (even if the bag itself did sometimes go down the road on it's own accord)...

Bin day today here. I'm hoping that the East Wind will not have too much sport, once the small tub things are emptied...

That certainly looks like an illuminated train set.

  10. Does anyone else frequently find themself spending longer (sometimes a lot longer) searching for something eaten by the Carpet Monster than it would have taken to make a replacement part?

    1. Captain Kernow

      Captain Kernow

There's no point looking on the carpet.

      There's no 'carpet monster'.

What there is, however, is a wormhole to a distant galaxy, where the inhabitants delight in the free model railway components that unknown creatures send them.

I think it is partly the nature of some younger people, these days especially, to 'wear their hearts on their sleeves'. This is, of course, mostly down to the effects of instant communication via social media, something that just didn't exist when I was younger and that is something I am grateful for, because (apart from RMWeb and similar fora), I am absolutely not tempted at all to join Facebook and all the other platforms. For me, there is no 'FOMO' in that respect.

You will both wash your respective mouths out with carbolic soap and very cold water from a GW water tower!

  21. Do you have a topic page for your S&D branch?

    1. Captain Kernow

      Captain Kernow

In the past, I used to have my own website, which had separate pages for both Engine Wood and Bleakhouse Road, but it grew too expensive to keep going, so we stopped it.

I've just put another photo up in the 'Realistic Modelling' section. This one is from the side not normally seen at exhibitions (I had taken the backscene down in order to get some 'different' photos).

      Hi John,

No, I've never started a thread for Bleakhouse Road, although I've often thought of doing one, perhaps in the New Year?

      Best wishes,

      Tim
