  1. Excellent pics as ever, just spied in C230 3 of the Scotch Beef for Sainsburys containers as modelled by Tri Ang all them years ago. Always rare to spot then in on a train. Cheers James
  2. Apologies for a slight diversion away from coaches, I spy 3 PWA's loitering there, just wondering if you have plans to re bogie them? Stenson Models used to do the correct Fast Freight Gloucester bogies but they are no longer produced since Wills Wagons took over, aparantly 3d printed options are out there but not seen any used as yet. Iv a couple to do to add to the rake so be interesting to hear your plans. Cheers James
  3. Evening Steve, just gone back through some of the pics still on my phone ref the bogie pivots. What we do is usually bend up the rivets on the inside so the bogies can be swapped if needed but also re used. With the bogies out, we then cut the pivot stretcher out and then re mount at the correct centres and glue back on the inside of the frames, very simple way of bringing the ride height closer to protype. Hopefully the pics below help illustrate what I'm trying to explain: As they come, start by getting rivet out. Then chop out the pivot section to be re set at correct centres. (Cant remember what they are! I'm away for new year but I'm sure it's on this thread) if you glue them flush to the top it makes the ride height better if re using bogies. Hopefully this shows how the rivet can be re used inverted and using a bit of sprue to keep a good friction fit. Handy if you plan to change bogies at some point. Also easy upgrades such as new buffers and corridor end plates help to bring things to life. Dummy buckeye couplers also for brake ends look good. All available from Comet or Dart Castings etc Also, depending on era, removing end steps too. Another thing missed from these pics is adding a blanking piece of plasticard into the gangway door to hide that unsightly hole. We have had quite the production line over the years bashing coaches about mainly Tri Ang's but also a couple of Hachettes. When I'm back I'll try get pics of each for this thread. Not the best pic but heres one we did as per above and chopped into a brake 1st mounted on replica commonwealths hope this helps james
  4. Looks excellent Jon and worth them added little bits to detail up. Just thinking about plates, I'm sure the chaps at Narrow Planet would do a great job on some, also wouldn't be surprised if they have drawings already. Cheers James
  5. Ah, never thought! Rare to see them go cheap at mo, couple of quid for a CCT body was close enough haha!
  6. Thanks Colin, my Dad is pretty pleased with it, cleverly he did the cuts on the plain sections to preserve as much as he could, and to get the little grills in the right places, if you look closely you will see the model is missing a set of grills against protype but that's doen to the Lima CCT having a set less. I bobbed a little bit more filler in here and there so should come out pretty flat but like John says you could see where the windows were plated up so won't lose too much sleep over it. Cheers James
  7. Well, it doesn't feel like nearly 4 weeks from my last post but then again it's been a pretty busy few weeks with onr thing and another that doesn't involve trains. Although I did get rather wet over at Bury after my last post. So, here is what's been going on in the last few weeks: The pile of maroon Staniers and CCT's got lined numbered and varnished and are running around the layout now behind the home made Stanier mogul and I have to say I'm pretty chuffed with how they came out, u have got a set of port hole 2nd open sides on the way so another one will be added to the rake at somepoint. My Dad has grafted in a toilet window to one of his suburban bargain coaches to create an ER prototypical set, I'm just doing some last bits of filling and I'll have all 4 ready to go into blue which will be quite a good rake and something a little different. The PoP Train is slowly edging along, transfers ordered from Railtec so should have that nearly done soon. A newcomer is our bashed 'Ferry CCT' we have had an idea of how to make one for a while so when I got a Lima CCT body going cheap on Ebay the plan got into gear. Body chopped down and married up to a Dapol Interfrigo van chassis, wheel base is slightly short but itl do for me, just on with tidying the body up then ill think about what bits are needed for the chassis. https://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/brferrymotorcarvan Couple of other bits in process are some Thompson coaches, a pair of Esso class A tanks and a LMS CCT and a mk2d TSO made from 2 BSO's amongst the things closest to completion/ in boxes hiding around my house. Roll on the Christmas break from work! Hopefully more updates soon as I need to clear some space. Cheers James
  8. Thanks Steve, I love a trip on the ELR, usually get across for each of the diesel galas but missed the Sept one this year so really looking forward to heading over today. So a chap with a beard, drinking real ale and a camera... knowing The Trackside that's about 80% of the clientele on a gala day hahaha! Cheers James
  9. After a fairly productive weekend last weekend this week has slowed down somewhat, too much work, parents evenings and then getting a cold really hasn't helped the pile of stuff thats ongoing. Thr CCT is nearly there, just needs a bit of dirt on it, I found this interesting livery variation on flikr and had enough bits of transfers so it makes for an interesting addition. The others idea is done as a standard Eastern region one. The pile of staniers are just awaiting the top lining on one side, may power through that lot tonight. PoP Train is now 95% structurally complete, mixed up a big batch of milliput last night for a few bits and bobs and tried to fill in the 3d print lines on the cabin sections. Just primed them up and another round of filler required there. From the batch of coaches my Dad has sent down, the Thompson BG and TK got more filler in the gaps and a sand doen this morning. These have been bashed together from a selection of BTK/BTK bodies I acquired in the summer when I did the sleeper BSk. I was going to sell them on but Dad decided to take on a challenge and they are coming up pretty well. The chassis will be heavily modified Tri Ang mk1s as we have plenty knocking about. The tank barrels also had a bit more filler, these will be getting RT Models ladders etc as per the previous class A Esso tanks I did earlier, got 2 sets of transfers left so these will get used up there. Also on the go is a Lima LMS BG I got pretty cheap, now on LMS bogies and will be going into blue to bolster the parcels rake. Just to add to the pile, I picked up 6 resin ICI hopper wagons for 30 quid off Ebay for a bit of a surprise for my Dad, I think they may be the High Peak kits which are 80s vintage, they look alright but a fair bit of fettling needed and some bogies and wheels but should make up into an interesting rake. I need to do a bit of reading up on whether diamond frame or plate frame bogies for the early/mid 70s time frame I'm normally working in. Lots to do but I'm having a day out to Bury tomorrow for their DMU weekend. Cheers James
  10. Evening Steve, now I think that's the first iv seem an electric 58/88, that looks a smart thing, is it shorter than a 58 or just the pic? Conversely 58 201 looks longer! Nice job on them both
  11. Oh there's all kinds of aircraft loitering about, other side of the layout has a V2 and one of them funny little German jets whilst an XB70 is dangling overhead, proper rule 1
  12. No trouble at all Steve, it was very much make it up as you go building it with a bit of guidance from some diagrams. Did not know Q Kits did one at somepoint, don't think iv seen another model or kit come up for sale. Interesting. If any extra pics would help you ill get a few better ones taken. Cheers James
  13. Hi Steve, the Super Deltic is a criss between a Lima 50, Lima Deltic, with some Lima Western grills, I think it's currently running on a Lima 50 chassis but now with a Hornby 59 power bogie and cast 37 side frames. I did have pics of it unpainted but lost them changing laptops etc and the great picture from here too. EDIT, managed to find a couple and a pic of one of the Super Hymeks, iv got a green and red one also
  14. Evening all, so we had a bit of a stock swap at the weekend after varnishing and I forgot to take pics of everything finished.. Managed a couple of snaps whilst up at the layout this evening, it's looking a bit cluttered with a lot of coaches out but nice to see my latest batch on the rails. Particularly fond of the Cravens and the Thompson CK but I think the wooden BG now in blue is my favourite as its got a bit of character. Also on the go are the bargain suburban, my Dad has already got plans to chop in a toilet window so the SO centre compartment to make an Eastern Region toilet second then everything will go blue so he cam reminisce about his London trips in the 70's. A few Thompsons coming along too, these have been cobbled together from bits of brake end bodies I got in a job lot, and the planked brake is a rehash of a conversion I did about 20 years ago. Still work to do but soon be down to my house for painting. The mk2 TSO is 2 BSO's chopped and spliced and a mk2 BG will be made from the spare bits, just deciding where to chop a bit out the middle. The PoP Train now has more wright packs to glue on, thanks again @apt-e Paul for sending over. That should get primed at the weekend to get ready for painting. Currently on with painting up a few Stanier coaches, nothing ground breaking but nearly time for lining and I'll letter up the Indpection Saloon too. Lots going on but it's better than watching tele through the dark evenings. Cheers James
  15. Indeed, I have the full Harrogate Gas Works Railway quartet, just need the hoppers now to go with them
  16. Oh interesting, let's see what happens there, when I say OK I mean its my go to cos they are cheap.. I jist like the clickety clack of metal wheels
  17. Aye, not looked yet but was wondering if they'd be HO ish, always try stick to 14mm with coaching stock but can sometimes get away with smaller on certain goods stock. Tbh the Dapol bags of 12mm 3 hole discs are/were good value so normally stick with them. Reminds me actually I've got a couple of class A tankers on the go so I need to check wheels and transfer situation, an order may be incoming soon to you! Cheers James
  18. They did/do and it was a good colour for BR bauxite, Citadel changed their colour names as well at somepoint it was probably something like Goblin Toilet Brown or something! Its a real mine field. Might just be worth bobbing into shop and seeing what looks about right. Cheers James
  19. I can't seen to be able to find it but I think it was something like Citadel colours to Vallejo colours which then matched to some of the Humbrol Rail Colour range. There's a couple if sites which seem to have gone now, possible the RAF Kinloss MRC had it? Just had a look again and the actual Humbrol conversion download doesn't seem to have the rail colours on! Frustrating James
  20. Na just Maskol on the windows, I really should have done the sides and varnished them before I glued them to the coach...
  21. Afternoon Colin, indeed iv been lucky a few times getting banged up coaches that have decent wheels off Ebay. Also today I had a trip over to Frizinghall models and my Dad got 4 older Bachmann suburban for 3 quid a piece! 3 of which had decent wheels so bargain there, also got a pack of 10 Bachmann coach wheels for 17.95, cheaper than Hornby by a little bit. That should replenish supply for a bit. I also picked up 2 Dapol PCA V tanks for 3 quid each too, little bit of work needed but it may be time to start up detailing them and my 3 bogie cement tanks. Back home now and varnishing in progress Finally an update on the PoP train, @apt-e Paul from Leadley Kits has emailed to say he will send some weights over to me at the weekend so I can get that finished. Been a good day so far! Cheers James
