  1. Cheers Jon, one of the pics in the book shows Barber with a kettle by smoke box so thought I'd replicate it, I think it's an oil can really but looks the part! Also I put the jack on left side footplate instead of the right because itl be chimney 1st to gas works and I'll only see one side!
  2. Afternoon all, I feel like I'm back into the swing of things modelling wise, picked up some bargains off Ebay as well for some projects to come. Anyway, this week I have sprayed up and lettered a GUV and a couple of CCTs and found a Southern van without lettering on the layout too. The CCTs and GUV were sprayed with some RAL spray paint I got mixed up last year which is great for all over blue stuff. Transfers are Railtec, don't look top closely at some of the wording as the sheets I have are mainly for mk1's and southern pmvs etc. Also this week I have got Barber pretty much finished AND running! I borrowed the 009 trest track from my Dads to get it run in. Now I have all the Harrogate Gas Works engines I need to think about couplings and get some hoppers sorted properly. I have to say I'm rather pleased with Barber, the RT Models kit is well thought out and great to build. The works plates came from the Narrow Planet custom service, great looking things and service from them as usual. I think we are having a stock swap over today so I'll have another batch of my Dads coaches to finish off and varnish soon. Cheers James
  3. Ha! CCT'S even, blooming auto correct! Having said that if I find the one that uses the flower beds as a toilet it may end up in corporate image fur!
  4. Cheers Jon, been itching to get Barber sorted. Like you say, at least its still with us and the Peckett has had an extension too but I think because we have seen Barber run in original condition it does look worse seeing it taller now, especially the chimney as it puts the face of it off. Hey ho, I'm sure if I was driving it I'd want a bit of head room!
  5. Afternoon all, its certainly been a busy couple of months for me doing loads of stuff around the house but very little on the various train projects, however, the paints are back out so something to share: The Harrogate Gas Works Railway Barber kit has got a coat of primer today and I'm just about to test out a green I have in stock for it. I saw the real loco was out on the South Tynedale yesterday after some work and it's cab and chimney extension- not a fan! The Green it's in now is the original Thomas Green Green which is very bright, my model is loosely based on the loco in later life after overhaul at hunslet so assuming a darker, hunslet green used. The worksplates I ordered from Narrow Planet are here too so not much to stop.me getting it finished. Also I got my Dads coaches weathered and varnished up this last week, they have been in a box in the shed for quite some time... Lots of things in the pipeline, got some cat's and a guv to spray blue tomorrow and expecting some more maroon mk1s to come down from the layout for final fettling. Cheers James
  6. Hi, the EM gauge 70s site has a great roundup of the mk1 types: https://www.emgauge70s.co.uk/proto_pullman.html Not much on the Hull portion though but 2nd class Pullmans will have been gone from the Hull train from 68 or so but up until then you could get some good combinations of rev blue and grey and brown and cream. Hope this helps James
  7. Interesting one Bucoops, it's almost like it's half rebuilt/modified like the others- from left to right- big window halved and built up at the bottom like a rebuild. The plain window behind the bar panelled over like rebuild, big window in situ as per original then smaller plain window panelled over like rebuild then windows for saloon as per normal. If it was departmental mods post withdrawal then why would the modifications be nearly the same as the rebuilds? Weird one Cheers Jamed
  8. Looks a bit like BR Gresley buffet rebuild with a window put back in?
  9. Thanks for the links for both sides, I have one it in my to do pile somepoint soon. I did the bar car earlier this year with Southern Pride sides, certainly different Cheers James
  10. Morning John, keeping well thanks just been far too busy recently with various things which had kept the modelling to a minimum. Just found the tin, it's a very old tin let of humbrol 40 which they call pale grey but it looks bang on for class A tanks once varnished to take away the glossyness. Hope this helps, iv got a couple more ready for painting so your message has been a reminder to get more ladders ordered! Cheers James
  11. Evening all, so it's been a fairly steady week, lots of lining done and numbering etc. Most done last weekend and the sleepers last night, I needed a day or two off to process the leeds relegation but it's a good distraction! Anyway, current state of play as below, rail strike has put payed to my plans for tomorrow so have a free day so will be weathering and varnishing in the sun all being well. Then onto the rare (to me) medium of brass.... So we have a selection of mk1 sleepers, I only have two so have varied the sides between second, first and comp. Thompson SLBSK, iv assumed it had the 'sleeping car' branding, waiting to be proved wrong. Roof just about to be coated again and gangways painted black this eve. Also reminds me I need to dismantle the maroon one I have to paint chassis up. PMV lettered as per a pic I found, looks about right. Gresley sleeper, slightly fictitious but numbered correctly I think? Nightcap bar, pretty much done, really like this coach and was fun to build from the Southern Pride kit. Blue BG, good to get this lettered up, I think I sprayed it up this time last year and it's been awaiting some finishing. It's due either new wheels or bogies. Mainline RBR renumbered and partially repainted to cover scratches, not bad for a 4 quid fixer upper. BSO lettered up, nice addition to the B&G rake coaching stock. Fingers crossed for decent weather and free time tomorrow to get this batch up to the layout. Cheers James
  12. Oh excellent! Should have my sleepers finished in time! Cheers for that James
  13. Don't forget plain blue too for some full brakes still knocking about. Also some Thompson sleepers fetched up on the Western in blue and grey for a bit of variety!. Cheers James
  14. No trouble, I'm not sure exactly how accurate the list is, I think i got it off a site that was marketing RTR O gauge ones of them. Glad it's a help, I'd love to know if any remained green. Cheers James
  15. No probs, note sure on ECML inter regional but I'm sure it happened, certainly seen pics but if you ever need to renumber/repaint any iv just added list of numbers to the above post. Only thing I fell foul of was the double rainstorms, the one I planned to do Sc1500S I only realised had the double rain strips after I'd painted it! I hope 1505 doesn't as I just picked that as I had E1505 already on a transfer sheet!
  16. Oh yes, I think it was 1967 the Southern Region and Eastern and Scottish did a coach swap, the Southern getting mk1s for conversion into units and Bullied SO's going the other way. Off top of my head I can't remember how many but a there were a few. Maybe 20 or so between Eastern and Scottish and some even stayed green i think. Edit, found my notes: The Bulleid SOs transferred away from the Southern Region retained the same numbers but the first letter was changed to suit the region transferred to: 1467/69/70/72/74/86/91/99/505 were S****S and became E****S 1466/71/79/82/84/89/95/98/500/02/04 were S****S and became Sc****S Some of these were repainted into lined Maroon and the new prefixes applied before transfer
  17. I was wondering the same but I'm sure I read somewhere they are expected later now? Iv not heard anything on my pre order. Cheers James
  18. Oh and the red Bullied is up at the layout trundling about in a very mixed rake. I'm glad it runs OK as I had a bit of a fight with the bogies, one of them jobs you need 3 hands for... need to add some curtains too and possible an interior one day
  19. Afternoon all, update from the carriage shops for you. I had a day off yesterday from work and thankfully the lining arrived along with some Sleeping Car branding from Fox so duly set to work before heading out for the afternoon. I was up early this morning so finished off the long lining so letting that go off and I'll do the corners tomorrow. Also some Railtec transfers arrived today for the mk1 sleepers and the PMV, I splashed out on some parcels/newspaper van transfers too so have the blue BG I did last year here to letter up. Aim for this lot is to get the varnish out on Monday and get them up to the layout but iv just remembered I'm awaiting buffers for a few so some will stay back. Next projects lined up and I'll have to dig out the soldering iron... More soon, hope everyone is enjoying the weather! Cheers James
  20. Morning all, bit of a status update on the current batch of coaches: Bulleid SO is pretty much done, bogies are missing nuts and bolts to fix to chassis but I'll drop it in at the layout today so calling this one done. The Nightcap bar swiftly moved on last night, I made up an interior and pretty pleased with it so far, couple of bits to do on the inside and add handrails and door handles and the red stripe but it's coming on nicely. The Gresley sleeper is ready for lining and lettering, I did put a yellow stripe on it only because I wanted to so it's a bit of rule 1 creeping in here. The soon to be Thompson SLBSK has moved onto the paint tidying phase. Still no joy on finding a pic of these things so this model is a bit of guesswork that the sleeper conversion didn't change much, I'll just model the windows with blinds down. The Dia 30 Griddle looks a bit tidier now with blue sole bars and footstep I added a red stripe masking off just above the top of the white lining. Just needs a renumber to E1102 and a but of weathering now. The BSO and 2 sleepers are all prepped ready for lining and numbers, also the mainline RBR is ready for a renumber. Payday tomorrow so I'll treat myself to some transfers. Cheers James
  21. Thanks mate, all good fun but big thanks go to my Dad who does the most of the butchering! Slight update, I have the Bullied SO nearly done, I used an S off some spare model master sheets for engineers stock and gave it a bit of a thin wash of humbrol tan to tone down the white. Looks OK to me after a bit of weathering. Sides sprayed with humbrol satin last night and then glued to the clear sides. Looked OK this morning when I removed the pegs. Bogies now made up too and just being painted and I'll add the door furniture tonight all being well. Cheers James
  22. Ah cheers John, these look to be foxes waterslide straw ones, I think they should be gold but my Dad has been using straw on his maroon stock so saves me ordering more. I'm not too worried just yet as I think he has a few more southern coaches in the works so we may end up ordering an souther sheet, I'll catch up with him tomorrow to compile a list of things to order. Cheers James
  23. Evening all, bit of an update from the carriage works, things are moving on and a couple close to being 'nearly done' The Bulleid is lined but I'm missing an S prefix , just doing the footboards on the chassis tonight and then need to find dome bearings and wheels for the bogies. The sides will be varnished before I glue them to the clear sides and last job will be door furniture all bring well. The Gresley sleeper is painted and ready for lining. Looking at pics of the preserved one I'm going to do it like that, yes I know the model is a shorter one but rule one and all that. The other sleepers and the BSO probs need a couple more coats of blue before masking comes off and the RB & Griddle are tarted up ready for renumbering and other little bits. Also on the go is a Southern Pride nightcap bar built as per instructions, need to do interior and transfers and that's done. Finally I have a Bachmann Thompson BSK made up from a job lot of bodies I got recently which will go into B&G as E1690E to go with my Newton Chambers car carriers when they arrive to make up the York-Inverness motorail rake. Lots to do and lots of lining to order but getting there! Cheers James
  24. Cheers Russ, yeah it does seem a pic was on am old thread but seems locked out now, it's a pretty rare coach so not surprised details are scarce. Iv had my Dad going through railway mags from when they were converted but so far no articles have come to light. Cheers James
