Are you sure there are no split cogs?? IT can be hairline and very difficult to see but enough to widen gap on teeth. Terry

Agree with above with regard to DC controllers some nominal 12v supplies gave out in the region of 15 volts at 1.5 to 2 amps

Definately buy for forward projects especially in 0 gauge as it has a multitude of cottage industry manufacturers and along with me they are getting older. The number of small businesses that have closed without a continuation of their products is quite noticable. This also goes for stuff in production i.e. Little Loco company has just called time on its excellent Class 15 Terry

Not if it had only been used for carriage heating if that was still extant on this loco. The royal carriage heating loco would also be tarted up

The class 33 is one of the early Heljan models and the currrent it uses requires the larger decoder. Howes of Oxford offer the ESU v4XL with 33 sound at £179.99. These are relatively easy to fit (but not wire)in place of the DC control board. Provision is made in the lower tanks to fit a 40mm round speaker. Speakers do not come with the decoder. I would never recommend any of the older Heljan locos for a first time fit, their wiring colours are to say the least unhelpfull. There is alot of so called advice re fitting of resistors into lighting circuits which frankly are not required. You do however need the knowledge as to how to alter the CV's controlling the light out puts of the decoder to reduce output. Later Heljans do not require this.The fan can be operated seperatly and its speed regulated by the apropriate CV but they can be noisy. Stay alive system is incorporated in the decoder and it has two seperate take offs for speakers And then there are of course Zimo decoders Not trying to put you off Terry

I looked into this when thinking of getting shot of my layout shifting vehicle. The problem is you can't really price convieniance and it would need in my case probably a 5 day hire for a 2 day show (try explaining that cost to a show organiser) A 4.6t VW downgraded to 3.5t by the way

Loco's on the GE section of the Eastern had tender cabs or protection boards fitted purely for tender first running. Classes J15, J17, J19 and E4 were so fitted, as many branches did not have turning facilities or had it removed.
